A lot of scanner for your money

by gbraun , Aug 17 '01
Pros: Price, shadow detail, image quality
Cons: should probably use third party software
It took me a while to decide to pick up this scanner instead of spending the extra money on a more expensive one, but I haven't been disappointed with the decision (and I don't think I'm just trying to justify my own decision).

Prior to buying...

A Good scanner for the money

by jdluhmann , Nov 24 '00
Pros: Good quality, Good price
Cons: No Digital dust remover, Questionable service
My purpose in purchasing a slide scanner was to enable me to create saleable prints from a large library of slides. I researched the various scanners quite extensively on the web. Prior to the introduction of the Scan Dual II I was most interested in...

Just right for non-production use

by tharrison02459 , Aug 04 '01
Pros: Inexpensive, small, USB, flexible
Cons: slow
I shoot 35mm color negatives, but wanted a way to combine the creative control and quality of film and darkroom with the versatility and convenience of digital. This Minolta scanner fit the bill perfectly.

I run in Windows 2000, and the USB...

A Pleasant Surprise

by Viking55803 , Mar 07 '02
Pros: Quality scans, reasonable speed, easy connectivity, low price
Cons: Mediocre software
I have been scanning photo prints at high resolution using a variety of flatbed scanners. My film camera equipment is high quality SLR and the resulting prints are sharp if the photo lab does a decent job. The problem is that you are have three color...

A Good Value for Mid-Level User

by jwsamuel , Aug 27 '01
Pros: Good value, easy to use, high-quality scans. Uses USB port instead of SCSI.
Cons: Slow scan time, customer support not always available and of limited help.
If you have slides or negatives that you want to scan into digital images, take a look at the Minolta Dimage Dual Scan II slide scanner.

I looked at several slide scanners before choosing the Minolta. The main factor in making this choice was...

Good for slides.

by nscho , Jun 23 '01
Pros: Excellent price/performance for slides.
Cons: Very grainy negative scans.
I bought this to scan all my pre-digital photos, and since I want to continue using my EOS gear and work with the pictures on my computer. Since this scanner is quite a lot cheaper than its competitors, I suspected that the quality would not be close to...

Minolta Scan Dual II

by artisticmedia , Jul 31 '01
Pros: USB connection & price, if the unit works
Cons: Slow speed, very bad color quality & consistency, lot's of noise, very poor customer service
The scanner was easy to setup and both the PC and Mac. Scanning time is slow, approx. 3-4 minutes for a full resolution scan. Scan quality varies greatly from poor to terrible and film type (slide or neg) or brand (tried Kodak/Fuji/Illford) doesn't make...

Amazing scans at a very good price.

by erickzig , Mar 16 '01
Pros: Great quality, especially for the price.
Cons: Lack of manual control.
I purchased this scanner for $420 and I have been very happy with the results. I am a semi-pro photographer and was very skeptical that a scanner at this price range would yield professional quality scans for printing and displaying. I was wrong. The...

Avoid Minolta's Scan Dual 2

by JoeE.Hudson , Apr 11 '01
Pros: Never found any pros
Cons: Difficulty installing and absolutely no support from Minolta.
I was never able to get the scanner installed. Even called on a local tech for help but he was not able to install. Three e-mails to Minolta did not bring any return communication. A phone call was answered by what was suppose to be a tech and he...

What a disappointment

by ishilov , Sep 06 '01
Pros: Cheap, good quality/speed for slides, good color, relatively high resolution
Cons: not reliable output, terrible customer support, very slow on negatives, autofocusing is bad
I decided to by this scanner somewhere in March 2001. I was attracted by it's price and spec. Also I had read some good reviews, although there where complains about the tech support. I hoped that my knowledge about digital devices would let me not to...

A fine slide/negative/aps scanner
by beachen ,Nov 27 '03
Pros: Great output. Great dollar value
Cons: Slow, SLow, Slow, but worth the wait.
I've taken many slides in my days. I need a way to make them digital. I wanted something that would scan at a high resolution and be reasonable in costs. I looked at various scanners that were slides only, but always came back to this one. I really wasn't interested in the negative/APS capabilities.

You need to keep the scanner clean(free of dust). You need to make sure that the format that you are scanning is clean (Common with any scanner). After that, you sit back and wait because this scanner is slow, but the output is worth the wait. I wouldn't bother using the scanning software that is included. Try Vuescan.

I've scanner over 1000 slides, 100 negatives and 20 APS formats now. No problems. Big thing is know the software you're using. You need to get all the settings adjusted to your likings.

The APS adapter is extra.
