Pros: Easy setup, advanced features easy to access, strong signal Cons: Blue lights flicker like mad and don't seem to mean anything
I bought the NetGear RangeMax for my boyfriend for use in his two story townhome. The router itself lives on the second floor and we wanted to have our Wii and a second computer downstairs connected to the Internet wirelessly. Setup ...
Pros: Relatively inexpensive right now and outstanding performance Cons: This technology is becoming outdated being replaced by "N" technology
This router provide exceptional range when compared with older older non-MIMO (Multi-In, Multi-Out) 802.11 G router. So far so good, under heavy file transfer the router didn't exhibit a tendency to reboot. I bought this router to replace my older one ...
Pros: The Extended Range and Fast Access and the Price compared to others Cons: Ease of setup!!!
I got this from hhgregg. They matched the price that Circuit City had on their website. The instructions said 20 minutes to setup. The truth is that I spent an hour on the phone with my DSL Tech Support to insure that my modem & PC were working ...
Pros: dependability and range Cons: blue light flashes a lot
We have had this router running pretty much non stop since early December 2006. We have three desktop PCs connected to its LAN ports and anywhere from 1 to 3 laptops running off of it depending on how many of our semi adult kids are home. It was a ...
Excellent device that was easy to setup with my Charter Pipeline connection. Was replacing a D-Link Router I previously was using since it died on me. AT the time I had a basic wireless G router and when I replaced it I felt it was time for me to get the ...
Pros: Excellent signal, range, internal antennas Cons: Slightly more then I would normally pay
I have been using wireless G routers since they first came out and this is one of the best I have used for range and strength. It is able to hit my entire house with an excellent signal without a problem. I set one up in m frat house as well and it is ...
Nice router, refurbs sell for a really good price. by mrgeorgef ,Apr 10 '09
Pros: Excellent range. Well designed stand improves air flow and cooling. Cons: None really. Not open source.
I bought this as a refurb for $20 including shipping to replace an older router. Set up was no problem as I just gave it the old routers settings. Silly blue disco lights can be turned off with a switch on the back. I go weeks before I feel the need to reset/reboot it(unplug the power and let it restart). It does reach further than the router it replaced.
A really well done feature is the snap on legs which allow the router to stand vertically about a half inch off the surface it rests on. Letting the router stand in the air like that allows air circulation which keeps the router cool. I really noticed it was cooler than the router it replaced.
If you are looking for a router and see a deal on a refurb buy it.
Pros: Looks nice and does have security feature. Cons: Does not last long. Set up is not easy.
Purchased this router to add a wireless laptop to the Internet. Taking the stuff out of the box, the instructions were difficult to follow even for someone like me who has some computer background. Many people better call the "geek squad" to set it up for them. One thing, you have to connect to the Internet to do the set up. But how can you connect if you do not have the router set up already. I have a PC and used it to set up the router then had to switch it to the laptop.
Registration was not easy and I never finished it. Thought I was done but I guess I did not answer all the questions or something.
Setting security was somewhat tricky, a reason why so many people do not.
After a couple of months of operation, it quit on me. Trying to reach tech support became a problem because I had not registered it.
This is my second Netgear wireless router, the first one was not strong enough, so after a year, I bought the 824 model. The issue with the 824: router worked great for about five months, then mysteriously every three days or so the router seems to simply stop and continues to reset itself every couple of days (I have Time Warner Cable during this entire time). When I plug directly into the Cable modem bypassing the router, no problems. When speaking with the fine IT team in India for Netgear (which I needed to do for both Netgear models I have), good luck is all I can say to anyone that has to go this route. They are next to impossible to understand, diagnosis the problem, and then play the blame game as it can never be their product that is not working correctly. So if you can get this to work, it may be fine, but good luck if you ever need to call support or loose your connection. Seems each year you need to buy a new one is the trend.
Pros: Easy setup, worked the first time, online setup. Cons: None, the blue flashing lights on top could prove annoying.
I picked up this router at BJ's for $79 with an instant $10 rebate at the register. I was going to buy a Linksys-N router for $99 but compared boxes and went with the bargain and higher speed claims on the boxes. Took it home to replace a hub connected to a cable modem, the box claim was a thirty minute install. The claim was pretty close; they even took into consideration the massive tangle of wires that I had to deal with. Drop in the CD and follow the steps and it worked. Tried the wireless connection on a laptop and also worked well. Changes to configuration are made via an online setup.
