So-so at best

by tapgrq , Jun 28 '05
Pros: It does make hot coffee, and the carafe keeps it warm for a few hours.
Cons: Messy, difficult to clean, small carafe, and not the coffee doesn't taste that great either.
After having read a few reviews about this coffee maker I decided to get one. I was extremely disapointed. As someone else mentioned, the white model stains badly with normal use. I should have taken that comment a little more seriously. The inside...

Barista Bitter Aroma

by cokerpelli , Sep 27 '02
Pros: The coffee stays warm in the carafe for hours.
Cons: It brews the most bitter cup of coffee ever!
We purchased this machine with much anticipation, as we exclusively use Starbucks coffee at home, and grind it ourselves. Our first batches were terrible, and so we repeatedly "seasoned" the machine according to the instructions. We tried the machine...

Maybe I got a "LEMON"

by hepsibah99 , Sep 06 '02
Pros: Looks great in my newly designed kitchen with stainless steel appliances.
Cons: Doesn't make the coffee as hot as claimed. Doesn't stay hot long enough.
After reading the reviews of others on this website, I bought the Barista Aroma Thermal coffee maker from Starbucks. I felt lucky because I got it on sale for $90. I wish I had returned it right away but I didn't. It doesn't make such piping hot...

Perfect, if you like cold coffee!

by emitchell62000 , Dec 18 '02
Pros: Great looking
Cons: Doesn't keep the coffee hot
Just returned mine--it was such a disappointment! I read the instructions cover to cover. I tried the suggestions in the troubleshooting section under "Coffee is not hot enough," including pre-heating the carafe (which completely negates the...

This thing is Junk.

by m_kanzler , Nov 14 '06
Pros: It does make decent coffee. Removable tank is a plus, but common.
Cons: Price, reliability, height.
We got this after our old Black & Decker thermal carafe coffee maker started to make a bit of noise (from the old analog clock) and look dingy... after about 18 years of reliable service. The Barista Aroma is overly complex, and was doomed to failure ...

huge disappointment
by heather913 ,Jun 28 '04
Pros: good coffee
Cons: doesn't last
it worked fine for the first year. (too bad the warrenty only covers upto 1year) i have to admit that this coffeemaker makes a great cup of coffee. But,after the 1st year, it simply stopped working. now I have to get a new one. My old Black & Decker coffee maker lasted for several years-until I broke the carafe. The taste wasn't that much different. I just paid $80 more for this machine. just the name...

Good for awhile, then it leaks
by libbycarter ,Sep 21 '04
Pros: makes decent coffee, keeps it warm most of the day
Cons: NOT DURABLE. Thought it would last better given the price. LEAKY MESS!
I liked this coffeemaker for awhile...it makes good coffee and I love the thermal pot...keeps coffee warm all day. I even bought one for my coffee-loving brother. After about 6 months, though, it started to leak. My brother's did the same thing. He was smart and moved on to a new machine, I am still cleaning up a big mess all the time. Searching for a new pot right now!

Best brewer I have had.
by kriskhoury ,Apr 13 '05
Pros: Coffee taste is fantastic, coffee temp. is just right, cleanup is easy.
Cons: Water receptacle could be bigger.
* I get a perfect cup of coffee always. This is a great machine. The thermal carafe is ingenious. The coffee stays hot-warm for hours.

* Timer works perfectly
* Not too many parts
* Clean up is easy, just put a little Oxi-clean in hot water and fill the carafe to the top for about 10 minutes. Soap and rinse thoroughly. The carafe is like brand-new.
* Great coffee temperature. Not too hot.

Worth its price.

NEW 8-cup Barista Aroma model brews "cop" coffee!!
by walkerboh2112 ,Mar 26 '05
Pros: STRONG coffee; over-brewing ready; digital timer; looks great; water filter; excellent carafe design
Cons: Awkward/flimsy swing-out container for grounds; water reservoir must be properly seated
If you're looking for a coffee machine that can over-brew coffee, this is definitely worth a look. I had purposely put in an excess of grounds (8 cups worth according to the markings on the included stainless steel mesh basket- nice) to over-saturate my 6 cups of coffee. Well, because of a flaw (or "feature") in the brewer, it only sucked 4 cups through the brew cycle- leaving 2 cups in the reservoir. While this was obviously a defect and an unintentional consequence, it does prove that this puppy puts out water hot enough to suck all the flavor (and caffeine) possible out of a batch of coffee.

