Menards Big Card Interest scam!
by domino8 ,Jun 25 '08
Pros: None really, rebate checks aren't any better that regular credit card rebate programs. Cons: Interest charges, payments are not applied to the proper credit plan.
Menards credit cards are an interest rip-off. We have a Menards Big Card, and we had a Best Buy credit card. Retail Services is the company that handles the credit on those cards. If you have a same as cash purchase and a regular purchase, and the same as cash plan is not due for awhile, extra payments are supposed to go to the regular purchase plan. Most of the time it doesn't. It states on the bill that the payment will go to the plan that is due first, but they constantly reverse payment so they can make the interest off regular accounts. Here is an example. $126.46 same as cash due ($8.34 minimum due, expires 1-9-09). $166.07 regular purchase due ($1.66 minimum due). I paid $175.00 for the regular purchase plus same as cash minimum due. Payment was made as $83.34 for same as cash, and $91.66 on regular purchase. This was done purposely to make interest off of the account. Try to understand anyone in customer service! They can't speak English very well at all! We will be closing this account also. They are crooks!

No problems with this card - good customer service
by supercoolcraig ,Aug 25 '09
Pros: Easy to apply, benefits at other locations, 2% rebates, Same as cash offers(deferred 6mo) Cons: 21+% APR if you dont practice smart financing and spending.
I got the card for 2 reasons: (1) - They dont take AM/EX and (2) they offerred 6 mo same as cash on purchases totalling $299 or more.
facts from my experience (about 3 mo's owning card) returns are credited immediately and their HSBC based customer service (Angela) were very helpful in correcting an errant promotion on a relatively expensive purchase (saving me alot of headaches).
the $10 store credit rewards are useful, Ive amassed several already in just a few months.
Id give 'em a 9 outta 10 so far.....
