Pros: Does help acne, decent product, can get it through the mail Cons: Too expensive, can be very drying to sensitive skin
I am in my late 20's and still break out like a teenager, so I decided that I needed to give Proactive a try. The stuff helped..some, but also caused some dry patches on my face. I wouldn't have minded using the products on a permanent basis had I gotten...

Pros: Effective the first few weeks, convenient home delivery Cons: Pimples returned in full force with continued use of product
I am 24 years old and have suffered from moderate acne since the age of 12. I have tried a large variety of over-the-counter acne medications as well as several prescriptions from my dermatologist but nothing completely cleared up my skin. After...

Pros: i got what i expected Cons: ultimately, a cheap, metiocre product is going to yeild cheap metiocre results.
when you buy proactive solution, you are getting exactly what you should expect, a low grade, poor quality product that despite what some people may think, is actually NOT expensive at all. skin care is a major industry with the highest, essentially ...

Love it, Love it , Love it!
by chadsboy69 ,Feb 09 '04
Pros: Clear Skin Cons: none
This is by far the best face wash I have ever used. Proactiv is my holy grail for skin care. It is so gentle and the little microbeads help cleanse and exfoliate your skin cell, I shave before a shower and I get no irritation what so ever. A++++++++

I've Tried A Lot Of Treatments...Then I Tried Proactive
by angelost ,Jun 26 '05
Pros: It seems to be working. Cons: The price and can be a bit abrasive especially when your face starts to peel.
I've been battling acne, blackheads and whiteheads since I was a teen. Now, I'm in my 30's and I still have breakouts from time to time. If you're in your teens it's understandable if you have breakouts, but when you're my age you start to think there may be something seriously wrong with you.
I've tried different products and even went to a dermatologist for treatments. None worked.
Then I decided to buy the Proactive System, I've only been using it for a month and I've experienced great results.
The first treatment in the system is the Renewing Cleanser. It has tiny beads to help exfoliate your skin. I personally use it twice a day, one in the morning and then before going to bed. Just squeeze enough amount on your fingertips and massage it all over your face. When you rinse off you can instantly feel the difference.
Right now my blemishes are not as noticeable as it was before. Of course, as the infomercial says, you have to use the whole system to achieve better results, which is exactly what I'm doing.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Proactive will continue to live up to its promise.

I swear by this product--but it's not for everyone!
by kimmytx ,Jun 12 '06
Pros: My face has been acne free for three years! Cons: The product can bleach towels or other fabrics.
I have been using Proactiv for about three years now. As a teenager, I never had really bad acne, but around my mid-20's I started having the worst acne. I tried EVERYTHING. A friend recommended Proactiv and I laughed--I thought it had to be a joke.
Three years later, my skin is clear and I rarely have breakouts. When I do have a breakout, it is because I am running low on cleanser and am trying to stretch it until I get my next bottle.
I have found that I don't need to use the full three steps everyday. I use my own face lotion most of the week and use the Proactiv toner and lotion once or twice a week.
Also--for those who don't want to buy the full package (three pieces), I have found that many shopping malls have kiosks set up to sell Proactiv products. I can purchase a bottle of cleanser separately whenever I need it. It runs about the same--around $17 a bottle. You can also find it on Ebay!

When it works, it REALLY works!
by webpinion ,Dec 01 '06
Pros: Works well for most people, quick results, awesome cleanser, a little goes a long way Cons: Doesn't work for everyone, but you'll know right away (2-3 days, tops)
This is one of those love-it or hate-it products. I love it because it works for me. I've used it for 4 years, and only purchased it because a friend of mine with terrible acne suddenly looked awesome and I asked her what she was using. I had seen the infomercials, and just thought it was typical marketing hype. Not true in my case. Please take the reviews with a grain of salt... For some people, it doesn't work at all; for others, it's great. You won't know until you try it. I have sensitive skin and only used the cleanser daily in the shower, and the repair lotion every few nights. Otherwise, my cheeks would start to get a tad red, like a sunburn. The toner isn't really necessary. FYI, you can get tailored follow-up shipments (like 2 cleansers and a repair lotion, instead of getting a toner). My supply lasts 4-6 months because I need so little of it. Literally just a few drops. I also recommend stopping use of it for a few weeks and then resuming, because my skin gets used to it. I also like their moisturizer with sunscreen.

