Pros: Eliminates smell, mess and a lot of extra work. Cons: That they don't include the privacy tent and ramp. You make you buy them separately.
Okay, I'll admit it (listen up my dear husband, you will only hear me say this once) getting that third cat was a BAD decision. That was two too many as far as you were concerned and I think I am beginning to agree with you. Who would have...
Pros: the whole "idea" is good, you can save money on litter Cons: noisy, messy, you have to clean up after the maid....
UPDATED: July 5, 2002!!
The maid and I have this love/hate relationship (more on the hate side) that I would like to share with you all and maybe help you out in deciding whether or not you should plan on hiring a maid for your cat....
Pros: Spending so much on kitty should really make him feel loved!! Cons: Talk about hassle! More work for you, less space for kitty.
I am a cat lover extraordinaire, so when my younger brother asked what I REALLY wanted for Christmas I wasted no time bypassing new clothes or perfume . . . I wanted "that electronic cat box thingy". Much to his disgust, John headed for the local...
Pros: If it worked it would be a fantastic idea. Cons: Does not clean itself 10 minutes after use.
We always have a friend to take care of our two cats when we go on vacation. However, our friend will be away at the same time as ourselves. We only plan on 3 days, so out I went and purchased a Litter Maid Advanced Deluxe litter Maid Litter...
Pros: Works OK for solid waste, good for travelers on 2-3 day trips only. Cons: messy, noisy, bulky, lousy for scooping wet clumps.
Have had Litter Maid for 2 years now. Got it because I was frequently traveling for work. Can say it helped for the short trips (3-4 days max) but not so great for longer trips. If you don't manually help the Litter Maid do its job (explained below),...
Pros: excellent once improved/improvised, saved lotsa effort, lifesaver for trips Cons: needed improvising/improving, had to replace infa-red-emitter, occasional auto-cycling, noise
I've had a LM since august of 2000 and I've never bought ANY waste-receptacles ... I just built a 15.75" box lifting the LM high enough so it dumps through a 4x8-slot (cut in the bottom of one of the original waste-receptacles) down into a bucket (that ...
Pros: Eliminates smell, I don't have to touch any "nasties" Cons: none so far
I will start off by telling everyone that I read pretty much every review on this site for the littermaid product. I took in all of the good and bad and decided to still give this a try. I recently got 2 little kittens and the idea of cleaning the litter...
When I first moved in with my husband and his two cats, we had real issues with chore of scooping the litter box. Or, to be more accurate, I had issues with the fact that he didn't scoop enough, and I didn't want to assume full responsibility for...
Pros: Reduces smell, do not have to scoop litter Cons: Noisy and expensive
Before I even bought my new kitten, I had a good idea of what I DIDN'T want to do. I didn't want to have to clean a litter box all the time. I never had my own cat, but observed people with cats, namely my sister and my mother in law. I was always...
Pros: Picks up the stuff and packages it for you Cons: Makes more of a mess than a standard litter box; noisy
OK, I have to admit up front that I bought this as a Christmas present for my wife. I was thinking about this because just yesterday, I wrote a review on the KitchenAid Ultra Power KSM90 Stand Mixer, where I went into great detail about how not...
Pros: Faster, somewhat easier & cleaner Cons: High price, not always reliable
I had never had a pet until last Summer, and as a somewhat busy (and forgetful) person, I worried that I wouldn't always remember to change my cat's litter box. I had heard of Littermaid's automatic litter box, but I was somewhat skeptical about how...
Pros: I don't have to fish around in the litter box! Cons: Clumsy disposal system, noisy, uses a lot of litter, makes its own mess
The concept was phenomenal - the application needs a lot of work, though.
This system is designed with a deep pan, with a "comb-like" apparatus on a bar above the pan. It works on a pressure system whereby it can sense a cat in it and, 15...
Pros: No more raking poo! Cons: Expensive. Mediocre durability and craftsmanship.
I don't know where I'd be today if I didn't have the Advanced Deluxe Litter Maid Litter Box....probably scooping poo. Being a pet sitter, I do enough poop-scooping on a daily basis. So, that last thing I want to do when I come home is scoop more poo. M ...
Pros: No more scooping poop! Litter is always clean. Cons: Daily dumping of the canister. Noisy. Gets stuck sometimes.
Dirty Deeds
Anyone who loves cats knows the dirty job I'm about to describe. Everyday, grab nasty plastic slotted scooper, dig around in nasty clumpable litter, find nasty cat "brownies", scoop into plastic bag, take smelly plastic bag...
Pros: Automatic Scooping.
Cats find it fascinating. Cons: Extremely noisy.
Hard to clean.
Expensive to maintain.
I have several cats and became interested in the Litter Maid when I first saw the infomercials on tv. The price (around $150) scared me off, but the idea of never having to scoop again soon had me rushing to Petsmart to purchase two of these babies....
Pros: Works Great; Minimizes Feline Odor, Keeps My Pregnant Wife Safe Cons: Not cheap and requires the use of premium kitty litter, increasing per usage cost.
Why We Needed Am Automatic Litter Box My wife and I decided to start a family (not counting the "little ones" with four legs) and one important thing a pregnant, or a soon-to-be pregnant, woman should avoid is contact with cat feces which often ...
Pros: None. I'm serious, there isn't even a glimmer of hope. Cons: Very loud, only uses Premium Litter, motor dies easily, creates messes, company doesn't back guarantee.
I cannot say enough horrible things about the LitterMaid, and I wish I had been smart and read this site before purchasing mine. So here's the story...I just bought a new cat--I already have a domestic short hair and just got a Maine Coon kitten who's ...
