Great Picture and good value
by roguez33 ,Nov 28 '06
Pros: Great Picture for HD and digital channels. HD tuner with ATSC and Qam.
Cons: Power up and channel changing is very slow. Remote could be better.
My first impression of this LCD is good. The picture quality is great. Connections are easy to get to. I like the built in HD tuner with QAM (Cable).

I do have some things that could have been done better.
The time it takes to power up the unit is very slow. The tuning could be better. The time it takes to change the channel is very slow. The favorite channel selection is very limited. It only allows 4 favorites. With Cable and their sub-channels (HD Channels, it is difficult to navigate. The remote is way more complicated than necessary and it is not have back lighting.

Overall I really like this LCD. Sharp needs to work on the finer points to make this a great unit.

Fantastic picture
by bbrougher ,Dec 13 '06
Pros: Picture, Colors, sound
Cons: slow channel change but who cares!
Blown away by the clarity of OTA signal. OTA HD is even better. Haven't received my DirectTV HD box yet, but even with the antiquated coaxial cable and SD box, the picture is better than the tube TV I replaced. Tuner is slow, but that is the only drawback I have seen one week into owning it. Almost bought a lesser quality brand then this went on sale for $899 at BB.( Then used a 12% off coupon from rewards card ) Maybe not as "bright" as some in the showroom, but definitely the most realistic color reproduction. Sound is better than any box set I've owned, and the six inputs and 2 outputs allow for lots os add ons. Can't go wrong with this one...

Do Not Purchase a Sharp LCD Flat Screen TV - You Will Be Sorry
by rod2gerty ,Jan 04 '08
Pros: 1. Good Picture before the Aquos Black Screen of Death happened. 2. Good Form Factor.
Cons: 1. No Picture. 2. Speakers in the set are low powered.
I purchased my Sharp Aquos LC-32D4OU 32 inch TV in September of 2006. Recently, I have experienced a problem when I attempt to turn on the TV. There is no picture and the sound is fine. I did some searching on the web and found hundreds of accounts of the same problem with Sharp LCDs - many models. The time-frame in which the problem occurs is commonly from 13 to 16 months. If I may, I'm calling this problem the "Aquos Black Screen of Death". I will NEVER buy another Sharp product. I wish I had surveyed the web better before I bought the TV.

aquos delivers
by sushimonkey ,Nov 08 '06
Pros: Picture quality, size, just looks good even when off. Solid HD.
Cons: wish it had multiple HDMI inputs and an easier to use remote.
I purchased this set in 11/05, have been completely satisfied with picture quality, HD quality and the ease to set up. Colors are accurate, blacks are really black. For a moderate sized room, study or bedroom don't waste your time on anything else. It delivers far more than other more expensive type technologies.

Sharp black screen of death
by zorkon ,Jun 27 '08
Pros: It was a great TV until it stopped working well.
Cons: That the TV goes bad after a year or so is a huge negative.
I'm also dealing with the screen turning black after seeing "Please Wait". The last time it happened I could not get it to work for almost a full day.

I have no idea even how to get it fixed and apparently from reading other reviews, Sharp is no help.

I love this set
by rhc0324 ,Aug 14 '07
Pros: Picture, appearance, ease of use.
Cons: I honestly can't think of any.
I can't think of any disappointments we've had with this set. The picture, even analog, is awesome. It's very attractive, and its slim design doesn't seem to compromise quality. It works fine with our Comcast remote. Setup is quick and easy.

Great TV
by bsnyder77399 ,Dec 23 '05
Pros: Picture Quality, Off-Air Tuner, Sound Quality, Price
Cons: Still Looking
Had a hard time finding one, but it was worth the search. The picture quality on HD is unbelievable. I live about 30 miles from Tampa Bay, and I was able to receive over 15 digital channels by simply hooking up my existing 20 yr old roof top antenna. The off air HD broadcasts are considerably better than my non-HD Direct TV which I originally thought was excellent. The sound quality was a real surprise. I figured I would need a sub woofer to get the kind of bass this thing puts out. No disappointments yet.

Great TV! Worth the reasonable price.
by mlmichigan ,Sep 04 '07
Pros: Great picture quality, especially HD, good brand reputation.
Cons: None so far.
I have had this 32-inch TV for almost 6 months so I can now give an informed and educated opinion. Bottom line - it's a great TV. I had a nightmarish experience buying a 32-inch Polaroid which was about $300 cheaper but broke after 2 months, and the frustration of dealing with their repair and customer service departments was off the charts. Eventually I got my money back and decided to focus more on the quality than the price. This TV has both - not terribly expensive, but so much more reliable. Picture quality is fabulous, especially the HD channels, which in some ways look better than on my 52-inch! I am not a guru in terms of technical terms (Pixels, 4:3 ratio, etc.), all I know is, the research I did on the brand stated Sharp was very reliable and the set has been great so far. Major "thumbs up!"

