Roomba VS Two 90lb Labradors by josh_wilson99 ,Feb 14 '07
Pros: Too many to list. This thing is just a wonderful invention!! Cons: It's a little noisy, but hey, it's a vacuum cleaner, what do you expect.
It is a constant battle at my house keeping up with 2 90lb labradors and 2500 sq ft of hardwood floors. I have to say I thought the Roomba was a gimmick until I purchased one for myself. This little thing is a life saver!! Not only does it sweep up the endless tumbleweeds of doghair, but it gets under the coffee table, under beds, under the entertainment center, and even in the corners where the stuff collects. I feel like a new person, now I just need to decide what to do with all that time I will not be spending endlessly sweeping my floors. And as far as the dogs go, they are not bothered by the Roomba at all. They just lay there on the floor while it does it's thing. Thank-you Epinions for helping me realize the Roomba is definately not a gimmick, and that it is one of the greatest household cleaning tools out there on the market today. Next step: Scooba - for mopping your floors, cannot wait to try this one out!!!!
Wow..luv it luv it luv it by betsy_952 ,Aug 13 '07
Pros: Cute, entertaining, set it and let it go. I love how it calculates the area. Cons: little noisy, cup fills with husky hair quickly, fiddely getting husky hair out of rollers
Just got it, works great. With a husky who is in the process of shedding his wednesday coat, gearing up for his saturday coat, this is a wonderful little gaffer. I did get the quick charger as that seemed to be most of the complaints. I think this is going to be an excellent, in-between deep cleaning product. I was very impressed with the amount of fine particles of dust that it picked up. I like the way it transitions from the bare bathroom floor and over the bath mats that my full size vac eats.
Pros: Cleans better than my hoover vacuum Cons: None
I have 3 dogs and a 4,000 sq ft home and this Roomba handles both with no problem. I never thought it would vacuum so well. I love the way it goes back to the charger when it is done. It handles carpets and tile floors with no problems. PS I fired my cleaning lady. Ha I can't wait until next Christmas when my husband gets me the Roomba that washes floors.
Simply amazing and it works great! by in_calibrator ,Feb 20 '06
Pros: Very easy to use and clean. Fun to watch. Great on hardwood and carpet. Cons: A tad loud on hardwood floors but its a vacuum cleaner after all.
I was given Roomba as a gift and was very skeptical. After getting it out of the box and simply pressing the "Clean" button Roomba started its job. I was amazed at how well it navigates around chairs, along baseboards, and under beds. It does its job very well. I even tested it by vacuuming the floor with a conventional upright vacuum first and then put Roomba to the task. Its dirt bin was 1/2 full of stuff! It might seem like a toy but its really not. People spend $100 on robot dinosaurs that walk around like chickens and growl. Why not spend another $100 or so and get a practical robot that is actually useful!
Good Idea, Not Ready Yet by niteflyer757 ,Jan 15 '08
Pros: I don't have to vacuum. Cons: Technical support, battery issues, getting stuck
I purchased my Roomba Red a few years ago. Shortly after I got it, the battery stopped holding its charge. I would charge it for hours, and after only few moments, it would stop. I contacted IRobot who at various times replaced the battery, the charging brick and finally the entire Roomba.
It didn't help. I've had the same problem with the new Roomba. They replaced the battery for the new one, and the new one eventually started doing the same thing. Then I went out and bought a new battery and still have the same problem.
Technical assistance gave me various instructions on fixing the problem--none of which worked. Now they're telling me that it's no longer under warranty, so too bad.
I would suggest that you avoid this product. Even when it works, it has a terrible habit of getting stuck under things like sofas or shelves. You basically have to block it from getting under anything or it will get stuck and stop.
My robotic second child! by jlundquist1 ,Jan 05 '05
Pros: It works as good as the manuf. says! No vacuuming! Cons: can't set it and leave, but you can do other things than vacuum.
We have 3 cats and a dog, a house that is half tile/half carpet, and a two year old. With some Christmas money we bought a Roomba Discovery. I was skeptical but this thing is awesome!. Yes you have to: empty the bin after every room (at least), clean the brush often, help it when it gets stuck (rarely), and pick it up and put it in the room you want to clean. You don't have to: Lug out a vacuum, plug it in, and push the sucker. Roomba is so labor-free that I've used it in every room, every day since we got it. Only criticism is that it doesn't find the base too well. Usually I just pick it up, put it in front of it and it finds it. Once I let it try on it's own, took it about 20 minutes to find it. But who cares you don't have to vacuum!!!
Roomba (aka Sunny) ROCKS, Oreck is in the closet. by headsuwin ,Jan 03 '05
Pros: Quiet, fast, deep cleaning, and cooler than sliced bread. Cons: Does not do stairs, da!