I admit, I thought this litter box was ridiculous when I first saw the advertisements for it. $140 for a litter box? Come on.. I don't care WHAT this thing does, it can't be worth that. How hard is it to clean out a cat box?
Note: I sent my Litter Maid box back to the manufacturer because the motor was going out on 06/25/2001. Today, UPS delivered me a brand new Litter Maid Box without charge!
After dealing with the gross mess of litter boxes now for about...
When we brought our cats home we just went out and bought a regular cat litter box like I had always used in the past, after a few days I decided we needed something better. Since we do not have air conditioning a regular litter box tends to...
Pros: none that I noticed Cons: messy, noisy and annoying
The Litter Maid Self Cleaning Litter Box is a terrific idea that hasn’t quite gotten there yet. The concept is that a rake combs through the clumping litter after the cat has done its thing and lifts the clumps into a sealed compartment for later...
Pros: Automatically cleans litter, save money on litter Cons: Noisy, expensive, doesn't always clean well or properly, bulky, and messy
I bought the Litter Maid at Target last year for my two cats. I was hoping it would be my answer to constantly having to scoop litter. Unfortunately it wasn't. Here is what I don't like:
For a few years after hearing about Litter Maid, I was mortified about the price of the unit. The idea was compelling: making changing the cat's litter easy and clean. I just couldn't get over the cost of such an item.
Pros: Little to no scooping; fairly priced; easy to get necessary replacements Cons: Noisy; bulky; needs AC outlet nearby to run
Maybe I should qualify my title - "Forget Teaching The Cat To Use The Toilet, If You Have A Teachable Man, This May Be The Product For You!" For the last five years my two cats have shared their home with me and have demanded two litter...
Pros: Makes cleaning up the litter box less time consuming Cons: It is pricey. It is easy to overfill.
We have two cats. My husband hates to clean out the litter box. I don't actually like it, but it comes with the territory. One of our cats is very picky. He likes his litter box cleaned out often. We are not talking once a day, but much more often...
My wife and I have 3 cats, and all of them are well over 20lbs. We were using two litter boxes, and cleaning them every other day. about a year after the machine came out, we decided to give it a try, and bought it at a local Walmart.
Pros: When it works it is a thing of beauty and convenience. Cons: When it doesn't and often it doesn't in our experience, it is a tolerable hell.
Many are the ways the Litter Maid and my wifes cat have made my life a living hell. I blame the cat more than the Litter Maid, but heed this warning and don't say I didn't warn you. When the darn thing works it's great, when it doesn't watch...
Pros: it will do the job Cons: have to change the batteries more often if you have more than one cat
Being the owner of 3 cats, two of which are 16 to 19 pounds each and the other one, well, she's just a tiny little thing. You can imagine I am always trying this and that when it comes to the litter box.
Pros: Keeps kitty happy
Cons: To keep kitty happy, first you have to keep the Maid happy
The very first time I logged on to Epinions was when I was debating whether or not to buy the Littermaid. Honestly, Epinions only left me more confused, because there were SO many different opinions...a lot of "loves" and just as many "hates". I bought...
Pros: Excellent for one cat--makes life easier. Cons: Do I want to hear that thing running when I am trying to eat?
I bought a Litter Maid after watching a TV infomercial. Yes, just 4 easy payments and it was all mine. I would have never imagined myself as someone who would do that sort of thing, skeptic that I am, but there I was, looking them up on the web and...
Pros: Really helps with odors, less litter is used, good for multiple cats Cons: Noisy machine, a big large
Ahh the litterbox. Why would one person give so much thought to a product that is made for poop? Well, I love cats but I hate the litterbox experience. I am one of those people with super sensitive noses and I literally gag when it's time to remove...
Pros: Great for multicat households Cons: I must clean it every 2 weeks
My Litter Maid was a present from my husband. I was trying to get pregnant & knew that I should not be cleaning the litter box. My hubby could clean it at night & before he went to work in the morning - IF he remembered. He would forget &...
Pros: Works great at first Cons: Messier than a regular box, expensive, and doesn't function properly after only 2 months of regular use.
Wow! What a great thing (or so I thought)! I had seen the Litter Maid litter boxes advertised for quite some time, but with a price tag like that, always looked the other way. I finally broke down and bought the Litter Maid Advanced Deluxe litter box...
Pros: Automatic, short-term benefits Cons: Scary, messy in the long run
It seemed like such a promising idea. Your cat poops, you don't have to scoop it. A cat lover's dream come true. Well, you know what they say about things that seem too good to be true...
We brought it home, (this was at my parents' house when...
Pros: Ingenious mechanical design eliminates 80% of litter-cleaning hassle. Cons: You'll still need your scoop, litter supplies and a strong stomach.
For those of us with indoor cats, automatic catbox cleaning is, perhaps, the most pressing technological imperative of the 21st century. That's the way it feels when you're on your hands and knees at 6:00am, wielding a plastic rake in a crumbly field of...
Pros: Overall, a more cleaner solution. Easy to dispose of copious amounts of Kitty Mud Cons: Expensive, motor is a bit loud, Stank Tanks are a bit flimsy.
Pardon my french, but I have one serious lardass of a cat. He's over 20 lbs, and eats 2 to 3 cups of food a day. He resembles an ottoman more than a house pet. Now, I know what you're thinking, and I don't care. Don't ask me to put him on a diet. I like...
