Rich, Warm, Balanced, Natural Sound For Under Thirty Bucks

by Bruguru Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Feb 17 '08
Pros: Great balanced sound, deep bass, crisp highs, volume control, great price.
Cons: None come to mind.
Sometimes, the numbers don’t tell the whole story. Some people say that stats don’t lie, while others claim that all they are are lies and...darned lies, to be polite. One thing is for sure: when it comes to something as subjective as speakers ...

Smokin' The Competition: SkullCandy's Smokin' Buds. When Music Is All That Matters

by Freak369 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Nov 07 '06
Pros: Exceptional sound, durable, eliminates almost all outside noise.
Cons: Expensive but more than worth it.
I never thought that I would pay over $20.00 for a pair of headphones. Call me cheap, call me thrifty, call me a penny pincher but I can't see spending a lot of money on something that is only going to last me, at most, six months of use at the ...

SkullCandy Smokin Buds: What a Name Better Yet, "What a Sound!!"

by popsrocks Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Nov 24 '09
Pros: Eliminates most outside noise
good clean/clear sound
Cons: too large to wear in bed...see review
I gotta strike it rich with a good name one day. Would you believe that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sponge Bob Square Pants and now SkullCandy Smokin Buds would be marketable names? I wouldn't and I suppose that's why I'm reviewing these ear buds ...

Smokin' Buds Need More Product Development and Less Cutesy Hype

by scmrak Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Aug 05 '09
Pros: light weight, slider switch, in-the-ear design
Cons: unimpressive frequency response, cheaply made
I was sitting staring at my account over at mycokerewards.com not long ago with a couple thousand points burning a hole in my virtual pocket. At about the same time, I decided that I should probably get a backup pair of headphones for my iPod (remind me ...

A pretty good set of earbuds but not too durable.

by FekIhr , Feb 12 '07
Pros: Stylish, Inline volume control, noise cancellation, excellent audio quality.
Cons: Falls out easy, flimsy case, not good for jogging/running/exercise, broke in under a week!
Skullcandy's smokin buds earbud headphones are a very sleek set of earbuds, but are fatally flawed. The smokin buds come in a few flavors - choose the one that suits your liking. On average, these earbuds cost about $20.00 USD. In the ...

A lot of bang for a few bucks

by gonzocanuck , Aug 19 '07
Pros: Excellent sound and noise cancelling properties on a budget
Cons: Can't think of any.
I purchased these headphones because of a noisy office work environment. I could not afford, nor would work pay for, expensive headphones like the Bose or Sony noise-cancelling headphones. The regular earbuds I was using were not enough to drown out ...

Cute, and nice quality

by got2burself , Nov 11 '08
Pros: Stays in ear, colors, noise reduction and comfy even over an hour in.
Cons: A little pricey
I recently purchased these buds to replace some for my ipod.  I workout a lot with my ipod on so I needed buds that would stay in my ear and would be comfortable.  So far these are exactly what I was looking for.  A friend recommended ...

Not very duable

by myzticshadow14 , Jan 07 '08
Pros: Nice visual design Volume slider
Cons: Break easily Buds fall out a lot
I got these earbuds for $40 at futureshop. I didn't have any previous experience with in-ear headphones, so I didn't really know what to expect. They come with a decent case, but it is not very practical for every-day use. The buds themselves looked ...

Do NOT buy Skullcandy headphones.

by darksniper42 , Jan 19 '09
Pros: Great sound for your money.
Cons: Cheaply manufactured, break easily, replacement process is a pain.
Long story short...I bought a pair of the Smokin' Buds for 27 bucks at Zumiez. Great sound, comfort and all, but the wiring in the cord came loose (where the headphones connect to the iPod) after 2 months and the right headphone goes out and only worked ...

acceptable for most uses
by rristuccia ,Dec 06 '06
Pros: Good sound quality
Cons: difficult to keep in your ear, poorly constructed
There's not a whole lot to say about a pair of headphones. These can produce excellent sound quality and the rubber cups on the buds do a very good job at isolating your music from outside noises. Consequently, you can listen at much lower volumes than with conventional ear buds.

