Pros: stainless, steam options including vertical use, heavy duty but light Cons: a bit expensive at $80
Rowenta Focus DZ5080 Iron.. I started doing a bit more sewing in my “free” time and needed an iron which worked a bit better than my regular one. In addition, my daughter started using my old iron to melt her Perler beads and I couldn’t trust ...

Pros: Professional results Steam is ready very quickly Glides effortlessly on fabrics Very well built Cons: Sticker shock for those of us who typically buy lesser expensive irons
Well Folks, over the years, I have bought many irons ranging from very cheap (10 bucks) to expensive (50 bucks). Paying approximately 80 bucks for this iron was a little scary. I didn't know what I was getting for it and why anyone would pay so ...

Got a Lemon
by jokumura ,Mar 27 '09
Pros: Tons of steam holes Cons: For the price, didn't last very long. Have to unplug to shut it off
Purchased the dz5080 November 2006. Worked great for a few months, then started spitting out white substances even though we were using spring water as recommended. Constantly would leak out water while ironing. This month is was leaking all over even when not in use. Tossed it after only 2 years - which for the money ($70) - should have lasted longer.

Very dissapointing
by spinin_unrest ,Oct 01 '08
Pros: ...lots of steam holes? Cons: Expensive, short life, very drippy
I purchased this iron July 7th; August 20th I returned it to Bed, Bath and Beyond because it was leaking out of the bottom holes. Now, October 1st, the new iron is doing the same thing. This iron is going back to Bed Bath and Beyond and I'm getting a different model...possibly a different brand. $80 is way too much for something that only functions properly for a month and a half.

An Iron for Grown-Ups
by captaindave2 ,Feb 20 '07
Pros: adequate weight, doesn't feel flimsy; shows you when it's heating, when it's ready; water capacity Cons: not teflon; dial poorly positioned; no off switch
I needed a new iron since I was sending my old one to the country house, and sprang for a Rowenta Focus DZ5080. I'd been using a fairly basic teflon-coated Black & Decker 380, which had been just fine. I chose it because it seemed like a premium product, was built in Germany (I wanted to find something made in the USA, but found no irons manufactured here. No wonder our balance-of-trade is so bad), and looked well-designed.
I've used it just a few times so far, but like its solid feel, electronic features, the way it takes, stores and deploys water/steam and long cord. You can use tap water, it doesn't need distilled. The nose is pointy and gets around buttons nicely.
It does not have teflon on its soleplate and I hope it doesn't start to "stick" over time. The dial goes to "minimum" but doesn't click to "off" -- there is no "off" -- which I'd prefer. The dial is a little hard to see under the handle.

I got my money's worth!
by texaraguan ,Jul 22 '08
Pros: price, steam, water sprayer, size and weight Cons: none that I know of
I have used Rowenta irons for many years and I couldn't be happier with this brand. I have never had problems with it. When I have replaced my irons it has been because I want a bigger one or a newer one, with new features, but never due to malfunction. The size and weight are ideal and the water compartment is great. I no longer need to be spraying water on my clothes, the iron releases steam and it makes my job easier, leaving my clothes wrinkle free. Ever since I have had the Rowenta iron, there is no need for starch. I am so glad I don't have to mess with that either!
I would recommend this brand. For the price and quality, it is an excellent buy! I would buy again and again, even though it is not necessary. I just pass the used one on to someone less fortunate than me and but the newest and more improved model.
Make your life easier! Get Rowenta. You will thank me for it.

Great Iron
by jmadukayil ,Jun 07 '08
Pros: Light, ergonomic, very good design, very good heat as good as a professional iron. Cons: Only like 1500W heat though 1700W. Is nearly double price of B&D.
After using GE, Shark and Black & Decker, I moved over to Rowenta Focus DZ5080.
This is a great iron. The 400 tiny holes for steam in the soleplate does do a very good job. It is a light iron and easy to use and control. Most ergonomic iron I have ever used.
The Black & Decker Iron I used was also good but it was heavy when filled with water.

My Rowenta Iron DZ5080 was overpriced and low quality
by doug1kid ,Aug 30 '08
Pros: The short time it worked, it did a good job. Not much else pro.
Cons: The Iron is over priced, and of poor quality and reliability.
I purchased the Rowenta DZ5080 at Kohl's Store for my wife. She wanted a good quality Iron that would last. After a few months the Iron leaked water from the base.Rowenta made us sent it to a service center. After 2 months and numerous phone calls we finally received it back from the Rowenta. The insulation on the cord was cut and there was about 1 inch of bare copper wire exposed (Very Serious Safety issue). Back to the factory for another month. After 14 months the Iron quit heating and smelled of an electrical short. We called Rowenta and they informed us the Iron was out of warranty. Numerous calls to supervisors did not help. Meanwhile the cheap iron we purchased at Wal-Mart, while we were waiting for this Iron to be repaired, is still working. I expected a quality Iron for the price I paid and the Iron I received was junk. Rowenta customer service does not exist. If you purchase one, hope you get a good one. My advise - purchase a cheap Iron at Wal-mart. Doug Keirn

Rowenta Focus
by mrd1962 ,Nov 21 '07
Pros: Nice weight, long cord, great steam Cons: no off button, need to unplug. Dial too easily moved while ironing-bad placement.
I purchased the Focus from Kohl's for $73.99. I was used to the Euro Pro Steam Generator, but alas, it gave up after 6yrs. I do like the Focus. It steams really well, I have steamed my suit jackets. I would highly recommend it to someone who wants a great iron for under $100.