When I first saw the commercials for Litter Maid I, like many other people, said, "Wow! What a great idea!" As we all know, cleaning the litter box can be a pain and finding something to ease that burden is nice. So, after giving the Litter Maid a...
Pros: Relatively low maintenance. Automatic. Cons: MCI is fragile. Battery consumption is huge (use the power supply).
It would appear that our young cat (1 year old) drinks and eats for at least 10 - or so the Litter Maid would indicate. He (Tomo) can completely fill up our Litter Maid in 3 days - which seems like a lot for one cat.
Pros: Ease-Less Smell-Health Multiple Cats Cons: Initial Price-Noise-Takes up more floor space
I believe that the Litter Maid is quite possibly one of the best contraptions that I have bought. Ever sense I had first seen them on infomercials, I wanted one. I waited though, with good reason, for the price to come down, and the versions to improve....
Why I bought it: I found the Litter Maid Litter Box on sale for $99 and decided to go ahead and buy it (I had previously refused to pay $190 for it). I bought it mostly because of my love of gadgets and partially for the convenience it offered....
Pros: Good at scooping solid litter - but cats don't only do that part! Cons: Liquids would cling to the prongs and clog them, causing plowing effect
I purchased the original version, which broke after a few months of use. While we were using it, the mechanism that rakes the litter was frequently clogged and turned into a 'snow shovel' moving all of the unused litter with the used litter, into the...
My cat is 15 years old and I wasn't sure if she would like this new product, but being that I was having surgery on a foot and would be in a wheelchair for a few months, I decided that this litter box was a must have. My best friend bought it for me...
Pros: I was able to return it Cons: Loud motor, litter everywhere
I hate cleaning the litter box. Doesn't everyone? So when I saw the advertisements for Litter Maid, I of course got very excited and sent away for it immediately. A self-cleaning litter box? It seemed so perfect. Or so I thought. Expensive, sure,...
Pros: A bit less hassle that conventional boxes when it comes to cleaning and emptying Cons: not worth what it costs, rake hangs up frequently, containers split and spill when changing them
I had wanted one of the Litter Maid boxes from the very first time I seen the commercial advertisement on television. At the time I was pregnant and wasn't supposed to be changing the litter box anyway, so this appeared to be the perfect solution....
Pros: Save cleaning time, cats get clean litter box Cons: Containers breaks easily and are expensive
Our cats are using their second Litter Maid. We bought the first one right after it was available on the market. At that time we only have one short hair cat. She took to it immediately without any problems. After two years, the cover of the compartment...
Pros: NONE WHATSOEVER! Cons: Hard to clean, smells, malfunctions, noisy
If you've seen the TV commercial, you've seen that the littermaid is a catbox with a motion sensor rake that brushes the poop into a receptacle a few minutes after kitty has done his business. What the commercial doesn't tell you is that the rake...
Pros: saves time & cat litter, reduces smell Cons: some scooping is still required, gets stuck, mine's broken already
As I have two wonderful cats in my small apartment, keeping the litter box fresh is a constant struggle. When I was given a Litter Maid litter box as a gift, I thought I had found the solution. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
Pros: Great idea, when it works, cuts odors Cons: Price, had 2 of them jam and break
As the indentured servant of three full time neutered cats, it behooves me to provide them with a privy somewhat more enticing than the facilities unoffered by the southwest corner of my formal dining room. We've been through the proclivities of a fellow...
Pros: sanitary Cons: as much work as regular boxes
I was given the Litter Maid Self cleaning litter box with my cats. I thought that it was a wonderful idea at first. But after having it for a few days, I am thinking about going back to the normal "do-it-yourself" style.
Pros: none i can think of Cons: expensive; unable to scoop litter alone, much less waste; loud and scary
Yes, I am on the cutting edge of cat litter technology. I bought the LitterMaid--more accurately, requested it as a Christmas gift--when it was just out on the market, in 1998. At that time, it cost about $190, but I had big dreams of never scooping...
Pros: MAGNIFICENT FOR LAZY PEOPLE Cons: TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE
First, I will start off with some bad news. I had a TERRIBLE experience with Windmere Corporation's customer service level (the makers of the Litter Maid product.) Here is what happened:
Pros: good idea Cons: cheap, shoddy, snotty customer service reps.
When I moved in here a year ago, Tracy had one of these monstrosities sitting in the basement. His cat, Garfield, insisted on using it, despite the fact that it was not working. Okay, I can deal with that.
Pros: When it works for you, you won't let it go Cons: Loud, expensive, won't work for all cats
I am one of those horrible cat-mommies who would let the litter box sit for days and days on end, because that's how much I hate scooping. My poor boy got a very bad UTI due to my negligence. My veterinarian gave me a lecture and a recommendation:...
Pros: saves some time , if you scoop out litter box every day Cons: expensive, noisy, hard to use,It takes up a lot of room, and it still smells
When I first saw this litter box I thought it was the answer to my prayers. I hate scooping out the litter box. And my husband hates the smell of the litter box.
But I am a cat lover, so I have endured this nasty job for practically my...
Pros: The Littermaid,The best machine made for our cat's today Cons: not having one
Great product. I saw an advertisement on TV of the Littermaid and thinking how nice it would be to not have to clean the litter box after my cats had done there we's and do's.
I have a 13 year old female cat name Misty and she is a clean...
Pros: New quieter motor, improved tray design. Cons: Still need gloves for tricky tray removal.
Oh the Pain! The Pain of changing the cat litter. In my house this had become a full-scale battle. Exactly "how" long can the members of the family "pretend" that they don't notice how full the cat box is getting?