Celebrity Spokespeople Paid off!
by stepmomandmom ,Jul 27 '06
Pros: None Cons: It made my acne WORSE!
Seriously this is the worst product I have ever used on my skin. I have acne prone, oily skin. I get a variety of types of acne, the small little pimples all the way to the big cystic pimples. All are very painful. On top of having bad skin I have sensitive skin. I tried this product about 6 months ago praying for some relief, what I got was a nightmare instead. This cleanser felt like sandpaper against my skin! It talks about how it's so gentle and made for the most sensitive skin, well that is clearly not true. My skin broke out worse than ever! I wouldn't recommend anyone every buy this product.

I wasn't looking for more acne
by shoebox13 ,Jan 16 '04
Pros: At least I got my money back Cons: Made acne worse, expensive, takes up a lot of time
I have always had oily skin and occasional breakouts. After starting college and living in the dorms, I noticed that my friends and I started to break out more frequently. I decided to try Proactive because it was expensive and there are so many good reviews of it. My acne breakouts used to be just a few zits spread out over my face. After using Proactive, I started to break out in places on my face that I never had before, and there were clusters of mini zits all of the time. I used the product for about 2 months and it never got better. I would recommend trying the product because I know it has worked for a lot of people, but PLEASE return it within the money back time frame if you are not seeing results.

NON-ACTIV IS THE BETTER NAME FOR IT
by sablecafenyc ,Feb 20 '04
Pros: Zilch! Cons: One of the worst skincare products ever manufactured.
This product completely sucks. Both my brother and I who suffer from moderate acne, decided to give into the infomercial and give proactiv a try. We figured, what we had to lose after trying so many other products. I'll tell you what we had too lose: how about all that money for those three little bottles and self confidence, because this product made our skin worse. It irritated mines to the point that I still have the irritation marks on my skin after using this product a couple years back. Yeah, they talk a good and convincing game in the infomercial, but it's all a hoax!

Semi-pleased
by merrima ,Nov 02 '04
Pros: Somewhat less acne, less oil throughout the day Cons: BLEACHED MY TOWELS!! Plus dry patches, redness, didn't clear blackheads.
I am currently using Proactive and have been for about 6 months, but I am not 100% satisfied with it. I am searching for a better product, one that doesn't dry my skin, make my face red and blotchy, and doesn't leave dry patches along my t-zone. I feel that the side effects are not worth the small difference I have noticed in my acne. It is better than before I started using Proactive, but not so much better that I'll continue.

the best! :)
by skinsavey ,Oct 02 '06
Pros: deep cleans, exfoliates, fights zits!! Cons: small tube, have to buy online or over the phone.
living in the south tends to make you have tanned skin. but what comes with that is thickened, peeling skin. i used to use just foaming face washes, such as neutrogena or biore'. but they just didn't clean very well. and they did not get rid of acne. so then i switched to benzoyl peroxide cleansers, like oxy and clean and clear. however, they didn't foam very well and it felt like a thick lotion on my skin. i would get out of the hot shower and towel off my face and there'd be peeling skin everywhere. i could literally scrape it off with a cotton ball and toner. this took way too much time and required way too many products.
LUCKILY, i found proactive solution renewing cleanser. it has the zit-fighting benzoyl peroxide and it has the buffing beads to slough off that nasty dead skin. (the stuff that causes pimples!) my skin feels clean and fresh after i use it. the buffing beads are actually strong enough to do some serious cleaning without irriating my skin.
i absolutely love this cleanser.

Best on Oily or Combination Skin
by amp_espi_di ,Aug 29 '06
Pros: Cleanses skin leaving it refreshed. Works well with Step 2 and Step 3. Cons: Doesn't take make-up off well.
Hits the wallet pretty hard.
I believe this product works best on oily/combination skin types like mine. It does a good job of cleansing the oil and dirt off of my face and the massaging crystals/grit feel fine to me. I don't recommend it as a make-up remover because I still find make-up on the cotton ball after using the Step 2 toner. Instead, cleanse your face with a mild soap to get the make-up off and then use the Proactiv system. And really do use it 2 times a day or you may not see results for three or four weeks.

amazing results!
by afauxfoe ,Oct 12 '05
Pros: The bottles aren't obnoxiously colored like other more common popular brands. Cons: Wish the bottles were larger. I'd also like to be able to buy at stores.
In my late 20's I started getting acne...talk about a late bloomer?! I tried as many different products as I could get my hands on from clearasil to old fashioned witch hazel. After seeing infomercials about proactive I decided to try the whole set. Within a week I noticed a change in texture and my skin began to heal. Thanks to proactive I dont feel that my skin looks like a pizza anymore :) WELL worth the price!
