This cool looking little wonder is indeed a piece of marvel.. it tunes well in the FM and is crisp and clear in sound output making it a favorite for one-man lonely listening. For AM also the reception is great. Since I mostly listen to music on FM, this radio has become my partner whenever i go out for a walk or wait. Must have for everyone because of its price and size..

Pros: Small size, easy to operate (although you won't want to), and decent looks.

After reading all the good reviews, I figured I had to get one. Decent AM performance has been ignored by the manufacturers for too many decades. Well this radio doesn't even qualify as junk. I could get more stations, and much clearer on that little crystal radio I had when I was a kid. There was static and buzzing across the whole AM band. It was totally useless. So what about the FM section? About 5 stations clearly, and 2 of them came in on at least 20 different locations on the dial. If you are intent on throwing away $10.00, just rip up a $10.00 bill and throw it away. If you buy this piece of junk, the same thing will be accomplished - just with a lot more aggravation.

If you want a good radio for a decent price, the Sony ICF-36 will give you a pleasant surprise with it's AM performance.

Pros: Nice looking radio with excellent reception and sound for a pocket-size radio.
Cons: Stops at 1610 kHz on AM. Silver paint wears off around controls easily.

Here is a transistor radio that harkens back to great age of the transistor radio with an added bonus. The bonus is that unlike every pocket transistor radio that has featured both AM and FM, BOTH AM and FM have above average reception capability. The only weakness here is that if you're close to a local FM, the receiver's poor selectivity will cause you to receive that one station up and down most of the dial. Otherwise, you can easily pull in stations from the "distant" to "fringe" range.

A big plus is the above average sound for a speaker this size. Unlike the previous reviewer (who gave this radio high marks), I like the performance of the radio's sound. It's a little softer that Sony's previous offering (ICF-310) and not quite as loud, but a good balance of mid-range sound. You won't get an amp/speaker ratio any better in a box this small. And forget stereo, this is a hand-held model that you use the earphone only when necessary!

I picked up two of these at Sears the other day on the strength of the other reviews I saw here. As others have said, the performance of this little radio is amazing given its price ($9.99 at my local Sears).

I've purchased several very cheap pocket radios over the years, and most of them will draw only local stations, which they spread over half the dial. My most recent disappointment was with a small pocket GE radio, which was dismal.

While this isn't going to win any reception contests against, say, a GE Superadio, it pulled in AM stations from New York, Chicago and New Orleans with no problem from my location in Detroit.

A nice surprise to me was the audio, which I found bright enough to be easily readable but not too tinny. Much better than I expected.

The only real downside is the radio is a bit difficult to tune, as a result of the small dial and thumbwheel. But it stays locked on to a station very well

But that's just a minor quibble; this is a terrific value for $10 or so.