I am a vacuum snob. Living on a fram with a German Shepard, hair and dirt is a never ending battle. I cleaned the floors with a fresh Oreck bag, twice over. Ran the roomba one time. The roomba was half full of dirt and dog hair. I put another fresh bag on the Oreck and gave the house a once over. Almost nothing in the oreck bag. I cut the roomba loose after a 1 hour charge. Roomba picked up a hand full of hair and dirt. The Oreck missed it.
I love my Oreck; but, the roomba rookie has the starters job now!!!!
Pros: Cleans well. Courteous and helpful customer service. Cons: Unreliable with an unacceptably short manufacturer's guarantee.
The Roomba cleaned our tiled floor well, but it is a complex electro-mechanical device which is fragile and unreliable. The manufacturer, who offers only a 180 day guarantee, obviously does not expect the device to last very long either.
My first Roomba expired in around 3 months and I found that customer service was excellent. The replacement Roomba lasted for about six months.
Do not expect your Roomba to last longer than the in-store guarantee that you are willing to pay for.
AMAZING !! I love this machine ! by miamiminnie ,Dec 28 '04
Pros: Its ability to get into tight corners & underneath furniture & beds. Cons: It is a little noisy- but that's how I know it's doing it's job !
Being forever a sceptic, I bought my Roomba from a local store- thinking I could return it easily if not satisfied. There is no way I would part with this little genius. It constantly amazes me with its ability to get into tight corners, & underneath beds & furniture. We have 3 dogs & a cat in our home, so this machine is a Godsend! It picks up the hair like magic-I just have to make sure the roller stays clean-a pair of scissors does the trick.I do not hesitate to recomend this machine to everyone- it really is the best invention since sliced bread! As far as entertainment value- it fascinates the dogs- my big mutt sleeps wrapped around it--it's his buddy !
Pros: Great on tile and wood. Cons: Didn't pick up the cat hair on my carpets.
I couldn't wait to get started with this roomba! What could be better, than having someone else magically vacuum for me... and initially, I was pretty happy. This little machine is magic on my wood floors, but the minute I got it on my carpets, it was a whole other story. Poor thing just couldn't seem to suck it up. It tried, let me tell you, but it failed miserably. Now, I had been warned that it wasn't that great on long carpets or fringes, but mine was a mid-length! Why wouldn't it work? Maybe my carpet was cheap, but regardless, I'm bummed. Plus my battery died within the first year and the rubber came off the tires. IRobot was good about replacing the tires, but I haven't tried too hard to replace the battery. To be honest, it just isn't doing it for me anymore.
This little machine is awesome!... by owell388_dt3000 ,Mar 19 '03
This little machine is awesome! If you dislike vacuuming, this is the machine to have. We cannot figure out how it determines its direction, but it does a thorough job anyway. It even senses stairs and backs up and changes direction. Roomba works well on carpeting as well as hardwood floors, and transitions easily. If you don't use the barrier sensor unit, it will work its way through the house without supervision.
Battery technology is underdeveloped by kmk45koch21 ,Nov 24 '08
Pros: Great idea, cool software. Cons: Battery capabilities are a joke.
The Roomba was great....while the battery could hold a charge. After 6 months, the battery was completely dead. Tried suggested full-charge/discharge cycles, with no success.
Not willing to spend another $70 for another battery and 6 more months of life.
This thing will be great when the battery technology becomes sufficient to robustly power a mobile vacuum cleaner.
Pros: great concept, cleans pet hair well on hardwood Cons: too fragile, expensive, rarely returns to the docking station, difficult to clean
Bought the Scheduler in December for my wife. Worked for one week before the plastic roller melted into the insert which resulted in the Roomba no longer turning on. Had to pry off the roller rendering it useless even with the roller replacement that comes with the kit. The store gave us a replacement without questions and we were back in action for 2 more weeks until the little sweeper stopped working, the speaker sounded bizarre (no big deal) and it started going around in circles with no direction for about a minute before stopping completely. Cleaned everything out and tried again - same thing. Will try to return and go back to our manual ways of cleaning our hardwood.
The Best Christmas Present! by suzicoupon ,Dec 28 '05
Pros: Also goes under beds and around furniture. Cons: Not as powerful as a traditional vacuum. Can get hung up on small rugs.
I got a roomba for Christmas. I would not have bought one for myself, but I was sooo excited when I got one for Christmas.
An awesome little machine, relatively quiet and it just makes it's way around grabbing up the dirt. When it's tired, it goes back to it's docking station to recharge itself.
With two kids and a cat, the roomba is terrific for cleaning up after a heavy day of play, snacks and everyday little messes. The kids were amused chasing it around, but they soon lost interest. The cat also followed it around in sheer amazement.
I was extremely impressed with my new little gadget and roomba'd the enitre house.
