I Knew I Could Trust the SM57, for Shure

by Saxguy Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Sep 14 '05
Pros: solid, versatile performance for under $100 new
Cons: not a one
The Shure SM 57 was one of the microphones I used on my first gig with me providing professional sound a couple of months ago. When acquiring the mikes for my sound system, I sought out microphones that would deliver quality reproduction for my band ...

THE number 1 durable microphone used throughout the world!

by quarternotes , Feb 25 '06
Pros: By far the best buy for the money and very professional.
Cons: A little pricey, but well worth it

It's Earned Its Great Rep: Best Performance for Price
by doeroadx ,May 19 '07
Pros: Ultimate in versatility and reliability: everything a regular workday mic should be.
Cons: None yet.
I use two of these in purely studio applications, less often for vocals than instruments, but a very reliable, durable mic that couldn't deliver more if it cost four times as much.

So far, I haven't let these out of the studio for gig work, and I probably won't. I've miked everything from a tiny African thumb piano to my bodhran with them, and so long as I go to the time and trouble of experimenting with correct placement, I'm always rewarded with great sound. I do use a devoted vocals mic for most leads, but I use these as ambient and background mics, and they're worth every cent of the reasonable price.

I also occasionally will set up two in front of my two-speaker guitar amp, for a slightly different sound than simply running straight lines from the amp into the mixer. There's probably no end to the unusual applications these would work for, and that's what you want in the studio: a dependable workhorse that's not more valuable than your car.

Great versatile mic
by dantebertana ,Dec 09 '06
Pros: durable, high quality, great sounding
Cons: NONE!
this mic is definitely one of the most versatile mics ive ever used. it is extremely durable, my lead singer likes to swing around the misc like the singer in The Who, and so far, it hasn't shorted yet. ive had the mic for about a year now, and is also a great drum mic. when my band first started, we used it as a drum mic, actually the only drum mic. it is definitely one I am going to buy 6 more of for my band.
