Pros: Low price. Reliable. Serviceable sound Cons: No matter what, it's still a 15 watt amp.
It's hard to write a review on a product like this. It's sort of like a steak knife. Maybe once in a lifetime, you'll use a steak knife and say, "Wow! What is this thing?" The rest of the time, it's just there. Does exactly what you want. For ...
Pros: Small, inexpensive, sounds good at a low volume, reliable Cons: sounds bad at higher volumes
I've had a Peavy Rage practice amp combo for about seven years now, and it has come in very handy as a practice amp - something to plug into for a little "lite" jamming at home. That's basically what this amp was intended for - practice.
Pros: It's cheap, it works, its always ready to take a bashing, i love it!! Cons: It's just not what i need anymore, big money time has come
Like so many other people, when i started playing the guitar i did not really know what 'real tone' was. I started out with this little peavey, and an old squier strat. I'm quite proud in my own little way of some of the tones i managed to get out of the ...
Pros: Good for practice, can get loud. Cons: Distortion sounds bad at low volumes.
Features:
Clean channel, Distortion channel, high, mid, low sounds knobs, it's nice looking and very well constructed, hard to break. Not too heavy too. Headphone jack, very useful for when everyone is sleeping, although I hate using these as they...
Pros: Great for beginners, jamming at home Cons: Sounds bad with cheap or vintage guitars
This was the first amp I ever purchased. I got it for Christmas with my Peavey Predator guitar. I've had it for about 2 years now, and it is still goin good. Mine looks a little different than the picture on Epinions. You can check it out at this URL:...
Pros: Light, Durable, Great Clean/Distortion at LOW volume. Cons: Crappy at high volume, modern/vintage switch useless for beginners.
For a small amp, this is a good buy. It's what I use at home and even at small school gigs. Peavey makes great amps. This little bugger sports a black mesh speaker screen, and a control board with the following controls and features-
Pros: Clean channel has a very full sound. Distortion channel provides a basic foundation for price Cons: Hard to get a good color mix at lower volumes.
I am sure that you have heard that an inexpensive guitar can thwart a young students attempts at learning to play guitar. It's my opinion that these same set of circumstances don't apply to this little Peavey. I purchased it for under $100 so it was...
Pros: Good sound, small, affordable Cons: None for the price
Okay. Let's clear something up. All of the other reviewers for this product rate it as a practice amp which is true, but for their ratings, they compare it to nice amps. That, my friends is misleading. This amp is fine for what it is for - a...
Pros: Small, good quality, reverb, stylish Cons: The distortion setting is terrible, sounds awful at high volumes, squeals at high volumes
Well I recently bought this amp because I needed a bigger and better one to practice guitar on. I previously had a Marshall small practice amp and I didn't like it. The first thing I noticed about the Peavey was that it had a MUCH better sound quality...
Pros: Great amp for the ready to rock beginners, price Cons: Clean doesn't have very good sound
I have the rage 158 for about 4 months now. It is very easy to carry around for practices and jam sessions. When amp is turned to high volumes, the amp doesn't sound as good. The clean channel isnt very good. If the low knob is turned up too...
Pros: Portable, headphone jack Cons: Sound is sterile, distortion is horrible
I've had this practice amp for about 3 years now and if I have to say something positive about it, it's that it's been reliable. I've carried this to so many different people's houses and in cars and airplanes and buses and it still doesn't have a...
Pros: Very light, very affordable Cons: sound distorts in high vol. dist. channel sounds awful.
This is the first amp i have ever purchased. I bought it for 80 bucks brand new. I still use it today but i am planning to buy a "Line 6" spider amp. It served me well for the first 4 months. I used it with an Epiphone special 2(which sounded horrible...
With this amp i used an Ibanez guitar and they worked ok together. This amp has a clean and distoted channel. It has a pre and post lead knob tuners for the distortion. One guitar input, one CD/Tape input, and a headphone jack. This amp is pretty...
Pros: Lightweight, great volume, good overdrive. Cons: none
The Peavey Rage 158 (15 watts with an 8 inch speaker) is an awesome practice amplifier for any genre of music (metal, blues, country, rock). I find the overdrive on the amp is not very heavy, so I recommend a good distortion pedal for much heavier sounds.
Pros: Withstood all manner of abuse. Cons: Sounds different when cranked to high volume.
I am not interested in sounding like Zeppelin or getting a "great tone." If anything, I would prefer my guitar to sound like Big Black and this little amp can give you just that. (Set the pre-amp to 5 and turn the mid-range all the way up) It has also proved plenty loud enough for playing smaller shows with bands which use drum machines instead of live drums.
The real selling point of this amp for me is that it has been through all manner of audio abuse and I absolutely could not kill it. Perfect for a noise band on a budget. I have even plugged a patch cord direct from the output into the input, resulting in a sound that could be heard a few blocks away. Several times! The amp still works!
The only downside is that once you get things to sound how you like at home, if you go to play a show and turn the amp all the way up, it will sound different. Instead run a line out into the PA or just mike the thing and you'll be in good shape. I lost mine and bought another one!
