Barbie says, "Giving birth is glamorous!"

by ned1 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Dec 11 '02
Pros: you get a doll and a baby and hours of laughs
Cons: everything - stupid concept and just a dumb idea
Barbie's been a Nascar Driver, train hostess and McDonald's Drive Thru Worker - why shouldn't she aim higher and become a pregnant teen bride and mother of two? Well at least on the upside, Midge is married. With it's newest release, Happy Family...

Whoa Baby, Barbie isn't the Pregnant one! Mattel Happy Family Midge and Baby

by Lisa_J Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Dec 30 '02
Pros: Unique Concept, Baby is Cute, Includes Accessories
Cons: Unrealistic birth process.
Whoa Mattel! You certainly put yourself in the spotlight. The curious portion of me wonders if Mattel had any clue as to the controversy that would arise via the introduction of Mattel Happy Family Midge and Baby. Regardless of all the hoopla,...

Mattel Happy Family Midge and Baby

by michelle7898 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Sep 10 '04
Pros: Great for preparing for new baby. Cute and priced well.
Cons: None
Although the Mattel Happy Family Midge and Baby set is set for ages 3 and over, I purchased it as a gift for my two year old. It cost me only 16.99 at Walmart department store. I chose to make the purchase mostly because it was a great way to show her ...

Love the new Happy Family!

by jadiegirl , Dec 03 '02
Pros: Great addition to the Barbie family. Fun for children to play with.
Cons: Not very realistic when she gives birth! But thats also a good thing too! :)
Just the other day I came across the Happy Family Midge and Alan and Ryan. Midge is the first ever pregnant barbie that I have actually seen. My 5 year old niece absolutley loves her! I just recently had a baby and so for her the Barbie reminds her of...

Not such a bad doll

by coocoobaby , Jul 30 '04
Pros: Well thought out in detail without getting gross
Cons: Doll does look 16
My daughter has been asking for this doll since it first came out. I was always against the idea of a pregnant Barbie, so she went and asked her Grandparents on her father's side for it. Go figure! :) Midge and Baby comes with everything you see in ...

Barbie Does The Maternity Ward

by amberhappygurl , Feb 22 '04
Pros: Cute, teaches (some) kids about how babies are made
Cons: Husband not included, Wal-Mart finds it inappropriate
Barbie's gone to college (whatever college would accept her, I have no idea), grew her locks and became Rapunzel, all she needs to do is get knocked up and she's done the world. But wait, it's not Barbie that's pregnant, it's her good buddy Midge. ...

Neat idea!

by nicolereuben , Feb 13 '03
Pros: looks like mommy great for pretending
Cons: Small pieces Apparently only white dolls
I am shameless. As soon as I brought this doll home from the store I opened it-- and proceeded to play with it for a good thirty minutes. Much to the delight of my fiance` who will forever hold it over my head that I gave my daughter a "used" Barbie...

Midge and Baby is a hit with our girls!

by thebeachbums , Oct 04 '03
Pros: It's a cute gift for a child whose mom is expecting
Cons: The accessories are tiny and gets lost easily
We had seen the advertising on T.V. My children wanted it immediately. We lucked out because when I was shopping in the Goodwill Store, new "Target" merchandise area, I found the Happy Family Midge and Baby Doll. It seemed a steal for $6.99, it was sti ...

Love this Barbie

by Joanne710 , Nov 24 '04
Pros: nice quality Barbie and baby, fun to play with.
Cons: crib is not to sturdy.
I bought this Barbie on ebay, paid a arm and a leg for her, because we all heard that she was going to be discontinued right away. I put her on my daughters shelf and she begged me to play with her, and I kept telling her no that someday this one would ...

Happy with Happy Family

by snowwhite70112 , Jan 11 '03
Pros: The only US made pregnant doll and a great conversation piece!
Cons: ummmmmmmmm... OK I've got one ~ the controversy!
Ok I know there are some really good reviews written on this doll already. I thought I could offer a totally differant view. I'm a doll collector, I have no daughter & all my dolls stay imprisoned in their "glass cages". I do have three children & for...

Pregnant Midge

by bethiebry , Jan 02 '04
Pros: Educational, the real deal, fun to play with
Cons: Might give wrong message to girls to go out and get pregnant
I had mixed feelings on this doll, thought it was great as an educational piece and yet wasn't sure what message I would be sending my daughter. I got it for my daughter's second birthday, a bit young but thought she would grow into playing with this ...

Bottom Line

by mom4u2002 , Nov 03 '03
Pros: Perfect addition to the Barbie Family.
Cons: Hard to find in the stores right now.
This is a perfect addition to the Barbie Family. I am a pregnant mom and my daughter is eight and has been asking many questions. Now that we have the Midge doll she just loves it and it's made it easier for her to understand what to expect when her...

Pregnant Barbie? YES and its a GREAT Doll!!
by serenity8501 ,Dec 20 '05
Pros: Realistic, comes with tiny baby, cute idea!
Cons: none
When I saw this doll I just knew I HAD to get it for my little sister, I had just found out that my husband and I were expecting and it was a great way for me to let my sister in on my secret....she was going to be an Aunt! She was sooo excited and she play and acted as if I were the barbie and I needed to "push" the baby out. She enjoys playing with her barbie and I think that this is an amazing doll and I am glad that Mattel is making Barbie's that are true to life....a Pregnant Mommy. I would recommend this doll to any little girl and I do not think that it would send any type of "wrong" message. I think that it gives the parents an amazing opportunity to speak to their children about baby's and mommy's, even prepare them for a sibling as well! A+++

Best Barbie EVER!
by graceisbeauty ,May 30 '08
Pros: Educational, wonderful doll.
Cons: It does come with a baby bottle, but I threw it in the trash.
Finally, a Barbie that is worth something.

I bought this doll before it was pulled from the shelves because it was controversial. I bought it for 10 dollars. I thought it was a beautiful Barbie.

I have a daughter, and I love teaching her natural mothering, and how to be nurturing.

This Barbie doesn't do any harm. It is a fascinating doll that can "give birth" to a baby. It helps you explain to your toddler what is happening to Mommy with the new baby on the way. It satisfies a little girls longing to nurture and take care of a baby.

I am shocked that out of all of the whorish looking Barbies, hardly wearing any clothes in the toy store, that this one offended people.

I would much rather my impressionable daughter play with a married, pregnant doll, that one looking like a 25 cent stripper.

This doll embraces a beauty about women unfortunately our society rejects...

Giving birth did make me feel glamorous, it was the most beautiful, empowering moment of my life. I want my daughter to respect that aspect of being a woman, and be comfortable with it.
