Pros: Very reliable and quiet. Easy to fold and move around for it's size. Cons: It would be nice if the hand rails could be raised/lowered.
I'm new to treadmills, so I had to rely on in-store demos and user reviews like you see here. Not wanting to spend a lot for something I wasn't sure I'd stick with, I first looked at ProForm and Weslo, but I could tell these were cheaply built and ...

Happy so far
by acorum ,Mar 07 '05
Pros: sturdy, quiet, best treadmill I have seen for the price, customer service Cons: heart monitor isnt convenient
I ordered my Smooth 5.15 online. It arrived 8 days later due to getting the turnkey service. I was so surprised at how quiet it was compared to other treadmills. It feels very sturdy also. I am very pleased with it so far. The only thing i would change is that the heart monitor is located on the handles, so its not super convenient while running.

Very Happy I Chose This treadmill
by mjonis ,Jan 09 '05
Pros: Stability of the frame, oversized belt, smooth running of the belt Cons: No clear directions on how to use the programs on the panel
I bought this treadmill (and spent a bit more than I had been planning) after reading these reviews on eopinions. After 2 months of using the Smooth 5.0, I am so happy with my decision. In comparison with a $600-700 model I had previously, the Smooth 5.0 feels incredibly similar to a commercial treadmill. The belt is so wide that I have no worry whatsoever about my safety and the frame is almost as stable as the treadmills I used at the gym. The movement of the belt is so smooth that I do feel as though I am walking outside on the sidewalk. It is also much quieter than previous models I have had (I can actually hear the television while on the treadmill), although it is not as quiet as a commercial model.

nice, but can't get rid of annoying squeak
by sum1sumwhere ,Apr 16 '05
Pros: reliable Cons: squeaky
I've had this treadmill for two years now, and its used at least weekly by one of five family members. In the two years I've had it, it has performed very well except for one minor problem that bugs thehell out of me. I bugged like three customer service technicians (apparently the guys who actually service the machines.) and they tried their best to help me locate the squeak. After an hour on the phone and having dismantled a few parts we never found it. The only other maintenance I did on it was to adjust the belt which was scraping one side (this was very easy to do and it works great. I would recommend this machine, but you might get a squeaky machine.

Terrible company!
by smoothisnogood ,Jan 26 '05
Pros: The machine costs less than comparable treadmills. Cons: The costumer service was very poor.
They have put forth a large marketing campaign on the internet but dont be fooled. There customer service is horrific. I purchased one because of all the positive ads and because they offer a no questions asked return policy. After recieving it I found some damage on it and decided to return it. I called Smooth customer service and was immediately given the run around. They told me that although they advertise a "no questions asked" return policy, it would be my responsiblity to take it apart, pack it back up and pay for both the delivery and return costs! These costs add up to hundreds of dollars. After many phone calls and alot a bad attitude from the company they finally conceded that it was there responsibility to pay the shipping costs. They only did this because of the damage to the machine, if not for that I would be stuck paying all the cost of returning it. There was of course no mention of this in the advertisments on the internet.Do yourself a favor and buy a Lancice!

Good sturdy buy but watchout for delivery issues
by mad97 ,Jan 01 '05
Pros: Sturdy, hardy and solid. Cons: Delivery and setup issues, no easy keys on machine
I just bought Smooth 5 - it's hardy and sturdy and is good for the price. If you have ordered in-house setup, make sure you call and confirm. The online ordering was done properly but when the delivery came, the shipping company refused to set it up inside because the order that the shipper had did not have in house setup. I was not charged this amount however and after I called Smooth, it was set right by their responsive customer support representative.
Otherwise, the product is behaving as it should. If you don't care about fancy graphic consoles etc. at a good price, this is the treadmill for you.

Smooth 5.0P - beware of height
by charvener ,Jan 04 '04
Pros: Very quiet. Solid. Cons: 10 inches high off the floor at 0% incline.
I bought a Smooth 5.0P for $999 shipping included over the Internet. Go to www.google.com and enter "Smooth 5.0 p" for many reviews. I've only had it a month but so far so good. It is very quiet. One thing to note is that it is about 10 inches off the floor when at 0% incline which makes your head close to the ceiling when walking. I am 6 ft tall. The incline is adjusted by moving the back of the belt up and down, not the front. I'm not sure how other machines work.
Also, it arrived in an 18 wheel tractor trailer. It is on a wooden pallet and very very heavy. It's not possible to move it with a simple hand truck. I didn't pay the extra $50 for movement off the truck but fortunately the driver did it anyway.

Good Equipment - Terrible Service!
by mmyles2001 ,Mar 03 '05
Pros: Smooth Treadmills are well built and a good value for the price. Cons: Customer service is abysmally bad!!! When it breaks you'll be SOL.
I've had a Smooth 5.0P for just about a year now. It is a very well made machine for the money. I used to work in the fitness equipment industry so I'm well acquainted with a wide range of treadmills for both home & gym use. This machine is a good value. BUT, I recently had a problem with the control panel and it needs to be replaced under warranty. I have been trying for almost six weeks to get a replacement part sent. Email after email reconfirming serial numbers, restating the problem... they keep dropping the ball and the unit is still broken. For that reason alone I say stay clear. Sooner or later every treadmill requires service so good service is essential from whoever you buy from.

Do NOT buy smooth treadmill
by johnedward ,Sep 29 '05
Pros: delivered as scheduled Cons: noise, bad looking and it is too late when you get it, screws not matching.
I got my Smooth 5.15P as they scheduled. But, it is so noisy and the screws stuck and can not be taken out. I tried find any Smooth guy to talk with for 7 times but never got connected. This is the first time that I got disappointed by an Internet deal although I have bought many things on line. If you do not want to get the same experience as mine, buy other brands.

Smooth 5.OP Treadmill is it really worth it?
by barbarac102 ,Oct 17 '03
Pros: feels pretty solid, space saver Cons: lousy programs and manual
I recently purchased this treadmill. It was a timely delivery which was good. It seems to work fine. My problem is that the programs aren't very good. I find that the manual program is working best for me and the other programs are very much lacking and not good to use. For $999.00 I was expecting much more. Unless I'm missing something, I don't know why this treadmill is this expensive. I would like to try out the dept store treadmills to compare, but I may find out that I got ripped off. I read the reviews here and bought into it, but I'm not sure if I did the right thing.

Happy smooth 5.0p owner
by snagmule ,Mar 02 '04
Pros: quality level for grade of product good. Nothing to assemble. Quiet and nice controls Cons: none really
Much better quality than the treadmills available through Sears or whatever with a comparable pricepoint. Very quiet and the design of the display on mine was actually different from that on the picture at Smoothfitness.com. Mine has a reading rack above the display and the cup holder on the right-hand side. Maybe this is the newer version? It is much nicer that what I was expecting. I bought a reading rack thinking I would need it, but it turns out I don't with this type of design! It is exactly what I wanted. Doesn't have a programmable workouts or the fancy features like a heart-rate monitor and fan- but I don't need any enhanced program workouts or whatever- and the other items I can get separate. I'm very happy with this product so far!