Pros: convenient, time-saving, odor controlling Cons: expensive, impractical for some cats or multiple cats
This does sound too good to be true, doesn't it? It works, but only under certain conditions. I got this product this past winter on special at Costco. At the time there were three cats in the house and I'd just had a baby and didn't have time to be...
Pros: cats DO like a clean litterbox, and this does clean up 10 minutes after they've "gone" Cons: Poor power, very noisy, messy and expensive
I had one of these. No, actually I still have it, but it is in a garbage bag taking up space on my balcony. Why is it decorating my little porch? Well, its not the cats fault. All three of my cats used it. Only one would run like a hyperactive child on...
Pros: Less scooping, less smell, less mess Cons: Somewhat noisy
I've had my Litter Maid for about 6 months now and am quite pleased with it. I have tried other litter systems (disposable liners, sifting pans, etc...) but this one is the best for our needs. The Litter Maid is an automatic self cleaning litter box....
Pros: Zen Like design in the cat litter Cons: Noise, Cost, Maintenance
My Husband & I had pondered buying the Litter Maid from the first day we saw the infomercial. The infomercial sounded as if it was so easy to maintain this litter box. What caught me was the idea of not having to smell the litter in our apartment. My...
Pros: Easy to clean Cons: Has to be in plain sight
I have always had female cats before, and they all used a regular litter box, sometimes just a cardboard box full of common dirt, without ever producing any bad odors.
Ten years ago, I got my wonderful Siamese kitten straight from her...
Pros: Cats like it Cons: Still smelly, picky about litter used
Wow was I excited about the prospect of a litter box that cleaned itself. Finally I decided to invest in one well over a year ago. This machine was so poorly designed that it had a flap with attachments that screwed over it that would send the litter...
Pros: Make your cat more maintenance free Cons: 8-D cell batteries if you dont put it by a power plug
Any cat owner will tell you the worst part of having a cat is cleaning out the "kitty" litter-box. Who wants to deal with scooping out poop and pee everyday? Not me, not my wife...nobody!
Pros: efficient, fun to watch cats get used to it! Cons: won't stand up to MASS quantities of wet "clumps"
I bought a Litter Maid Automatic Litter box as a treat for my two cats and myself one Xmas. I must say that the enjoyment I got out THEIR reaction to it in the first two weeks MORE than paid for the box! Both were scared at first, but Cammie, my 5-year...
Pros: good for swatting practice Cons: smell, dirty, doesn't work sometimes
My fiancee and I bought the Litter Maid self cleaning litter box because we have three very "normal" cats. The whole idea of a self cleaning box sounded good, but we were in for a surprise.
Gadget lover that I am, I had my eye on this for a year before I broke down and shelled out the bucks to buy one. I am the 'mom' of 4 cats. Finicky cats at that. I live in an apartment in the city so the cats have to live inside. I love my cats...
Pros: Convenient Cons: Very loud, inconsistant cleaning mechanism, no back-up by makers, doesn't work for long.
I have two cats in my household one male (who doesn't really care) and one female (who definitely DOES care). Needless to say, our old litter box was always a pain to maintain. I saw LitterMaid advertised on TV, and thought that may be perfect for us...
Pros: Strong but quiet motor, paw cleaning cat ramp, abundant consumables included, battery AND AC operation Cons: Price, removing the mess container is, well, messy, cats initially shy away from the box( not for long though)
Let me start off by saying that ours is a multiple cat household. 5 to be exact. To be fair to the low end model of the LitterMaid, I would suggest that it is for a household with perhaps 2 cats...no more. I have personally thrown away in disgust two low...
We bought this when I was pregnant and I couldn't change the cat litter. My husband got this because he was tired of changing the litter every day.
This works great! We have two cats and as long as you take care of it there are no problems. We only...
Pros: ??? Cons: hard to clean, doesn't dispose of used litter well
We have several cats and were so excited with the LitterMaid idea that we ordered two. What a disaster! I guess if your cat will just get in the box, squat & go, and leave a neat little wet clump on the top of the litter, it would be great. But our...
Pros: When it works, it saves you time Cons: Hard to clean. Not worth the money for a two or more cat household
My husband and I chose this product because I was getting tired of cleaning out the litter box daily. We thought this would be a great way to reduce some work.
We bought ours for about $100 at Sam's Club. All the pieces are plastic. It runs...
Pros: no smell, easy to clean, and has adapter Cons: some litter escapes to floor
My husband purchased the LitterMaid at wal-mart. We had discussed that when the price went down that we would get one. We were shopping for groceries and he just so happened to see it for 69.00.. He knew then it was going in the buggy. <g> ...
Pros: Makes litterbox easier to maintain Cons: A little noisy
OK, first of all, I am a guy and I am somewhat lazy and somewhat slobbish, so my critique on this thing - which has facilitated my laziness - is not going to be as harsh as a someone really picky and demanding. So that's that.
Pros: Works for some cats, litter box is always (fairly) clean Cons: Won't work with some cats, very noisy, scares some cats, gets stuck, just as smelly.
I have two cats, and one of them has kidney troubles, so he pees A LOT. I decided to get the Litter Maid because it had become hard to keep the regular boxes clean, and one of my cats will pee on the carpet if there isn't a clean litter box.
Pros: It's better than not having one. When everything involved is perfect, it's a good product. Cons: As labor intensive, if not more, than the boxes they are meant to replace.
The existing self-cleaning boxes are noisy, resulting in a list of problems created by said noise. The most notable affect of said noise is on the cats in which the box is for. This makes it difficult to accustom the cat to the box, often resulting in day ...
