Nh Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky

Pros: The location couldn't be any better, right on Dam Square.
Cons: The hotel is huge.  Some hotel sections are in desperate need of renovations. Too expensive!

Pros: Location, building, food, service, comfort, etc. etc. etc.
Cons: Check-in / out a little slow, but a minor quibble.

Having stayed in many Amsterdam hotels over many years, I had come to the conclusion that they were all clean, comfortable, and welcoming, but ultimately rather average, dull and unexciting. The Krasnapolsky changed all that. It provides a balanced mixture of traditional opulent elegance and modern comfort and convenience, combined with a quality of service second to none. Breakfast in the Winter Garden is a treat not to be missed - excellent food and wonderful surroundings. The restaurant for dinner is amazing - heaven for foodies like my partner and me - with excellent traditional haute-cuisine dishes cooked to perfection. Location? On Dam Square - right opposite the Royal Palace, on the tram routes and a few minutes walk from Centraal Station - perfect!
