$250 worth of shaky pictures that may be Bigfoot.

by SpookyMonkey , Apr 24 '08
Pros: Compact camera with a lot of shooting functions. Ready to use out of box.
Cons: Not glove-box resistant and unable to capture Bigfoot's image.
Boy, someone's going to have your behind for this review. Well sometimes you do things because you love someone. Sometimes you do things because you want them to know the truth. And sometimes you do things because you're pretty sure they don't ...

Great point and shoot digital

by dcewolf , Aug 15 '07
Pros: Large display, compact, great picture quality
Cons: Flimsy door on memory stick / battery compartment
A couple of years ago my office purchased a DSC-N1 which turned out to be a fabulous camera. My wife and I decided we should finally get a digital point and shoot so we didn't have to carry around our bulky Minolta SLR. The new DSC-N2 was out of our ...

Give me a Sony every time.

by RockyBug , May 01 '09
Pros: The wide view screen on the back is excellent.
Cons: The technical support is far from user friendly.
I was looking a camera to replace one that my daughter dropped into Baltimore Harbor.  I looked at several small cameras but decided on the Sony mainly due to the Memory Sticks.  My old camera was a Sony also and I had several Memory Sticks ...

Better than average camera FOR THE PRICE

by donk455 , Feb 28 '08
Pros: Cost for features, burst picture setting
Cons: Picture quality, exclusive ProDuo storage cards that cant be read used in anything else
For the price I think this is a good camera-- good enough for my amateur needs, but I have serious issues with its picture quality. I got it on sale at Best Buy for $210. I researched CNET and Epinions and both had reviews (albeit not many) with ...

Great camera

by kaka , Dec 15 '07
Pros: light weighted, slim, sleek, good picture quality, vivid color, easy to use
Cons: steady shot doesn't quite work, hard to get sharp pictures in low light condition
If you are a user who is between professional and amateur photographer, you might consider this camera. I love photography but I am not a professional photographer. I do care a lot about picture quality and colors. When I was given a Konica-Minolta p&s ...

Great pictures from a great little camera

by marjpic1 , Jan 18 '08
Pros: Takes great closeups & zoom pictures of distance things like the deer in our backyard.
Cons: I have difficulty reading the words against the silver background of the camera
We got this camera to take close up pictures to use for advertising a booklet that my husband wrote on key conversion for the Guitar, as the camera we had before didn't let us get close enough. While I still love my other camera for some things, we ...

Great Camera as Long as You Never Look at The Pictures

by thetruthte11er , Jul 09 '07
Pros: Cool features, great on screen explanation of features and options, compact design, and view finder
Cons: HORRIBLE PICTURE QUALITY, included battery charger not rapid charger it is another $60, memory stick
We were looking for a smaller digital camera to replace our older and not so compact Canon PowerShot A95 (5.0 MP, 1/1.8" CCD) with similar or perhaps better picture quality. We had been looking at digital cameras for about two months and we were really ...

This camera rocks!
by ianmoticon ,Apr 18 '07
Pros: Great colours, image stabilisation, face recognition.
Cons: A lot of money - would have been nicer for 10 megapixels instead of 8.
This camera is fantastic. The image stabilisation is superb. The face recognition ensures that you snap friends and family at their best possible exposure. The colours are great - as only Sony can.

Nice Features; Small Size; Poor Picture Quality
by rmacatl ,Sep 07 '07
Pros: More features than I need; Rapid-fire mode to take successive pictures is really neat
Cons: Very poor picture quality any low light situations, way worse than my old 2Mp camera
Bought this camera to replace my old Fuji FinePix 2800Zoom which is bigger/bulkier. I was extremely disappointed to find that the picture quality from my new 8 Mp camera was significantly worse than my old 2Mp camera. It is especially bad in low light / indoor settings. ISO mode is a joke ... if you still buy this camera, my advice is to only take pictures in low light when you are very close to your subject (No Zooming) so that the flash can be used. If I had it to do over, I would be willing to get the slightly larger cameras to get the improved picture quality.

Camera was very intuitive to figure out.

Picture quality in outdoor / high light settings is pretty good.

Amazing!
by moss2001 ,Jul 06 '07
Pros: Large Display. Face Recognition. Ease of Menu. Simple to use
Cons: Image Stabilizer a little tricky
Very Easy to use. Even our 4 year old has taken great pictures with it. Could live with out the image stabilizer though, because we have only been able to figure it out in well lit areas.
The menu is simple and easy to understand. It has a sleek design and great display area. It also has a viewfinder, which many small digital cameras are starting to discontinue. This is nice for sunny days when the screen is hard to see (or when you are trying to save on battery).
Did I mention that the size is great too!

Really bad pictures with flash
by urib ,May 20 '08
Pros: Small, large screen, fast cycles between pictures
Cons: Some of the worst photos in all but perfect sunny conditions
I purchased the DSC-W90 as an upgrade to my old DSC-W55. While in day light the pictures are good and the stabilizer works, when used in less than ideal lighting this camera produces some of the worst photos I have ever taken. Taking pictures, side by side with my old W55 was an eye opener. The W55 took vastly better pictures. The W90 produce grainy photos, with inaccurate colors at best while the W55 produced decent and better photos.
I recommend that people stay away from this model, and probably from Cyber-Shot altogether

The worst camera I've ever owned!!!
by hd4me ,Jul 27 '08
Pros: Video, size and battery power. That's it
Cons: Everything else!
Just read the other reviews about this camera. This camera is so hit or miss. I'd say 25% of the picture's that come from this camera are actually printable. If they aren't grainy, they're blury. I bought this camera last November, and ditched it after my picture's started appearing overly saturated. I absolutely hated this camera!!! The only thing it actually did well was video. Listen, I know the price seems right, but, do yourself a favor and DON'T skimp on your memories. I just bought a Cannon SD790 for $80 more and the picture's are perfect. Just read my reviews on that camera.Don't get me wrong. The few picture's that did come out good were very good. Just too far and few in between. Sony, you should be ashamed. But don't worry, I won't give you another chance.

Love this camera
by kimdvm ,Nov 15 '07
Pros: Auto focus Quick time to next pic; even with flash Lightweight Long battery life
Cons: none
I have found this camera easy to use since I bought it, and am happy with the pics it produces. We also bought the marine case and use it scuba diving (of course usual light limitations limit the quality at depth, but I am not serious enough about underwater photography to buy a strobe).

This is the smallest digital I have had, yet the screen is still a generous size. This is a camera lightweight enough that I am finally happy carrying my camera in a tiny case on my belt rather than a case with a shoulder strap.

I decided to write this review because I went on vacation, forgot the battery charger, and was so impressed that the battery lasted a full 10 days through hundreds of pictures. (I didn't waste battery editing any pics, but I did use a little to dump the pics to the laptop, and then delete them from the camera). While I don't recommend leaving your charger at home, I can say that you shouldn't have to buy a spare battery for this camera.