Pros: Great Idea, Nice looking Cons: Does Not Work. Flips litter, feces, urine clumps out of the box. Requires daily cleaning.
We were excited about the prospect of a care-free litterbox. The Littermaid works as it is supposed to about 2 times out of 5. The other three times requires significant user intervention to either unclog the litter rake or dislodge urine clumps stuck to...
Pros: This litter box is absolutely wonderful- very few complaints!! Cons: Occasionally I have to clean the rake because "stuff" gets stuck in it.
I adopted my first cat this past fall from the local humane society and in less than 3 weeks I was absolutely fed up with changing the litter twice a day. My cat has an obviously VERY overactive bladder and fills up a litter box in a very short amount of...
Pros: Nice Idea Cons: Doesn't work long. Poor customer support.
I thought I was lucky when I found the litter maid on sale for $130.00. Got it home and set it up and all seemed well. Although it requires a lot of extra cleaning on the floor around it I felt it was worth it not to have to scoop the litter box every...
Pros: keeps the litter box much cleaner than manual box Cons: my biggest complaint is the size of the waste receptacles
We have two elderly cats - one large, diabetic one, and one who is smaller, but has a thyroid problem. The relevance of this is that both cats pee a LOT. They insist on using the same litter box, and only one litter box, regardless of how many are ...
Pros: It rakes the litter box clean, saves litter. Cons: Noisy, scared the cat.
The Litter Maid litter box is an idea that is so good that you just know something must be wrong with it. And there is. It scares the crap out of one of my cats. What kills me is how well it really works. just pour in the clumping litter and the...
Pros: convenience Cons: lack of durability/frequency of replacement necessary
OK, let me start out by saying I am on my third one of these. The story began back in May 1997, when I bought my new condo with off-white carpeting and did NOT want litter box "issues". Within a week of moving in, I sprung for the only...
Pros: It scoops poop Cons: There are too many to count
Ok, when we first got this thing, I thought it was great! I was pregnant at the time and thought it would be great for my husband to use (he hates cleaning the litter box). So for the first week or so, it was great. Then it started stinking like female...
Pros: can't think of any Cons: doesn't shut off, loud, hard to clean, breaks down easily
When I saw Litter Maid on sale, I grabbed it right away but believe me, this product is a waste of money even with a 40% discount. I have 3 very active cats who seem to think the litter boxes are the best thing in life, and set out to prove it every day....
Pros: Nice while it's working Cons: didn't last under the strain of 5 cats
I bought a Litter Maid Advanced Deluxe Litter Maid Litter Box This thing lasted three months before the engine blew out. Sure, my five feline fecal-matter factories could probably test the torque limits of my Husqvarna Chainsaw, but, in my...
Pros: Saves on litter and on accidents and keeps the dog away from the mess! Cons: It's expensive to start up
Every loving kitty family has at least one princess who bestows her regal presence upon us lowly humans and refuses to allow her royal toes into a litter box that is not the picture of cleanliness. My princess kitty was taking her dainty airs to the...
Pros: scoops the litter when you can't, keeps odor down Cons: noisy
I am a single mother with an adventurous 2 year old, and I could not bring myself to part with my kitty. But the litter was getting out of hand! My daughter thought it was a sandbox and would ever so sweetly scoop the feces out on to the floor all the...
Pros: Scoops litter after every use, easily disposable container Cons: Noisy, sometimes messy, not good for multiple cats
The Littermaid is an excellent idea. Who among us has not dreamed of having someone else scoop the cat box? But the technology needed to be better perfected before this product was brought to market and it does not seem to be improving as more "amazing"...
Pros: no more scooping Cons: the rake becomes clogged
The Litter Maid has saved my life! I live in a house of three male cats. I work over 60 hours a week and the litter box was becoming a crises in our home. Cleaning twice a day and still coming home to little and sometimes big piles of surprises...
Pros: It does work unless you have more than one cat and don't over fill it. Cons: Expensive, noisy, messy unless you have only 1 cat, still have to clean after.
The litter maid is a clever Idea but still needs some improvements. I chose this product because my husband and I hate changing a smelly cat liter box and thought this would be a great product to try. If you are a 2 or more cat owner than the liter maid...
Pros: Portable, Cleans itself, Waste trays make disposal a snap Cons: Tread mat a waste of money, still some leakage
I bought this product for 2 very important (to me at least) reasons:
1) I hate cleaning litter boxes! Almost as much as I hate the stench of a full litter box.
2) I am very absentminded - especially when it comes to tasks I...
Pros: cleans litter box automatically Cons: kind of noisy
Let me start out by saying that I am a cat lover; not a cat poop lover!! We have two cats right now, but at one time we've had up to four and that makes for a lot of cat pee and poop.
When I originally saw the litter box advertised, I thought...
I chose the litter maid self cleaning litter box for one reason only. Basically, I work odd hours, but I demand a clean litterbox. When I saw the littermaid self cleaning litter box on one of those notorious late night infomercials, I thought my prayers...
Pros: Neat Idea, Good concept Cons: More work, NOT self-cleaning, Kitty has to be perfect
I hate this catbox! It only made my problems worse. I feel that I was ripped off when I purchased this catbox and recently sold it in a garage sale for $5!
The number one problem with this catbox is size. The litter area just isn't big enough,...
Pros: Great for multiple cat homes Cons: A little noisy if you have a skittish cat.
I chose to get a Litter Maid Deluxe litter box because I have three cats.