The down-side to these headphones is that they can be difficult to keep in your ear. They come with three different sizes of rubber cups, but none of them seem to fit that well. I've actually taken to paper clipping the chord to my clothes so that there is enough slack around my head. That way, they don't get pulled out when I turn my head.

***UPDATE***
I decided to update my review of these headphones because, after less than months use, they broke. In my opinion, the problems with keeping the buds in the my ears and the poor quality of this set of headphones makes for a product you should avoid.

Great for the money
by mark1214 ,Dec 01 '06
Pros: Noise canceling, volume control and great bass response.
Cons: Thin wire. Headache and hearing lost.
These ear-buds are great and the sounds is amazing and only 20 bucks at Staples.

These ear-buds rock, when compared to factory Ipod buds and Sony's Fontopia Earbuds.

GREAT!
by dennispng ,Jan 05 '07
Pros: Great sound, comfortable fit
Cons: None- listen with confidence
For $19.99 (at Staples), it's a great deal. The sound is clear, sharp, and enjoyable and is excellent for use with an iPod or other MP3 player and with your computer.

The headphones come with 3 different sized ear pieces that can be interchanged to fit your ear, as well as a carrying case.

The best Ive had!!
by ndrew73 ,Feb 24 '07
Pros: Excellent Sound and BASE!! Excellent sound isolation
Cons: Volume switch on the cord pointless
Read my review of the same (black headphones shown on pic).
I dont understand people who gave 1(one) Star AND said that the Sound Quality was excellent! Then why one star?? OR because they "broke it". What is the most important characteristic of headphones??
Back to the main point,

I've had Sony MDR-EX90LP ($99)in-the-ear, V-MODA (gun metal) in-the-ear plugs(99) Sure Ec2 and me and tested them with my family to see if we can agree on something :)

These are BETTER then any of them. Comfortable, good base and sound isolation which is very important for a train-commuter like me

Good buds for the money
by bigtufguy ,Dec 10 '06
Pros: Great sound customer service is top notch.
Cons: opening the storage case odd "Y" shaped cord
I bought a pair of these at FYE for $30.00 thinking they had better not disappoint. They didn't. These can be a bit tricky to find the proper fit but skullcandy provides three sizes of tips. After about two weeks, my left bud died. I sent an email to skullcandy and am to this day waiting for a reply. However, two days after not receiving a reply. I called the number posted on their website. They sent me out a brand new pair, NO questions asked. How can you beat that. While these are not shures they do sound very good. I did see them on sale at Staples for $20.00 and at FYE for $10.00 so, yeah, I'm a bit peed off at that but, not much I can do there. My only complaints are these, getting into the provided case is like opening Fort Knox and unless your name is Houdini or Copperfield..GOOD LUCK. Lastly, what is up with the damned cord ? The left side is 5 1/2 inches long and the right side is 18 1/2 inches long. A REAL weird setup but, maybe I'm missing something here. Anyone have an idea here...???

Not enough max DB output
by gstitanic ,Feb 15 '08
Pros: Look cool
Cons: poor volume output certainly doesnt match the reviews in base etc either
I bought these to replace the buds that came with my creative Zen 4GB MP3 video player. Well it took buying these to tell me how good the Creative Zens stock buds are.The Smokin buds appeared to be smokin but with no flames.I had to crank the volume on the player up about 5 bars to get the similar volume level with the creative buds. The in-ear type sometimes do not sit right and actually block sound, and I felt I could never position them properly for best sound in the ear.Skull Candy do not give you the DB max output. The wires do look very thin and flimsy.I Paid $40 @ The Source Canada. I Returned them and exchanged for Sennheiser MX500s these are 119 DB max.and produce about the same volume levels as the Zen Stock buds but seem much clearer sound. Same price plus the case on the Smokin buds is dumb.
