Pros: Not many I can think of. Cons: Depressing, bad story, tedious reading, boring
I received Light On Snow as Christmas gift from my mother. She knew I enjoyed some of the ‘Oprah Picks’ and since the author, Anita Shreve, had written ‘The Pilot’s Wife’ which was one of Oprah’s selections. I didn’t have the heart to tell her ...
Pros: Not much Cons: Bland characters, predictable
I had never read any books by Anita Shreve and when I saw Light on Snow audio book on sale for $ 6.98 at Barnes and Noble, I decided to give it a try. I now know why this book was on sale and if I see any other of her books on clearance, I will ...
Pros: Nothing. Cons: Thin storyline. No life in the characters. Bland dialogue.
If Oprah Winfrey has done nothing else, her bookclub has made many authors extremely rich, simply on account of they being the subject for review. Oprah has a loyal following of millions of viewers, and when she recommends a book, you can be sure many of ...
Pros: A beautiful and touching character study. Cons: none in my eyes
When faced with loss and pain, how does one pick up the pieces and learn to live again? How do we move on when our lives have been torn apart by the unimaginable? These are questions addressed by Anita Shreve in her beautiful novel Light on ...
Pros: a story of loss and redemption, told in an empathetic way Cons: none
For those of you who read Anita Shreve, you know that she is a fascinating writer who brings us many complex characters and situations (like in The Pilot’s Wife). This book is no exception. It’s a book about loss and grief and about the small moves we ...
Pros: Likeable characters Cons: Plot plot plot. So terribly poor.
After some misguided suggestions and great marketing by UK bookstores, I bought this book with promise of a good read. Within the first few pages, it's clear this makes for light reading, and with our character being 12 years old, it's hard not to compare this to junior high school reading. However, egged on by promises of 'secrets revealed' from the back cover, I pressed on.
I've just finished, and was so disappointed I am now filling in my first eopinion review, to hopefully spread the word of this book.
The plot was as simple as the sentence construction. There are no great twists, no stunning revelations, nothing learnt, nothing gained... just a simple read with over sized text and a plot with all the potential in the world, going nowhere. I liked Anita's main characters, I was desperate for them to go somewhere, take me on a journey, but alas, they did not...
There are many great books out there. I'm stunned this was even published.
Pros: Carries a heartfelt impact to its readers, reminding us of importance in family. Cons: This book had such a strong story line and could have used a better ending.
This story has a great story line. Light on snow was a real page turner. Once I started to read I could not put it down. This was a touching story on the struggles that can be between a father and daughter. But when it comes down to it a bond can be reinstated through a sweet baby. Healing can be achieved for every person in a family when one person takes the time to put the needs of another before their own.