I was tired of constantly cleaning the box. This box was very nearly a dream come true. Two of my cats use it exclusively, the third will use it sporadically, he doesn't like...
Pros: No scooping, ease of setup and use Cons: Hard to gauge right amount, sealed parts, poorly constructed
I've had one of these litter boxes for about two years and really liked it, until it broke. Then I realized just how cheaply and poorly made this thing is.
My cats took to it right away and used it without any complaints, even in our new...
Pros: Sounds like a good idea. Cons: Lousy implementation of a good idea.
Litter Maid - forget it!
I too was seduced by the idea of a litter box that would relieve me of the daily scooping duties. I really, really should have come to this site first. I’ve read opinions from folks who spent up to 150.00 on their...
Pros: Great Idea Cons: Messy, expensive and doesn't work at all like the ads promise.
Ever since I first saw an infomercial for the Litter Maid, I really really wanted one. I have two cats and simply detest cleaning the litter box. But back then it was $300 and I couldn't justify spending that much money just because I didn't...
Pros: Cats love it! Makes clean-up a cinch Cons: none
I bought my LitterMaid self-cleaning litterbox last year at Wal-Mart for only $89.96. I did a lot of research on them and got the best price. I have 2 cats and I was tired of cleaning the litter box every day.
I bought the litter maid because scooping litter was my least favorite thing to do every day. The price is pretty high, but I definitely think its worth it. I have 2 cats and only have to empty the receptacle every 2 days and it never smells! It is...
Pros: Less odor, less work, keeps the dogs from eating the stuff Cons: cost, occasionally gets hung up with heavy load
Owning five cats can mean a lot of litter box cleaning and I was looking for a solution to doing this twice a day or more. In addition, I have a puppy who enjoys going into the box and digesting whatever she finds there. So I bit the bullet and spent the...
Pros: Sometimes keeps box clean Cons: Frequently doesn't operate, hard to remove container, expensive
I recieved this on Monday for Christmas. I took it back today- Friday. It's a great idea for a product. The cat does it's thing. Ten Minutes later a rake makes it's way across the pan leaving it level and free of material! Unfortunately, it only...
Pros: Less time devoted to regular cleanings Cons: Long learning curve, can make a mess
I have been using a Litter Maid for about six months now, and will say that I like it, but I am waiting for someone to improve it. I find that I have to empty the tray twice a week with two cats, which is not too bad. The key to using this machine is...
Pros: convinient, fairly efficient. Cons: choice of litter important, disposing of used containers can be a little disgusting.
I have to agree first with what some of the reviewers had to say about Windmere (the manufacturers). Their customer service is REALLY bad. I bought mine from ebay and had prompt hassle free delivery. Then i tried to buy the receptacles on-line at the...
Pros: still waiting to experience the pros Cons: misses lots of clumps, messy, expensive
I bought a mega sized box with the little tent for about $180 about 2 months ago. Have two cats. Since I had relied somewhat on epinions in buying this, I felt I should share my experience with this product for others to use. My bottom line is: this...
Pros: decreased smell in the house - easy Cons: Needs cleaning every so often
It seemed the kitty litter box was always dirty, the house always smelled.
We ordered the litter maid on line from litter maid and what a difference!
I was worried about the machine noise or movement freaking out the cats. Thankfully, our...
Pros: Clean and efficient! Cons: Pricey, motor can be a bit noisy
This is one of the best products I have ever bought!
(Watch the sale circulars - Target had it for $89, Sears has it for $99)
I am a busy young woman and spend as little time as practicable doing mundane chores, like cooking and cleaning. And...
Pros: Don't have to clean it everyday Cons: Gets jammed, can be very messy, noisy
When I found out I was pregnant, I decided it was time to get something that didn't need to be cleaned everyday because I knew my husband wouldn't be able to do that. I looked into the litter maid and was impressed with the possibilities. I just wish...
Pros: Maybe for households with only one cat, great for people who like stink. Cons: very noisy, always clogs, smells, not suited for multiple cats
I always hated the chore of scooping out the litter box. I have three cats and that is a lot of scooping! I saw the commercial for the Litter Maid and thought what a great invention!
I was so wrong. My cats were so afraid of this thing that...
We have two cats. I used to clean the litter box. My wife ordered the litter maid.(1)It still needs to be cleaned. I've tried several types of cat litter and found that they all stick to the bottom of the tray. (2)The disposal tray is flimsy and hard to...
Pros: Clean litter box, Much less smell Cons: Did not last long, motor not sealed good enough
I bought the Litter Maid litter box for my two cats. It is a very good idea, however, some re-designing is necessary. The cat would urinate near to motor area. The motor area should not get wet. After trying to clean the urine off my rake would...
Pros: No scooping with a trowel Cons: Add litter again and again and again, empty collection box, sweep floor, trip over power cord
With 6 cats, daily scooping of the four "giant-sized with hoods" litter boxes was becoming too much of a chore. Having seen the info-mercials and read the box, I thought this would be an answer to a prayer. Just empty or replace the plastic...
Let me start out by saying that I love cats. But the one thing I hate doing is cleaning the litter box. So naturally when our family got the self scooping litter box I was delighted. Unfortunately my days in paradise were short lived. With three cats...
Pros: Does the job. Cons: A bit noisy, still fairly messy, and smaller than I thought it would be.
Having 4 cats has left us in a bit of a quandry about what to do to help keep litterboxes clean and such. We thought this would be the perfect solution, and it works as advertised, but the still "spread the wealth" when it comes to keeping the...
