Pros: Easy to use, needs no computer to hook up, works out of the box! Cons: Can wash out in the sun, may lose the satellite signal!
The world of consumer electronics seems to move like the speed of light! I remember seeing a great cartoon of a customer standing in an electronics store having just purchased a brand new Model 5X unit. While he is standing there, a delivery man comes in ...
Pros: Simplified UI. Bright touchscreen. Decent voice instruction. Cons: Outdated maps & POI DB, Custom POI support, No partial name search.
I recieved one of these Magellan 760's for Christmas 2005 and have had almost a couple months to use it, so I thought I'd lend a review. This is the second GPS unit that I've owned, the other that I have is a handheld Garmin GPSMAP 76S. The ...
Pros: Decent UI, good road data for US, OK for Europe. Cons: Slow processor, device "hangs".
By way of background, I'm an analyst in the Location industry that includes GPS units like this. I've personally owned about 9 now for the purposes of truly evaluating them in real life use. I have reviewed a few of the here at epinions, and am ...
Pros: Accurate and reliable. Voice feature makes it hands free. Advance warnings on turns are timely. Cons: Some database inaccuracy, Finding food or hotel by ICON not easy or friendly.
We purchased to Magellan 760 Christmas of 2005 because we are retiring and taking trips. Fumbling with and reading maps on the road especially when we need fast directions or redirections was not something we wanted to do on road trips in unfamiliar ...
Pros: Size Cons: Quality, Customer Service, Windshield Mount. Everything else about it is poor
My experience with this product has been more and more frustrating each time I plug it in. Not often will I be so upset with a product that I regret ever buying it! This one takes the prize!! Why did I buy it - Well I did like the clarity on the ...
Pros: Unit was small and none intrusive. Technically, unit had the capabilities for unlimited upgrades Cons: Poor Customer Service
Poor product line, its reliability/durability is very low
Clueless professional staff.
Purchased a unit and within two months it was rebooting on its own every 3-5 minutes. Sent the unit in for repair and this is where my opinion of this company hit rock bottom. Right now I am a pretty peeved customer. I purchased a Magellan 360 in ...

Pros: worked for a while Cons: Terrible cradle/power design. Even worse support and customer service
I bought mine in August of 2005. While it occasionally freaked out on me it always ended up working. That was until one day when I went to power up and it kept dying. Long story short, the cradle power connection design is flawed and delicate. The thin ...
Pros: Uncluttered streets and they're named for easy city driving
Cons: Can't download commercial maps. Will they keep theirs current? Expensive. Little highway map detail.
The 760 seems to be set up for city driving, not highway driving. It works great showing the road to travel from point A to B in city driving. Roads are uncluttered, named, and easy to follow. The Map Mode (normal driving mode for highway trips) ...
Pros: I can't think of any pros after going through all I did with tech support. Cons: Tech support in India. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!
I was just trying to upgrade my unit software and after calling tech support in India and doing what they told me they ended up crashing my computer so it would not even boot up, then they told me that it was a computer hardware problem and they couldn't ...
Pros: Easy to use interface Cons: Stopped functioning after 6 months
Terrible customer support
I puchased a roadmate 760 which, after six months, suddenly stopped being able to locate the satellites...i.e., freezes in a given location. I looked on line and could not find a 800 customer support number. Even worse, to email tech support you have to sign in with the 15 digit serial number...an unnecessary pain. Subsequently I never heard back. Buy a garmin
Best Buy: "It locked up on you, didn't it?" by freecell ,Aug 09 '07
Pros: Worked well for the first 8 months. Cons: Legendary for locking up on you.
We went back for more punishment after our Magellan RoadMate 700 burned up within the first year, and bought a 760 model (this time with insurance!!)
The 760 worked fine for about 8 months, then started locking up in the middle of a trip. Sometimes you could reset it OK, but most often it just hung there like a painting.
We took it back to Best Buy, and without even saying what the problem was, they said, "Oh, a Magellan. It locked up on you, didn't it?". Yeah, these things have such a known reputation that we couldn't even get it replaced - the store REFUSES TO SELL THEM ANYMORE. We ended up with a free Garmin, which has worked out failure-free.
Pros: It is easy to use when it is working. Cons: The unit can't satellites.
The windshield attachment pops off frequently.
After owning this one for over a year, I can definitely say that I made a huge mistake buying this unit.
I bought it when I was moving from Connecticut to Florida. It worked great until I reached North Carolina when it lost track of the satellites. It stayed in this "Lost in Space" mode until I reached Florida.
After being in Florida for a month, the windshield attachment broke off and dropped the GPS into my lap while I was driving. As bad as that was, dealing with customer service was worse. It took them over a month to send me another attachment.
Now it has lost the satellites for good, I think. I was driving from Tampa to Cape Kennedy when the GPS lost the satellites in Orlando two weeks ago. Since then, it has only managed to update itself once or twice and even then stay online briefly before getting Lost in Space.
I am tired of this. I just want a simple device that tells me where i am and where to go. That this device was designed in France does not endear it to me, either.
Fatal Flaw is the Universal Power Cradle by blahblah10708 ,Sep 25 '07
Pros: When it worked, which has been sporadic at best, it was good. Cons: The fatal flaw is the universal power cradle
Good screen, good directions.
But, I am now on my second power cradle. I got it after spending about two hours on the phone and arguing until they agreed to send me one. You cannot buy one off of their web site. They are out of stock. My attempts to locate one on other web sites produced the same result- out of stock.
The problem is the pin the power cord plugs into is teeny tiny and it breaks. The result is the unit will power up, you go over a bump and it shuts off.
The power cord is curled so it is constantly pulling on the teeny tiny pin. That is what helps to make it break.
Customer service is offshore, and very difficult to understand.
I cannot recommend Magellan as their design flaw should not be my problem.
Poor Customer Service Roadmate 760 by dapman1 ,Feb 13 '07
Pros: Works out of the box. Very accurate. Cons: Terrible customer service. Difficult to update maps.
Unit quit acquiring satellites after my warranty expired. Customer service is terrible! It took two months of phone calls and emails to get an answer from Magellan. One tech support request was never answered. Another was answered with helpful steps to reinitialize the unit, but this failed. In the support answer, Magellan stated that if this does not work ask for authorization to return unit. I asked. No answer. Sent another tech request explaining I needed a return authorization. I got back the same document stating to reinitialize my unit. I called tech support. I could not understand the broken English spoken by tech support. I was transferred to another tech. He said his supervisor would call me back with the return information. He never called back. Call again today (again could barely understand the person's English) and was told Magellan no longer fixes the Roadmate 760, but would give me a $149 credit toward a model 2000. I did not want a higher priced model. He said could not get credit toward a comparable model. I hung up and went to a store and bought a different brand.
