Pros: Inexpensive, excellent picture and sound, features Cons: Less features than TRV120 had, no 8mm/Hi8 playback, no analog passthrough
The Sony DCR-TRV130 is a Digital 8™ camcorder. Which means that you can save money on tapes: Digital 8 camcorders use regular 8mm or Hi-8 tapes instead of MiniDV.
The Sony DCR-TRV130 is not exactly a replacement for...
Pros: Digital8 format, automatic modes for beginning videographers. Cons: Low-resolution CCD limits resolution, no manual focus ring, many more.
Spend more, get less. Not a very catchy slogan but, truth be told, that would accurately describe Sony's new entry-level Digital8 camcorder, the DCR-TRV130. Ostensibly, this 2001 model replaces last year's DCR-TRV120 at the bottom of the Digital8...
Pros: High definition, ease of use, crystal clear optics, great optical zoom, night vision. Cons: Eats tapes quickly, no macro, difficult manual focus, not backwards compatible w/ analog tapes.
The Sony DCR-TRV130 is an attractive camera that is very simple to use. I have owned an older Sony HI8 camera and loved the features of it. The similarities between them swayed my decision to buy the TRV130.
Pros: Excellent picture and sound quality. Very easy to use. Cons: Bulky. B/W viewfinder. No separate charger.
In 2002, why would anyone buy an analog camcorder? While they are a bit cheaper than digital, the price gap is rapidly shrinking. This Sony is an excellent choice for someone who wants an affordable digital camcorder.
Pros: Cheapest sony digital camera, easy to use, still has many options for the lowest line Cons: No software included for computer, no cables to connect to computer.
Unlike some of the other reviews, I would like to comment on the things I find annoying about this camcorder.
First:
When I went into the Sony store to purchase this camcorder, and began talking to the sales men he was very...
Pros: Picture quality, price Cons: A little bit big
I am a first time camcorder user and have wanted to buy a Sony for a long time. To me, two things are utmost important of a camcorder, picture quality and simple sturdy design. Let me get this straight first, TRV130 actually shoots much better pictures...
Pros: Easy to use; good video quality Cons: Bulky for its size; NOT backwards-compatible with analog 8mm
I was very disappointed when I first got the 130. I thought *all* Digital 8s were backwards-compatible to analog 8mm tapes of which I had several year's worth. Previous incarnations of Sony's 1xx series were compatible with analog, but now you have to...
Pros: resolution; all u need from CAMCORDER and cheap; night vision; Cons: could be smaller; manual focus is inconvinient; viewfinder is not adjustable for short sighted;
why TRV130?
I came to it by exclusion. Here's my logic:
1. why digital? I don't want the quality loss during copy or with time. So, analog camcorders may relax, I don't love them :)
2. MinidDV tapes store the same info but they are...

If you are looking for just shooting video and recording it on your VCR (VHS, SVHS), good bargain if you get it below $400 range. Otherwise go for at least DCR-TRV140.