Pros: cats like it, less cleaning Cons: disposable trays could be less flimsy, rest easier to clean
I considered the Litter Maid for a long time. I have 3 cats and one is very very finicky about his litter box being clean. Unlike other cats I have had that will go next to the box or in a bathtub, this cat will go on clean baskets of clothes or on the...
I bought the litter maid because I work long hours a lot and rarely have the time or the energy to clean a litter box. I have 4 cats so I had to scoop and clean a lot. With the litter maid, I don't have to worry about my cats getting angry with me...
Pros: less work on the cat owner's part Cons: loud, hard to get sparkling clean, much more expensive than a litter pan
Although there are problems with the litter maid it is much better than scooping litter yourself everyday. We have two large cats and the litter maid does an adequate job of cleaning up after them. We paid about $90 for the litter maid at Target. ...
Pros: Easy to use, no smells, my cats love it Cons: Can't think of one
I think this product is GREAT! I originally chose it because I found I didn't have time to empty the "regular" litter boxes often enough(I used TWO, one for each cat, because they would not use the same litter box) ...now I use it because I...
Pros: None. :( Cons: Would not automatically start, wouldn't rake the litter, kitties were scared of it.
The LitterMaid is such a nice concept. A litter box that actually cleaned itself after kitties dirtied it. I was thrilled when they came on sale, I had been drooling over them since I first seen the TV commercials. After years of trying product after...
Pros: self cleaning litter box in one to two cat household Cons: Cat may not use it
The litter maid works wonderfuly as the machine that it is. It does self clean and do everything as claimed. However, I was extremely happy with it until about the second week of use when my cat started pooping on the floor and refused to go near it....
Pros: Eliminates most smell and hassle Cons: Expensive and sensitive
I have lived with cats for more than half of my life. Either my mom's or my own. When I lived with mom, she cleaned the litter box. I had no idea just how nasty it was when I moved out, got married and got a cat of my own.
Pros: always clean, eliminates odors, easy to clean Cons: noisy motor
I have three cats in my household. The house is fairly small and the litterbox has always been a problem despite daily cleanings. I had tried every brand of clumping litter I could find and still could not achieve a fairly clean and odorless litterbox....
I am the mom of 2 cats. I thought when I saw this litter box it would be wonderful, but now it seems it's more trouble than it is worth. I do like not having to constantly scoop litter, but when it comes time to clean the box... It's a PAIN!!! I'm not...
Pros: Does decent job of box cleaning Cons: Breaks too easily
I've owned two of these. The first one lasted 13 months before breaking. I bought another one because it did do a decent job of keeping the box clean The second one lasted less than 6 months before stalling in the middle of a scoop cycle - and I could...
Pros: When it works, it saves time cleaning up after the cats. Cons: When it doesn't work, it ends up being a VERY EXPENSIVE plastic tray.
When I bought my litter maid, I had one cat and thought it was an okay product, it saved me time in everyday cleanup. However,it needed more maintenance because it would have to be scrubbed and all the little in's and out's had to be cleaned out (the...
Pros: cleans litter nicely, easy to use Cons: A bit loud
I was skeptical about buying this, but soon changed my mind when I witnessed how effectively it worked. After the waste is raked into a hidden compartment, the remaining litter is then raked back, flattened and even. I am very impressed. My two cats...
Pros: clean, hands free, litter changing. Cons: high price tag.
Hmm, lets see, i bought one of these about a year ago from a local pet shop near my house. Its price tag is rather high, but for what it does, it is quite well worth it. I Have 3 cats, their names being, stanley, einstein, and julio. Each time one of...
Pros: Clean litter for each use Cons: Can get messy if not cleaned regularly
I am now on my second Litter Maid and can't imagine being without one! I have 4 cats and 2 boxes -- the Litter Maid and a traditional hooded box. I would switch to just Litter Maid if one cat didn't prefer the other box.
Pros: Less odor, easy disposal, uses less litter. Cons: The maid is pricey as well as the disposable containers. The motion sensor does not work.
I love cats,I hate litter boxes.I was thrilled when I saw the litter maid,it had to be the answer to my litter box fear.I have one cat who is a neat freak and would poop on the floor before she used a dirty litter box,the litter maid solved that!
...
What a big mistake! Litter Maid is a joke. The stupid thing doesn't even work! I had to turn the litter box off because every time it would try to rake the litter, the rake didn't have the strength to make it to the little drop off place at the end!...
Pros: It is automatic, Good idea Cons: You still have to pick up after the maid, cost to much money
I was really happy about going out and buying the Litter-maid. Wow the thought of having a litter box that cleans itself, how wonderful. Well, when I got the litter maid home I took it out of the box and I was not pleased with the size. I only have...
Pros: Clean box & less smell. Cons: Sometimes messy & loud.
I actually got my litter maid from a friend who's cat was afraid of the noise it made. My cat was just tiny when we got it, so he got use to it with no problem. The only problem we've ever had is with litter getting onto the floor after the rake goes...
Pros: cleans it's self Cons: eventually the holding box needs emptying
Well Where should I start. Oh at the beginning. Well It seemed my Cat Osiris whom I adore has a problem with the cleanliness of his litter box. At the slightest hint of it being even remotely dirty he decides he would rather go on the clothes in the...
When I first saw this on T.v. I thought "wow" what a great idea. So needless to say I bought one. When i got it it was so easy to setup and I figuered being the cat person I am it was a good investment. It was great when I only had one cat...
