Pros: good playability, nice sound, ebony fingerboard Cons: not much bass (though more than you'd expect, given the guitar's size and weight)
These days, whenever I play a $300 Yamaha or Takamine at the local guitar store, I want to flee in horror and return to the safety of my home, where my Martin dreadnought and and my little Larrivee LS05 await me. Older Yamahas are great. I've met some ...
Pros: Price, quality construction, good entry level instrument Cons: A little light, almost nonexistent bass tones, very little sustain
The Taylor Big Baby has always been sort of an enigma to me. It's built on a 15/16 scale, which means that it's only slightly smaller than a full scale acoustic guitar, and because of its' size, it has none of the travel and storage advantages of ...
Pros: Inexpensive, compact, great sound, good value Cons: none
I bought my Big Baby on a spur of the moment whim- a songwriter friend who's owned one for a few years spotted it on eBay and telephoned- "if you don't grab it, someone else will" and so I did. It arrived a few days later in mint condition. I'd played ...
Pros: This guitar sounds amazing, the price should be in the $800 mark and up! Cons: SLIGHTLY less bass, but incredible for recording, no real downside! just try one!
I have so much to say about this guitar! First I would like to say that my vintage was damaged so I was looking for a cheap guitar to hold me over for a while until I spent some serious money (I'm broke at the moment haha) I went to the store with my ...
Pros: Great quality, very comfortable, nice clear sound Cons: Smaller than standard, lacks bass and volume
I am just taking up acoustic guitar, so keep in mind as you read this that most of my knowledge comes from talking with more experienced players, or from reading copious amounts of information about different models. I just went through a very highly ...
Pros: Unbelievable sound for the price. Great factory setup, amazing guitar. Cons: Absolutely NO frills on this guitar. Not necessarily a bad thing, but still...
I'll never forget the day I bought my Taylor Big Baby. It was a slow day at work, so a jam buddy and I took a long lunch break and headed down to the local Guitar Center to "just look" at guitars. I had absolutely no intention of purchasing anything....
Pros: Sound Quality, Action, Portability, Price. Cons: None at this price point.
What can I say that hasn't already been said about this fine little guitar? It's not quite a 314 or 414 but it actually has some distinctive tonal advantages not found on it's fullsize counterparts. Combine a Big Baby with a full size quality acoustic ...
Pros: Light-weight, unbelievable sound and playability, cute appearance. Cons: Can't think of any.
I bought a Taylor Big Baby a few weeks ago at Guitar Center, mainly to replace my other guitar that had been stolen while I was out on the road (occupational hazard). I couldn't believe the sound or the action. I bought it, not expecting that it would...
Pros: Sweet, bright Taylor sound. Close your eyes and pretend it's a higher end Taylor. Cons: Limited bass response and lightweight construction
I'm a fan of Taylor guitars. The neck feels just right and the brightness and sustain still give me chills. But I'm scared to take my guitar out of the house. No dings, no damage from being outside the womb that is the humidified bombproof Taylor ...
Pros: Low action, easy to play, thin neck, affordable Cons: none
I've had my Big Baby for about 4 months. I am just a beginner so I wanted to get something that was easy to play. I can't play all the chords I want to on the other guitars I've played. I was really having a difficult time with one chord in...
Pros: Sounds great, feels better. Easy to play Cons: Not too fancy to look at
First off, I'm a beginner, so take that into consideration. I started off with a Johnson guitar, that I paid about $100 for. I was struggling with it, but I didn't want to start off with an expensive guitar, if I wasn't sure I would stick with it. ...
Pros: Beautiful sound. Light. Good action. Cons: delicate.
This review is actually a long time in coming. I bought my Big Baby about 5 years ago. It was $350 and came with a gig bag. I picked it up from guitar center because it has such a bright and full sound. I thought it sounded just as good, if not better, ...
Pros: sounds incredible, plays incredible, much better than any of my other guitars Cons: a little light, cant find a hardshell case for it
i have always wanted a taylor guitar...just thought that i couldnt afford one because of the lofty price tags ive seen. then i saw the big baby. had to play it. loved it. bought it. the action is so perfect, the neck is perfect, and the strings are...
Pros: Outstanding value. Better tone qualities than guitars 3 times the cost. Cons: None what-so-ever
This is a basic no frills guitar. For the money this is without question the best there is out there period. I had a few professional guitarists play it for me since I'm just starting back again and they were impressed with its sound, ease of play,...
Taylor Big Baby. Small body acoustic. by dek431 ,Jun 27 '07
Pros: Top class acoustic, great feel, sound and value for any player beginner to pro. Cons: Guitar snobs will discard it as a cheapo. My advice try it you'll be surprised.
