Pros: Size, Price, image quality, features Cons: Speed, software, battery life
On a recent trip over the pond to Chicago (I'm from the North of England) I found myself with some spare cash. Whilst in Circuit City I found the Digimax 200 at $149.00 (an open box price) and proceeded to try it out. Unfortunately it seems like a few...
Pros: Sharp photos, good options, fast downloads, cheap Cons: Slow, high battery drain ... did I mention slow?
While I'll agree that, for the money, this is an excellent camera, particularly for everyday photography and a good choice for those new to digital cameras, there are a few things I found quite frustrating about it.
Pros: small and simple to use. Lots uof useful features like audto flash and video capabilities Cons: only uses 2 AA batteries and battery life sucks.
the camera is pretty good and easy to use for the most part. As for the price, it could have been a little lower considering the battery life does not last very long at all. It uses 2 AA batteries which are already half dead and ive only had the camera...
Pros: - Looks nice
- Built in TV output Cons: - Appalling battery life
- Confusing menu interface
I bought this camera the day before my honeymoon to record a few memories. I tried taking a few shots and familiarized myself with the controls, just to make sure everything worked.
On arrival I turned the camera on, and it turned itself off....
Pros: easy to use, macro function, TV-OUT Cons: pics look granulated at 1600x1200, EXTREMELY SLOW with a 128MB card.
I purchased this camera after having a Polaroid PDC-640 so it was a great improve to have a 2.1MP cam.
It came built in with a 8MB card. It was very fast to take pics until I bought a 128MB card. It turned to be very slow. In poorest conditions you'll have to wait up to 27 seconds for the camera to be ready to shoot (with flash fully charged). What I mean is that this isn't an action camera.
Besides, photos taken with maximum resolution (1600x1200) doesnt look as sharp and clear as pics taken with 800x600.
Pros: light-weight, hi-res for 2MP camera, easy controls and downloading Cons: auto-shutoff feature
Our first digital. Bought to take pictures of church expansion in progress. Used for nearly a year now. Very easy to download pictures to PC (mine is a Dell Dimension 8100). Takes great pictures outdoors with sun above horizon. Takes usable pictures indoors with sufficient light; acts like a camera with 100 ASA film for experienced user's reference. A 64MB card holds over 250 photos at max res of 1600x1200. A pair of LiMH batteries fully charged typically last 100+ shots (with flash on roughly half the pictures). This camera does suffer from the painfully long startup time and click-to-click times common to most cameras in this class. But this is only a real problem because of the following ... the only real complaint we have ... the auto-shutoff feature Samsung included to "save the batteries". The problem is that it shuts the camera off within 30 seconds if one doesn't take a picture so roaming around a party trying to take candid shots will result in more cursing than clicking. And it cannot be turned off or the time extended.
Gee... it zap the power of two AA batteries in less than an hour or approx 16 pictures only. I have to buy four 1000mAmp rechargeable batteries to fill up 32MB memory stick (108 pictures)
Computer instantly recognizes the camera... by sergio_dt3000 ,Jan 16 '03
Computer instantly recognizes the camera without any installation. I was just setting up the camera and took about 10 - 15 shots; my new set of alkaline batteries was totally exhausted. Autofocus is pretty bad. Only about 30% of pictures were sharp.
I know, this camera eats normal batteries. Buy some 1800/2000 Ni Mh and charger - your worries will diminish. They last a lot better than normal batteries, and will pay for themselves in a couple of weeks! At this price point an excellently featured camera, easy to use and transferring images to the PC is simple and fast. I would buy another one.
I think it is an excellent value for the Money--It takes great pic's and is fairly simple to use. I use it for taking photo's of the many various Acrylic Artwork's I create. Plan on having my own Website soon & offer some of my work's to the World to view/buy!

This camera is a great buy (I bought mine for $148 at Walmart), and for the price it takes wonderful pictures! They are very clear and it works inside just as well as it works outside.
The only problem I have with this camera is the battery life. With Duracell Ultras the battery life is only about an hour or so, if that. I couldn't believe it! I was very disappointed. I will be buying rechargable batteries and a charger, I would advise you do the same if you buy this or any other digital camera.

I bought this camera because of price and the Samsung name. I have a point and shoot that blew me away with its qaulity and therefor I bought this camera. I have an old DC120 from Kodak and still use it because of its features, but from what I have seen of the Digimax 200 I will use it more. For the price you can't lose!
It's small enough to fit in a briefcase or pocket. I use it to document everything I do. It's easy enough to understand how operate. The download take seconds and I am printing out picture or sending them off to friends.
