Anybody want a slightly used baby monitor?

by dustykins , Sep 27 '05
Pros: Good range, Very sensitive to noise, Voice Activated Feature
Cons: Beeps when near cordless phones, picks up phone conversations, Crackles frequently during the night
We registered for this monitor while we were expecting our son who is now seven months old. There were so many options and so many monitors with good reviews that we settled on this monitor because of Sony's reputation in the electronics industry. ...

Some things are better unheard... but better to hear everything

by drew99_mi , Oct 25 '01
Pros: Good name, good quality, clear reception
Cons: Battery consumption is outrageous! And 9 volt at that!
Here's a scenario you may be familiar with: You've just gotten the baby to bed, not sleeping but not crying, and you're just settling down yourself. Just drifting off to sleep, you hear a grunt and a blast of flatulence. It wasn't you. It wasn't your...

Another triumph for Sony

by tarahodge , Jul 15 '04
Pros: Great sound quality, made by Sony
Cons: None that I have found so far
The Sony BabyCall Nursery Monitor is baby monitor that can either be plugged into the wall or used with a battery if you are moving around. I don't know what the actual range on it is, but we have easily used it in the garage and backyard without any ...

Reliable, Good Buy

by kentmom , Feb 21 '05
Pros: Virtually no interference, "voice-activated" feature is great.
Cons: Would be nice to have a second receiver, sometimes.
Now that we've had this monitor in use for more than a year, I realize how much we've come to rely on it. We replaced the first monitor we had (another brand--forget which) with this 9-channel Sony because we'd had good luck with Sony cordless phones, ...

Best 900 Mhz Monitor

by biholzman , Mar 04 '03
Pros: Voice Activation is Great. Very sensitive and quite. Many Channels.
Cons: Range is Poor, Sensitive to 900 Mhz Phone Transmissions.
I recently purchased this monitor to replace my Fisher Price Sound N Lights monitors as well as a Fisher Price 900 Mhz monitor. While well reviewed, the Sound N Lights monitors have a lot of hiss. What's more, the new versions also hum. I don't quite...

Great monitor!

by first_time_mom , Mar 16 '05
Pros: Voice activated setting, multiple channel choices, range alarm, low battery indicator
Cons: Sometimes picks up interference from cordless phones, pricier than most monitors
We've had this monitor for almost six months now and love it! We tried a cheaper monitor with only two channels and couldn't use either channel. Our neighbors were using both channels already! This monitor gives us a lot more flexibility and has ...

Decent unit for the money

by jlandis44 , Dec 28 '02
Pros: Good sound quality.
Cons: AC adapters are flimsy.
This Sony unit is a very basic unit with no "bells or whistles". If you're looking for a monitor with good sound and range, and do not need any other features (video, "walkie-talkie" capabilities, etc), this monitor will suffice. We used it for over 2...

Good Buy Overall

by thowell , May 03 '04
Pros: Excellent Clarity, Voice activated setting.
Cons: Range, Possible interference with other SONY 900MHz devices in same home.
My wife and I got this monitor as a shower gift. We have a Sony 900MHz Cordless phone and have been very happy with it, so we assumed the monitor would be comparable. The monitor has exceptional sound reception and quality. The microphone is extremely ...

Hear Every Sound in the Room (and in other rooms)

by martowski , Nov 03 '05
Pros: Good range, very clear.
Cons: No real complaints
My wife and I bought this monitor after doing quite a bit of research on different models, brands, etc. Our neighbors, who had their son about 6 months before we had ours, recommended a 900mhz monitor to help ensure we don't get static from our wireless ...

Sony monitor

by tvaldes , Dec 10 '01
Pros: Sony name, Seems well built
Cons: I get a constant hiss or white noise.
When it was finally time to get a monitor, I read lots of reviews. It seems like all monitors are less than stellar (picking up neighbors conversations...lots of static..etc) So I decided to go with the Sony name. The monitors are nice and simple. The...

Sony should do better

by ejeanne , Dec 28 '01
Pros: Good reception
Cons: Doesn't hold up and replacement parts unbelievably expensive
I purchased this monitor when I was pregnant with my first child because it was from Sony. I was happy with it the first few months and then the reception started to wane. After a year or so (ironically just after the warranty expired) our reception got...

Excellent Monitor - Bad AC Adapter Cord
by kdten ,Aug 26 '04
Pros: Long Range, Clear sound, Voice Activated option, Sound alert lights.
Cons: AC Power Adapter goes bad after a couple years. Short Battery life.
We are now on our second unit due to power cord failure. It seems to fail right at the point where the wire enters the wall plug. The wire actually breaks inside the plastic sheathing due to over bending after about 2 years. (We move our unit around the house and plug it in where ever we are.)
We looked into purchasing a new power cord, but direct from Sony was almost equal in cost to a new unit. So, we bought a RadioShack generic adapter, but the adapter never fit right into the monitor, and would frequently cause the monitor to turn off. So we bought a totally new monitor. It's now been about 2 years, and this power cord is doing the exact same thing! We love the monitor, but Sony needs some work on their AC Adapter cord.

Very satisfied with this monitor
by georgiablue ,Apr 03 '06
Pros: sound quality, sensitivity
Cons: very occasional beeping, buzzing
I am very satisfied with this baby monitor. As others have said, there are the occasional random buzzes and crackles, but these have been far and few between for us. We have experienced very little interference from phones, routers, or other electronic devices, which is quite the accomplishment given that we currently live in an apt complex. Those occasions we do get interference, a simple channel change has solved the problem.

The clarity of the sound is excellent in comparison to the basic evenflo unit I had used before. It is also much more sensitive. The receiver generally stays put, so we cannot comment on the battery drain or quality of the power adapter except to say that we have not had any issues the handful of times we have had to move it around. Over the past 6 months of daily use, it has worked better than expected.

Great Monitor!! Love it!
by jada2334 ,May 23 '06
Pros: Great reception, clear, great battery system, light feature, handle, wonderful!
Cons: Sometimes it will beep out of range if you get in it's way.
Great monitor. This monitor is very clear and works from a great distance. We live in a tri-level and other monitors lost reception downstairs. We also live on a large lot and can get reception while in the backyard. We don't use the sound-sensor too much because we use music, so it's always sensing. The lights on the front let you see if your little one is crying, when you are out of earshot or are watching a movie and don't want to hear baby music the whole time! The feature of a battery to unplug is great for use outside or to take it quickly to another room.
