Digital Breakthrough

by kevcarrico , Jan 22 '03
Pros: Incredible imagery and features for the price.
Cons: Non-interchangeable lens, zoom control is nice, but not professionally smooth.
As a professional cinematographer/cameraman for the last 19 years, I've extensively shot every film and video format from 16mm and 35mm to BetaCam and High-Definition 24p. I could not believe how well the footage I shot with the Panasonic AG-DVX100...

Pinnacle

by x2mag68 , Dec 08 '04
Pros: Color quality. Resolution, "ease" of use, FULL control of everything.
Cons: optimal quality 16:9 requires a $800 anamorphic adapter.
This camera is simply a technologic master piece. It offers the best resolution and some of the most beautiful images ive ever seen come from a digital video source under $10,000. However what makes this camera special is its 24P capability. other ...

Flip a Switch, Make a Movie - Indeed.

by jun123 , Dec 27 '03
Pros: 24p,30p & 60i shooting modes, Markable Focus and Zoom, Excellent Picture Control
Cons: Not native 16:9 CCD, No Interchangable Lenses
Panasonic's latest effort in the Prosumer MiniDV camcorder range is the AG-DVX100 (soon to be replaced by the upgraded DVX100A), is nothing short of a milestone for low to zero budget filmmakers. While many cameras boast the same features, the DVX100 ...

The Indy Workhorse...

by skapa , Jan 16 '07
Pros: Focus/Zoom controls via remote, 24P frame rate(Movie Like), Beefy construction, Cost, Many 3rd party upgrades
Cons: Not HD, no removable/upgradable lenses, only a few frame rates,
The Panasonic DVX100 has been the workhorse of many video productions for almost 5 years now. With it's innovative 24P Cinema like qualities and it's ability to look and sound just like a multi-million dollar movie, this camera is what video producers ...

Panasonic DVX100 - not to shabby!

by migman , May 10 '03
Pros: Nice filmic picture! Let me say it again, nice picture!
Cons: Very loose focus ring. High artifacting! 10X zoom?
This is a very good indie cam or B roll cam. You get that cinema gamma look right out of the box so that should save you some bucks and rendering time using those cinelook plugins. That alone should make you want this camera.

Under low light,...

This is a great camera. The 25p mode is extremely useful for professionals.
by big-thinking ,Jan 26 '07
Pros: Both 25p and 50i mode available. Easy standalone and multicamera use. Affordable pricing.
Cons: No variable framerate for slowmotion stuff like AG-HVX200.
I use two of these cameras in my company www.040-itv.nl for all TV and DVD productions. Using both 50i and 25p depending on the desired effect. Motion, resolution and brightness differ depending on the selected mode. I also use the wide angle conversion lens on one camera. So I can get even closer to the object. Compared to most consumer models this camera hardly displays any noise artifacts. Even during low lux shooting. The automatic presets look great, but everything can also be manually adjusted and saved for easy access. I like the multi-camera features. They make it easy for one person to operate two cameras. The pricing is simply amazing.

Professional Results
by magicdavek ,Apr 09 '05
Pros: Outstanding picture quality and audio and controls
Cons: Too costly for hobbyists (but cheap for professionals!).
This camera was just used (March, 2005) to shoot Conquest of America on the History Channel. It is used now on several cable network shows and TV commercials. It can shoot like traditional video, or set to look like it was shot on film. I bought it for professional reasons but find I'm using it for my home videos as well!

Panasonic DVX100
by mastha ,Feb 10 '05
Pros: Lens, viewfinder, XLR inputs, White-balance, Film-look, 24P, filters, Focus
Cons: Auto-focus/sometimes the manual focus is not switchable. (Could be a menu thing)
This is the best hand held camera in the world
When you compare the color saturation with any other DV 1/3 3CCD camera in this price class this camera does the best. Even if the low light situation is not the best of all, it still is perfect enough.
I filmed with this camera behind the scenes using film light, and the picture quality matches the 35mm in color saturation and highlights.
It's amazing I almost have to look back at my hand what I am holding there.
This baby completely has me sold.
Indoor and outdoor fast white-balance change, makes the whole picture so real. I have the camera now for almost 1 1/2 year, but I cannot live without it.
I used it for television reportages as well and then it's even hard to forget the nice filters. ;o) For documentaries and short films its great and for commercials its even good enough, and better then most higher priced professional cameras.

Pros: Excellent and vivid picture; 24p modes works great; versatile audio and video controls.
Cons: Move frequent head cleaning thsn anticipated.
After using the XL-1 for over 3 years, I haven't picked it up since my purchase of the Panasonic AG-DVX100A. I always thought that the swing out lcd cameras were not professional format usage, but since discovered that I have endless creative angles and flexibility of shots. The controls are great and very useful for high end industrials for that film look. I use it a great deal for creating promos for church announcements and events. The bulk of my usage is for short form productions. I will be putting it to its test when I shoot my first feature in 24p this Spring. I've had a minor problem with the head needing cleaning more frequently than I'd expected, but for now it's fine. I'm glad I made the purchase.

by jk456_dt3000 ,Feb 01 '03
A very versatile camera! I've used both this and the vx2000/pd150. While the cameras are very comparable (Sony performs better in low light and Panasonic has more controls)in 60i, when you go to progressive, panasonic just turns into a whole new camera. I would say it is two cameras in one! Try it for yourself!
