Great bang for the buck

by mikeandmia , Apr 02 '06
Pros: Vacuum load, slim, great picture quality, no pause on layer changes, easy setup,
Cons: No auto select output on audio, must change manually. Mirrored face is a bit tacky
Purchased this dvd player at Best Buy for $150/$115 after rebate, as a stopgap until I get my universal DVD player fixed. I am quite impressed with this unit. First of all it is a vacuum load instead of tray loading. Awesome for those with little ...

I picked this up after exchanging the Samsung HD-850 for this instead. This will be hooked up via HDMI cable (Have to purchase separately) and go with my new Samsung HLR-4264W DLP TV. Well first of in comparing the LG to the Samsung HD-850 I’m much ...

Warning: don't buy LDA-511

by marksman , Feb 01 '06
Pros: Sleek design, good specs on paper
Cons: Poor picture quality in dark areas, unreliable
This Monday I purchased an LC LDA-511 upconverting DVD player and a Sony KV30HS420 widescreen CRT HDTV. I selected this DVD player because of its specs (upconvert to 1080i, component and HDMI out, DIVX playback) and very sleek looks. Best Buy had put a ...

Serious design flaws

by MajorWombat , Mar 14 '06
Pros: Nice appearance. MP3, WMA, Divx, and many other files supported.
Cons: Can't play some DVDs. Upconversion doesn't work with component cables.
When I took the existing DVD player off my system for the kids to have, I replaced it with the LDA511 dvd player. I purchased it for its ability to upconvert from regular DVD resolutions (480i or 480p) all the way up to 720 or 1080i. Some have said ...

LG LDA-511 Defective product? Any one else with this problem?

by bsm2005 , Dec 29 '05
Pros: Picture and sound quality, profile, features, accepts, memory card, multi-format player.
Cons: Skips segments at certain chapters. Slot-loading. No indicator that disc is already in slot.
I bought an LG LDA-511 around mid-Nov 05 from Circuit City. Really liked the picture, features, profile, price, etc. But, started noticing that, while playing some brand-new DVDs, it skips a large segments at certain chapters. Sometimes rewinding and ...

Won't read 2-sided dvds
by milesmeyer ,Feb 21 '06
Pros: HD up-convert, reads memory cards, good picture quality
Cons: won't read 2-sided dvds
I bought this dvd player because of the card readers, HD up-convert and its size. Overall I would say this is a good dvd player except for one very large problem: It does not handle 2-sided dvds! I called LG and asked about this. They said look at page 5 of the manual - it says "this unit plays Memory Card, DivX file, DVD -R, DVD +R, DVD -RW, DVD +RW, SVCD, and CD-R / CD-RW that contains audio titles, MP3, WMA, and/or JPEG files." No where does it say that it will play 2-sided dvds. But if you read it closely it also doesn't say it will read dvd movies. Be warned.

OUTSTANDING
by ever_night ,Oct 14 '06
Pros: Fantastic A/V player. This thing has even played a .dat video file!!!
Cons: The vacuum loading system can be sketchy sometimes.
First of all I would like to disclaim a previous remark stating that this unit will not play two-sided DVDs. Of course it will play two-sided DVDs. It doesn't matter whether or not there is data on one side of a DVD or both. I have many two-sided DVDs, and I have never EVER had a problem getting them to play. I purchased this DVD player back in March of 06 because of the up-conversion and ability to play video files. I have definitely not regretted my decision. The digital audio out makes for a fantastic surround experience if you've got a complimentary sound system. It will send Dolby Digital, DTS, or 2.0 channel audio. I recently purchased the 'Samsung HL-S5087W,' and WOW. The up-conversion is fantastic. This thing has played all types of video files from .avi to .mpg. I even burned a .dat video file to a blank DVD to test the player, and it played it. Reading some of the other reviews I think I may have lucked out with the unit I ended up with, but I personally would buy it all over again.

Great Player
by bobbooker ,Aug 21 '06
Pros: Cool Looking. Easy controls.
Cons: None so far.
How cool is this thing? Despite reviews saying it had problems playing certain discs, I've never encountered anything that didn't work. And, I've got Netflix, so the discs are generally beat up. It looks really sweet in my rack, never had any problems with the loading mechanism, and have found the controls very easy to use. The component video outputs gave a great picture. I upgraded to the HDMI but, strangely, did not see a great improvement. Perhaps the e-bay hdmi cable was not great, or, the other method was as good as my Vizio (Sam's) 50" tv will reproduce. In any case, it looks great, the playback looks great, and, it was cheap. $109 at Worst Buy after rebate (It must be a good product to get me into that hellhole).

One Word is to say Outstanding
by bradleyjack ,Jun 21 '05
Pros: their is a noticable quality increase from 480p to 1080i It reads anything
Cons: copy protected DVD's only play at 480p
Outstanding. I got it for fathers day to add to drive my home theater projector. The features are far better then the samsung dig out player I had. Zoom lets you fill the screen while maintaining the full pix. a little stretched but great for 16x9. The overall quality is as I said

Outstanding

LG LDA 511
by timmy2004 ,Feb 03 '06
Pros: COMPLETELY HD COMPATABLE. IT READS MEMORY CARDS!
Cons: PICTURE COULD BE BETTER BUT I CANT COMPLAIN
BOUGHT AT CIRCUT CITY FOR 119.00 AFTER REBATE . WORKS GOOD . THE PICTURE FOR THE PRICE IS ALSO PRETTY GOOD . THE SOUND IS GREAT. IF YOU ARE RUNNING AN OLDER TV LIKE I AM THIS IS THE UNIT FOR YOU . IT WILL PUT AN HD SIGNAL OUT OF THE COMPONENT OUT. BUT IT ALSO HAS THE NEWER STUFF IF YOU UPGRADE YOUR TV. OK THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS THING IT IS THE ONLY ONE I HAVE FOUND THAT WILL PLAY COPYRIGHT PROTECTED DISC'S IN HD 1080I. ALTHOUGH YOU WILL NEED TO SURF THE INTERNET FOR THE HACKER CODES (EASY TO FIND). YOU SIMPLY JUST USE THE REMOTE TO MAKE A CHANGE OR 2 AND PRESTO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR FREEDOM TO WATCH HD QUALITY ON ANY MOVIE.