Pros: Does what it says it does Cons: noisey, not as powerful as it should be
Two years ago I divroced and found myself on my own for the first time in my life. And let me tell you it was scary - at age 35! Having dogs all my life I thought that a pet would help fill the void. But my lifestyle would not be fair to a dog....
The litter Maid is a great invention for a house with 2 cats but any more than that and you risk losing your mind with changing the plastic throw away things.
This is a good product for the lazy college student that doesn't want to swift threw...
The idea of a self cleaning cat box is ok but this thing stinks!
Here is a list of what is wrong with it:
We used the litters reccomended BY Littermaid.
Poo sticks to the rakes. Gets really gross too.
Poo sticking to rake makes it...
Mine quit working after 6 months. It was a gift so I can't complain about how much I spent. It is stuck in the comb (or rake) dumping spot above the waste box. Tried all sorts of different litter but I had a lot of trouble with it sticking (yes I...
Pros: Never been a mess in the house since. Cons: Expensive trays and sometimes seems noisy.
I chose the LM litter box for my wife and I to relax in the evening and not have to interrupt our quiet evenings to put the cat out at relaxing and even intimate times. The Litter Maid has definitely changed our lives as far as worrying about our kitty...
I chose this product because I thought it would be easier. It is a hassle to have to clean under and around the box. Regular boxes I did not have this problem. To make matters worse, the rake mechanism comes off the track on one side therefore causing...
Pros: Don't have to remember to clean the box Cons: Sometimes you have to clean the box yourself
The price has come down a LOT ($89 at Target) so I decided to try this out. I love it! Now I can leave the litter box in the basement and pretty much forget about it. The noise was a little disconcerting at first, but I'm pretty much used to it now...
Pros: it cleans itself Cons: the few areas that collect litter
In our family, we love the self cleaning litter box. We choose this product because we have 3 cats and were unable to keep up with the normal litter box. All we have to do is pull out the container a couple of times a week or more and empty it into the...
Pros: Automatic, covered waste receptacle, no daily "Treasure hunts" Cons: Noisy, lack of a decent cover
Having two cats, I believe buying the littermaid was a good decision.
Right off the bat, however, I wasn't about to pay just over a dollar per plastic waste container once or twice a week in addition to buying premium litter. At first I...
Pros: Keeps litter area clean (80%) Cons: Overflows all over the floor!
I have been using the Littermaid for a couple of years and have had mixed results:
It does keep the litter area cleaner than I used to with a manual litter box.
Once the waste area fills up though, it will not stop scooping! This causes a huge mess and more work in the end than manually scooping. They need to have a sensor that tells the thing to stop raking once the cover does not go on. I am afraid to leave it on while going on a vacation because I never know what I'll find upon returning.
I heard of a product by litterworks.com that claims to provide a large waste system for littermaid, might give it a try. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Litter Maid needs update by rickrickrick ,Feb 13 '06
Pros: Good idea in principle. Handled two cats with no trouble. Cons: Needs more design work: rushed into production.
Got this for a Christmas gift and right away I had to make a shield to keep urine and poop off the mechanism. No problem with cats or auto-cleaning, but the transformer quit and then the motor stopped after 14 months. No light, no sound, no customer support worth mentioning. This is Chinese revenge.
most expensive cat product ever bought! by tissue_head ,Jun 28 '05
Pros: no scooping, no odor, or touching the golden prize Cons: very loud, gets stuck, and messy
i may only be a kid, but i know my ways around the house. At first i thought it was a great idea... a litter box that can clean by itself. Every cat owner's dream come true.
But I was fairly disappointed in the product. The plastic was not durable. The "sweeper comb" gets stuck if theres litter on the track or behind the teeth when it returns from its poopie-scoopie trip. The biggest problem is that the motor was as loud as a lawn mower. It scared the cats away, making them do their business in the dining room. (Yummm...) before, people clean up after kitty. Now Litter Maid clean up after kitty, and people clean up after Litter Maid. Never send a machine to do a human's job.
But on the other hand, at least theres no more scooping. It traps all the "gold" along with its odor in a plastic receptable.
This was a great idea. But the company did a lousy job on making it. There are lots of room for improvements.
disappointed - glutton for punishment by spkspk ,Sep 21 '08
Pros: When it works, it does a fairly good job at keeping the box clean. Cons: It is expensive. It is not appropriate for multi-cat families.
We are a multi-cat family. I have gotten other Litter Maids (they all died, eventually) and graduated to this one. It also died, eventually. I do not think it is meant to keep up with the volume of multiple cats. Also, the design here has been diminished. The slope towards the bins to receive the clumped litter is too shallow, so the litter might tip into the bin or fall back into the 'clean' litter. I am using mine as a regular (non-electric) litter box, but will graduate to a more traditional litter box. The Litter Maids are too expensive to have them die so soon.
2009 Littermaid LM900 Disappointing by cou51207 ,Apr 03 '09
Pros: It's better than hand scooping litter. Cons: Has to be supervised. Can't leave it unattended. Not automatic as advertised.
I just recieved my new LM900 Litter Box last night. I opened the box and pulled it out. It was already basically assembled. I poured a very small amount of litter, under the lines. I plugged it in and switched it on. The rake made ONE sweep, and froze up. The motor stayed on, with a shirl hum. I turned it off, unpluged, re-plugged it back in several times. Every time the motor hummed but the rake did not move. Customer service told me where the Reset button was. The cats haven't even had a chance to use it yet, and it's already freezing up. The motor could have burned out if no one had been there to see the malfunction. I will not leave this unattended. I will flip the switch when I want it to rake the litter. That sort of defeats the idea of "automatic".
