Pros: Players with a slice can get a club designed to draw the ball. Cons: Limited control, not great feel.
When it comes to the r5, many people believe that it was released before the original r7. It was in fact slightly later to arrive on the market and it was sort of lost in the shadows of the r7 due to the huge amount of tour players using the r7. Well, I ...
Pros: Good looking, slightly above average Cons: Expensive, poor feel, nothing outstanding
I hit a number of different drivers the past few months as I tried to find the 15 yards that I lost recently. I liked the Taylor Made R7 well enough and found the Ping G2 to be wonderful. One of the other clubs that I spent some time with was the ...
Pros: Forgivness, forgiveness and then some more. Cons: Hard to swing right, no distance, inferior to R580XD.
Once again, we are witnessing a strange case of born-dead-and-revival driver story that is taking weird twisting routes. As the buzz around the R7 became so loud that it deafened the whole industry for a few minutes (so many top PGA Tour players were ...
Pros: Cheaper now that TM has the R7 425 to rip people off with. Cons: The cover is a pain to get on and off.
I used to be a 16 handicap and this club has gotten me down to a 2 (not a typo)! I used to push slice the heck out of the ball - most of the time going two, sometimes three fairways, right of intended fairways. But NOW - my balls come off as a mid to ...
Pros: Hits the ball VERY straight. NV shaft on some. 450cc head. 'D' is great. Cons: Feels heavy and sluggish on contact. Short shaft.
Like the other reviewer, I had a Taylor R580 and could hit the ball fairly far for a 440 head but probably shanked it right 35% of the time. Granted, probably some mechanical errors, but how embarrassing on a tight course when all of a sudden you're ...
Pros: Forgiving and large sweet spot, well made, great distance off the tee, looks great Cons: Doesn't seem suited for low handicap golfers
I had been playing with the R580 with a regular flex shaft for about a year. I began playing golf more frequently and noticed, as I played more, that I was slicing the ball off the tee on a regular basis. I had my swing analyzed and found that I was ...
Pros: Very forgiving Cons: I am still the one behind the club causing problems
I went to a local golf course when they had a demo days. Nike, Ping, Callaway, and Taylor Made were all there as were some others. I tried many drivers from all of these companies. For me I found that I was getting better results from the R7 and R5. ...
Pros: Long, forgiving, straight. Good feel. Cons: Sound of the ball hitting isn't powerful but that doesn't hurt performance.
I felt compelled to write a review after reading hwz1's review as after reading his review I realized he was reviewing the wrong club. He talked about the adjustable screws and a $500 price tag. That's the r7 not the r5! The R5 is not adjustable and ...
Pros: Long, Straight, Forgiving, Best Driver in golf Cons: NOTHING
Recently, I found a dent on the face of my r510, which is hit pretty well, but not great. So I sent it into Taylor Made, and they said they were out of r510's, and I had my choice between the r5 and the r580xd. I had hit the 580xd before, and ...
Hitting it Long and Straight by saelions4 ,Jul 18 '06
Pros: Great feel, Great Driver Cons: A bit expensive.
No gimmicks, no bells, no whistles, the R5 is the real deal. With a huge sweet spot and a great feel and weight, the Taylor Made R5 simplified my golf game. I am about a 12 handicap and I have found that with the R5 in my bag, I can hit many more fairways off the tee than ever before. Also, with such a big sweet spot, you can feel the power when you've hit it square. Great for any golfer!
Pros: Hits far
Hits straight
Good value Cons: None
A few years ago this was a $350 driver. Not it runs around $150 and you can catch it on sale for $99. I guess that's golf for you. If you really think they get $250 better each year then you're better off buying the latest and greatest thing.
I like this driver. My golf game became instantly better after I bought this driver and hit a few buckets of balls with it. I hit straighter and farther with it. I'm happy with my purchase.
Pros: Helps you hit the ball straight or draw the ball. Cons: Large size of the clubhead can visually put you off.
I have been skeptical of "gimmick" clubs, that claim to cure your golf swing ailments - until now. The TaylorMade R5 "Type D" (for Draw) has a slightly closed clubface, that claims to turn your slice into a straight ball, and your straight ball into a draw.
I had the TaylorMade R580 for almost 3 yrs, and while it really helped me gain 20 yards on my drives, I was still prone to a fade or slice. Not wanting to lose the 20 yards I had picked up, I was hesitant to try the new R5. But it kept whispering to me - give me a try - so I did! What can I say - it worked :-) I have played 8 rounds since I got it, and I have only had 2 rounds where I didn't hit it well. the clubhead is enormous 450cc's, which at first put me off. But I put the ball a little further back in my stance, and all is well.
I would highly recommend this club, a worthwhile investment , to never hit another slice again..

Pros: adjustable weighting, more power and distance, and very reliable brand. Cons: Expensive, club head doesn't feel sturdy, and covers don't fit on too well.
The TaylorMade R5 dual driver does give better drives of the tee. A lot of golfers I've seen have TaylorMade drivers and really like them. The best part is that you can adjust the weight of the driver to make it work best for you. It has a great look to it as well.