I think the 2 cups of H2O left behind in the reservoir was due to my less-than-perfect insertion of the reservoir back into the unit. I tried a batch later and it was good to the last drop, pulling all 6 cups from the reservoir as intended. I've brewed with and without the included water filter and have concluded that it doesn't affect how much water is pulled from the reservoir.

Slow pouring
by pjwpa2 ,Apr 12 '05
Pros: Looks and brewing cycle
Cons: Pours the coffee much too slowly.
We just bought the Starbucks Aroma Thermal Brewer yesterday, and while we like the style of it our only complaint is that the carafe pours very very slowly which is frustrating. Does anyone else have this problem?

Simply the BEST!!!
by trilateral ,Oct 02 '04
Pros: Fast, Simple Easy to program Looks Great
Cons: Very Trivial
We did a ton of researh before we bought this coffee maker. WE got it on sale at Starbucks for 119.00 CDN.
We have no complaints, we make about 4-6 cups a day, we set the timer which is so simple and wake up to hot coffee. The minor quibbles that we do have are those little plastic feet stick to our counter whenever we move the coffee maker(Solution glue them in.) And only once did we have coffee wind up on the counter but that was due to the filter door not being closed properly. We got the permanent filter, we rinse out the carffe and filter arter each use. Thats all. We have had no stains and no muck build up.
The SS carffe is great we put it on the table in the morning and is cool to the touch. Some reviewers have stated the coffee stays hot for several hours, this we found not to be true an hour or two at the most (we like our coffee HOT) But it only takes about 2 minutes to make another cup.

Just buy it and enjoy.

Love it most of the time!
by geminigal ,Nov 19 '04
Pros: Great looks, lasts longer than all others that I have had.
Cons: Problems with leaking and coffee not quite hot enough for my tastes.
I received this coffee maker two years ago for Christmas. I first wanted it for its looks and the fact that I was tired of all the other coffee makers braking so quickly. My brother happened to work at Starbucks at the time and was able to get a great deal while they were on sale, so the price wasn't a huge issue. The first one we got leaked everywhere and I double checked it to make sure I was doing everything correctly. Starbucks exchanged it with no problems. The second one has lasted us until now and makes great coffee. We bought a stainless filter since I hate wasting all those paper filters and I swear the coffee tastes even better. The only problems that I have encountered is that the water tank is leaking a little now, but is only a problem from sink to coffee maker. It just dribbles a small amount. I also wish the coffee was a little hotter. I put a lot of "stuff" in my coffee so it cools down and when I go back to refill I sometimes have to nuke it to warm it up.

Barista Aroma Grande - Not Hot Enoungh!!
by mg4cana ,Dec 29 '04
Pros: Solid looking and good flavour
Cons: Not nearly hot enough and hard to clean.
We bought this unit thinking it would be the end-all for our search for the ultimate in a good coffee machine. Wrong!! It has ended up providing a mildly hot to luke warm cup of coffee each time it has been used. We like to keep our house cool at night so we thought that might be the reason we couldn't get hot coffee out of this thing. However, even heating up the caraffe before making the coffee has only helped a little. The advertised benefit of the caraffe keeping the coffee hot has definitely not worked for us either. The coffee flavour has been good but our issue is with the temperature. Also, this unit is cumbersome and hard to keep clean.

Finally, we complained to the Starbuck store where we bought it. The Manager there told us that they cannot take the item back once the item has been used. Our next step is to go through their customer service at the phone number provided. We feel strongly that this product's performance is very far from what is advertised by Starbucks. In the meantime, its back to our good old reliable Braun.

Best EVER!
by marjdare ,Oct 06 '05
Pros: Makes Great Coffee, Keeps it hot and is easy to use.
Cons: The Carafe could be easier to clean.
I tried 3 or 4 different brands thermal coffee makers - there were problems with all but my Starbuck's... leaks mostly. Now I am replacing my mothers and she wants one just like mine. It is so easy, keeps coffee hot all day - even tastes good the next day - and I don't do that! I found mine on sale for about $80, display model I think - doesn't bother me a bit - 9 months of great coffee every day and still going strong!

Good for a while... then starts to LEAK
by mav12345678 ,Jul 12 '05
Pros: Stays hot for 3 hours
Cons: The older model was better
After using it for 4 months, it started to leak. Brews good tasting coffee, but the carafe flows to slowly.