Sharp as a sack of wet mice
by renegade28 ,Nov 06 '07
Pros: Excellent picture quality and features
Cons: Customer support is atrocious.
The TV when working was a beautiful example of a 32" HDTV. But after 9 months it went south.

Sharp's customer support has been troublesome. I'm still waiting for the Repairer to replace parts 8 weeks after the initial service request was made...

Very frustrating... and to think that I chose to buy a Sharp brand TV for the customer support that I expected to receive. They've got until Friday and then I'm completely pitching a fit.

Poor product
by sewser ,Jun 25 '08
Pros: None! I am mad as hell, and I want to warn everyone.
Cons: Do not buy this crap!
I purchased a Sharp LC-32D40U - AQUOS 32" about 18 months ago. The pictures goes blank (black) about 3-4 seconds after it is turned on. I turn it on then off several times and the same thing happens. Sometimes it will eventually stay on. It is always a surprise if I can watch the TV or not. This is a piece of CRAP. I have never been more disappointed in a product. This was an expensive purchase for me, and I feel as if I have been scammed. What happened to the days when you purchased a product in good faith, and actually got quality goods.

Equal to or better than Sony
by cucumber ,Nov 28 '05
Pros: None so far.
Cons: Only available in black I don't like to dust.
When we went to Sears to buy a Sony, we saw this set on display. We based our opinion on the Sony because of Eopinion reviews and did not believe it possible that a much less expensive Sharp could compete with much more expensive sets.

We use Direct TV (Non HD) with local extra. Using rabbit ears and no Direct TV box, we get local channels clearer than on Direct. Thats five bucks per month saved right there.

Dont buy this TV
by deosgood ,May 30 '08
Pros: Nice looking picture
Cons: Quality problem
Ive had this model for approximitly 14 mouths now was workiing great and now ive started to have a hum possibly the power supply going out. I am also experincing a black screen after the please wait logo and sometimes have to turn the tv off and on in order to get it to work. I called sharp and they said its out warranty and i need to have it serviced. for the amount of money i paid for this tv it should work more then 16 mouths. I wont buy sharp again unless it comes with its own extended warranty. They Suck!

An Excellent HD TV!
by imag1nation ,Aug 22 '08
Pros: Fantastic picture, easy out-of-the-box install, screen options.
Cons: Sound on HD channels are way to low; recommend surround sound.
We've had this set for almost a year now and haven't had a single problem with it. There are many features that allow you to customize your viewing experience. Our only complaint is with sound on HD channels. There is no problem with any movies or non-HD channels, however, in order to 'try' to hear the majority of HD channels we have to turn the volume up full-blast, but sometime it's still not loud enough. We haven't figured out if it's caused from the HD stations, the DVR Cable co., or if it's actually the tv.

Sound Problems
by positiveintent ,Jun 02 '08
Pros: Good product but important limitations
Cons: Product price and anticipated repairs make the cost of ownership very high!
This is a good TV and I purchased it after lot of research and recommendation from consumer reports. 2 years after purchase the sound issues are present. The TV loses sound about 10 minutes of being 'ON' This has happened to a handful of people - see reviews on this and other sites by google search. This seems to occur independent of model or year of production. I talked to SHARP USA and as of June 2008, the company has not acknowledged this defect. I will advise you buy at least 3 or preferably 5 year warranty. I will have to spend about $300 in repairs. Recommend other brands SONY or a cheaper alternative.

Questionable quality
by trvaln23 ,Oct 08 '07
Pros: The TV picture is great when it's working.
Cons: Overall quality of the TV is poor.
I purchased a Sharp Aquos LC-32D40U TV 18 months ago. I was very happy with it until about a month ago, when the screen started going black while I was watching cable or DVDs. At first the problem occurred intermittently, but now it's happening every 5 to 15 minutes. If I power the set off for a bit, the picture comes on fine when I power it back on. But it only stays on for around 15 minutes or less.

The TV is not close to a light, not close to a window, there's no reason for it to be over heating, which is what the Sharp Customer Service rep told me might be happening. The warranty has expired so I will have to pay for repairs myself.

I purchased the Sharp TV because research indicated it was a quality product. I did not buy the extended warranty because a $1500 TV shouldn't need repairs when it is less than two years old! I will not purchase another Sharp product.