I was shopping for an acoustic 2 years ago i wanted a Martin, whilst trying a 0001 i spotted the Big Baby and gave it a try was impressed but salesman promised 0001 would mature better so i bought 0001. Eventually i sold it and got a Martin 00028EC then traded it for a Martin D28. Recently i was back in guitar store 2 weeks ago and spotted Big Baby... again. Had a strum knocked the price down and bought it. That's the background of 2 years to give you an idea of the instruments I'm use to. I still have D28 but she sits in her case most of the time. My big baby has a beautiful sound, not too much bass but you feel the guitar working for you happy to do anything you ask. String spacing is wider than D28 which i prefer. Its a loud guitar for the size and easy to bend notes maybe due to the scale? i dunno. Build quality is superb it doesn't feel or look as cheap as it was. All round top class acoustic. Well done Bob Taylor!!!
Taylor Big Baby guitar for my 15yr old son by azasadny ,Jun 04 '07
Pros: - good value for the money
- nice tone
- great playability Cons: - less bass tone than a full size guitar
My 15 year-old son plays the electric guitar and bass and needed an acoustic guitar for a class he's taking this summer. His teacher has a Taylor Baby guitar and Dan played it and loved it. We were afraid that the Taylor Baby wouldn't produce enough sound (because of it's small size, it's 3/4 scale) and we got him a Taylor Big Baby instead (15/16th scale). We bought the guitar used from a local seller who had it posted on eBay and we paid $200 for the guitar and a Road Runner gig bag. My son's smile was ear-to-ear when he played the guitar and it sounds great and is very easy to play.
I highly recommend this guitar for a new player or for someone who wants the slightly smaller guitar that produces nice sound.
Pros: Great sound, price, and durability good case Cons: it makes most of my other guitars jealous?
One of the best guitars for the money. cool modern construction, great sound, solid instrument. Solid spruce top sounds great. cool laser cut rosette. nice gigbag comes with it. good fretwork and Taylor feel.
Pros: Everything Buy one today at Great Lake Music in Mundelein Il. Cons: not much at all
The guitar is great!!! The sound is great!!! A must for anyone who wants good sound from an acoustic!!! I got mine from great lake music where I got lots of support. The guitar is great because the body is a little bit smaller than most acoustic guitars. The sound is so crisp!! Now taylor guitars have what an acoustic guitars souns should sound like!!!
Pros: Price.
Quality.
Tone.
Action.
All first class...... especially for the money ! Cons: Not really any cons, I recommend this little guitar.
After many years of not picking up a guitar, I started getting the urge to play again. It didn't hurt that my daughter was given her first guitar for Christmas and it spirited my desire.
I scoped every guitar at the local guitar stores and pawn shops and didn't really know what to buy. I heard the Big Baby was a nice sounding and playing guitar for the money, but I couldn't find one to play. Sooooo..... I started looking all over the internet for a deal on one. Long story even longer, I found one and ordered it.
When the little gem arrived, I took it to my local guitar guru and had him put new strings on it and "set" it up. Best move I could have made. This little beast played better than any guitar I have ever owned. It's just awesome for the dollar. It is well worth the money.
I totally recommend the Taylor Big Baby.... beginner or advanced player.
Great Guitar awesome quality by afog91 ,Nov 28 '03
Pros: Sound. Appearance. Playability. Anything you name it! Cons: No pickups.
Taylor guitars have good quality no matter what. When your shopping for Taylors you know what you're going to get it going to be worth it.
I got the Taylor Big Baby. Although it is a little pricey for a lower end acoustic it plays great! The sound coming out of it is--- just awesome.relaxing.fantastic.good quality. Whatever you want out of this guitar you got it-- except one thing. You can't plug in. But you know that is the one thing you have to sacrifice for this great guitar. It is also helpful if you're a smaller person because it is a lot smaller than other guitars.
Pros: Excellent playability
Great Clarity
Very Light Cons: None...except wish there was a pickup
I bought my Big Baby today and wow was I surprised. I have a Martin DCXME Dreadnought Cutaway which I learned to play left-handed on a right-handed guitar. I have been making the switch to left-handed guitars now. I wanted something a little smaller and lighter. I saw it on the rack and saw the name "Taylor" and thought what the heck. I played it and was amazed at the clarity of the sound, the action was great, and it seemed to stay in tune well.
The i notice the price tag....Holy Heck!!!...I had to have it!!...brought it home and have been playing my afternoon away as the Martin sits there seemingly jealous.
This is a great guitar for the price!!!! ...I would recommend it to all players who want the quality of Taylor, but don't have the cash to shell out for the bigger boys.
The Taylor Big Baby Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar gives you great quality for a respectable price. Great tone from a solid Sitka spruce top is given pro...More at Guitar Center
