I'm Free To Do What I Want

by overandout , May 26 '01
Pros: the blue face meant I didn't need to spend $20 more on a face plate
Cons: I wish the battery lasted longer; rural living doesn't allow for clarity
I used to hate cell phones. They were too intrusive, too obnoxious, and too expensive. At that time, I wouldn't be caught dead even thinking of buying one.

Then I started driving back and forth alone from Ames, IA, where I attend school,...

by ensignjonathan , Jun 16 '01
Pros: Good styling changeable faceplates AWESOME battery life keyguard
Cons: Reception not that great voice quality sometimes fuzzy no WAP (wireless internet) could be smaller
When I was first shopping for cell phones, I wanted to avoid a nokia at all cost. I didn't want to be the average Joe, I wanted to be different. So much for that. My motorola v2267 from clearnet (more on a different review) was a bust, so I decided,...

Ah the many faces of the Nokia 5165

by Jacqlin82 , Feb 19 '02
Pros: Easy to change faceplates, easy to use
Cons: Please don't drop it! It breaks easily.
I do love this phone, however, for someone as clumsy as me, it would be wise to invest in another brand. I say this because I have dropped many Nokias and ruined them all. However, when my Motorola was dropped into a lake and left there for several...

Name that tune!

by TiredMomof2 , Mar 01 '01
Pros: numerous generic accessories available, tones available for download from the web
Cons: Somewhat difficult to navigate,
When my cheapy cell phone died, I didn't know what to do for a phone. It wasn't time to renew a contract so I couldn't get a discount, and most of the phones that were really cool, I couldn't afford. (Yes, I am a gadget type of person. The more...

Nokia should have stuck to making running shoes.

by jethrohoyt , Aug 28 '02
Pros: No-nonsense solid little phone.
Cons: Bad battery fit. Auto-turn off on incoming calls. Battery gauge useless.
Let me first of all start out by saying that mobile phones do nothing for me. Yes they are useful, but the ability to change faceplates or download ringtones is no longer a thing of great significance. It is perhaps for this reason that I have owned or...

Nokia 5165, is it for you?

by cmullins , May 28 '01
Pros: nice shape, used by many people, caller ID, custom face plates
Cons: Bad Reception, a little heavier than other cell phones
If you are looking for a cell phone for personal use, and to use to talk to friends and family while away from home, this cell phone will suit you. Although it doesn't have the service of connecting you to the internet and if it does costs a lot extra...

by ChromeKiller Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Mar 28 '01
Pros: Long battery life, voice mail, caller ID, games, and a very easy to use menu.
Cons: It's bigger than the small cell phones today.
I used to be an owner of a small cell phone. The phone was alright for me, but since it was my first, I now see the world in a whole new perspective! With my second cellular phone, there's so many more options to use, and the phone overall is such a time...

by Nlion79 , Apr 09 '01
Pros: Relatively small, reliable.
Cons: Power button.
I recently upgraded to the Nokia 5165 phone. Actually, I bought two of them, one for myself and one for my daughter. I'm very pleased thus far; the phone is easy to use, its features are fairly intuitive, and it's smaller size is just what I was...

by allenn22 , Jan 19 '01
Pros: clarity, ease of use, cool "kinda" new look
Cons: small buttons, no belt clip
After finally being told that we need to get a cell phone for the 1000th time, we finally did it.

The phone is actually quite large compared to some of the other phones that Nokia makes, which was a possible problem that I had until I...

Pros: Trimode (Analog/Digital/PCS), easy to use, perfect for high school/college students

I am a senior in high school, and will soon be a college student. I already use my Nokia 5165 quite a bit, and I imagine I'll be using it more when I get into college. My older brother, who is in college, has the same model phone, and he enjoys it very...

Not bad for a buck!

by driead , Oct 20 '01
Pros: Interchangeable face plates, Accessories everywhere, quality, durable.
Cons: reception
My first cell phone was an old NEC that my wife and I got back in 1993. At the time it was the best thing out. It had an 8 hours of standby time and 30 minutes of talk time. It could double as a weapon with enough velocity. In 1997 when my wife was...
