Let me preface this by saying I purchased a set of Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires for one car, and just put another set on another car. I am that happy! I replace tires when I no longer feel safe, not when the tread is gone. The tires ...
This was the year I went from 0 to massive debt in a matter of months. I finished building a wonderful home in the mountains of Western North Carolina, had to replace the worst van ever built, The Ford Losstar (a.k.a. Windstar) with a wonderful 2001 ...
Pros: * Fairly good handling * Better fuel mileage * Good traction in wet Cons:
* Long break-in period * Stiffer ride than OEM Bridgestones * Somewhat noisy
For those who have read my original review, please note I have had to update it based on a few weeks of further driving. Long story short, I evidently have finally hit the break-in period for these tires. Their handling characteristics have changed ...
My girlfriend has a pristine 2002 Mercury Cougar that she bought new. This summer it reached 36K miles and the awful Firestone tires that Ford decided to put on it were in bad shape (maybe why Ford stock is stuck at 8 bucks a share? ... Tread ...
Pros: Quiet, less jarring ride. Cons: so far so good
One month on VW Passat (at 155K miles we've been though plenty of tires), and We love them. Ride is soft, yet nimble enough - but not sporty. Very quite. Better than the MX4's or Turanza's so far.
Got 70,000+ miles out of these by scippy88 ,Oct 09 '07
Pros: Dependable tire. Delivers what it promises. Cons: Cost? No cons really.
While there is no way I can go into all the detail another poster did I did want to say I managed to get over 70,000 miles out of these tires. I did all of that driving in almost exactly two years and 95% of that was on the freeway.
I just replaced them today because I was told at 5/32" and 6/32" I "should really consider" new tires. The only reason I did not replace them with the exact same tire is due to their high price and the fact that I do not plan on hanging onto my 2000 Accord (with 215K miles) for more than a year or so.
Incidentally, I chose a mid price, Dominator by Cooper, which received mixed reviews here. If I start experiencing some of the balancing problems or unusal noises I may head back to America's Tire for a quick upgrade. Some of the other reviewers mentioned near death experiences! I can be cheap but for an additional $140 I would rather have some piece of mind.
If I end up sticking with the Dominators I will try to remember to write an additional review to compare the two tires.
Surprised and pleasantly satisfied by soupison78 ,Jan 27 '06
Pros: Excellent ride quality, great dry handling/braking(even when pushing it hard at higher speeds), wet traction-superb! Cons: none at this point
I work for a tire retailer and can get my hands on basically anything available on the market. When it came time to replace my tires on my tired but running vehilce used to commute about 300 miles a week, I new I wanted something with good comfort, dry handling and wet traction. I chose the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S to test out this time around. The day I drove home after installing them, I was very excited with how well they absorb the bumps and cushion the ride, especially on 101 in the bay area of northern California. I tend to drive pretty hard sometimes and I feel very confident with the dry handling ability of these tires! Even for an H speed-rated tire(I'm used to ultra-high performance on another vehilce), I can put my faith in the Michelin Man with this model tire. The only "disclaimer" I would mention is that each car is different and with that, every driver is different...these Michelins are great for me.
