Convert Your Old Vinyl 33 RPM Records into CDs...and MP3s

by Ed.Williamson Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Dec 30 '05
Pros: It turns and burns LPs into CDs and then MP3s.
Cons: It costs a lot for the privilege.
I saw the ad for it in a catalogue sent out by a company called firstSTREET: a machine that burns CDs from your old vinyl records. It looked too good to be true. You see, I came from the 60s--- more-or-less, the days of Buddy Holly, Elvis, The Beach ...

The easy way to record your old vinyl

by Windowphobe , Jul 31 '05
Pros: Very easy to learn, decent fidelity, not too pricey
Cons: Falls short of the highest possible sound quality, the usual digital-rights-management annoyances
It's no particular trick for a computer geek who started out as an audio geek to record old LPs and 45s to CD. But the vast majority of us aren't geeks of either variety, which is why there ought to be a tremendous market for the Teac GF-350. The ...

Exactly what we've been waiting for!!!

by dlbley , Sep 05 '07
Pros: Very easy to use!!
Cons: Cost, plus required music digital audio disks are more expensive than plain CDR disks.
I have a very large collection of vinyl from the late 70s and early 80s, many of which are no longer commercially available. I've recorded several onto CD already using this machine. My goal is to get it done quickly, although I understand there is ...

This unit is so simple that even I can operate it!

by cdadave , Jun 30 '06
Pros: Easy to operate; great sound quality; a great investment.
Cons: I wish the speakers were a bit bigger, but that's it. It's a great unit.
It seems I learn everything slowly and painfully. I love computers, but all of that tekkie-talk just makes my eyes glaze over. Whilst surfing the net one nite, I ran across an ad for the Teac GF-350. And I thot, "what a cool concept." So I found one; I ...

Very Disappointing

by gjurgem , May 04 '09
Pros: Compact, Good manuals, Easy set-up
Cons: REALLY POOR SOUND REPRODUCTION, Requires copy protected recording media, Poor value for the cost.
I have hundreds of old LP's from the 60's, 70's and 80's that I can no longer use in my home sound system.  My wife bought this equipment as a gift so I could save the classics from years of collecting. The equipment works well although the ...

This one met my expectations!
by squeege98 ,May 27 '06
Pros: Does exactly what it is supposed to do.
Cons: None yet.
This unit does exactly what I wanted it to do and performs exactly as promised in the literature. I have a lot of LPs and am copying them onto CD. It works very well. The CD recorder is very particular about the type of blank CD to use. It must be one specified especially for recording music. It loses a little sound quality if you use a re-writable CD, but I recommend that you use those. It is easy to make a human error or have an LP that skips. The recorder has an erase button so that you can start over.

I haven't yet found anything that I do not like about it.

GF-350 COMPUPLUS.COM $269.98 + SH
by isdn ,Feb 23 '07
Pros: Good recording quality..easy to use..worth every penny..
Cons: write protect feature sucks...and not able to copy direct from radio
I purchased GF-350 with Compuplus.com for $269.98 plus $12.00 SH. I owned Teac's reel to reel/ and also some Akai's back in the 60's and 70's. These companies were the forerunners in the audio recording industry. I've always had one or the other unit as my main vedio/audio recorder.
This unit has almost near studio recording qualities and I've recorded LP's, cassettes, radio, other pre recorded cd's, with very good results. It beats the hell out of using a computer. I use Nero software in my pc to convert the cd audio files..then I can convert to mp3 if I need to copy additional cd's. The write protect feature can be override this way. You do need digial audio blank cd's..I use Sony 50 pack for $15 at Walmart. Pc cd's will not work.
Its because of the copy protect feature.

Best way to record
by rcordato ,Sep 24 '06
Pros: Very easy to use. Great sound using the method mentioned above.
Cons: Too expensive given the quality experienced using the internal turntable.
At first I was disappointed. Going from the turntable that is internal to the unit produced CDs that were very thin sounding. Then I started recording using my own turntable, running a line from the headphone jack on my stereo's amp. Wow!! what a difference. The quality is great with a full, rich bottom. I think most people will be very satisfied with the final product if thy use this method.

Serial Copy Management System Problems
by qaz111111 ,Dec 11 '06
Pros: Looks like an easy way to get music from records to CDs...wrong
Cons: Serial Copy Management System prevents really useful copying and limits copying to that one CD.
IF the GF-350 won't allow a copy to be replicated then the copy is a dead end and not a real backup of your original vinyl. This means the backup is play only, never record from it. So you can not put it on your ipod, or computer. This is a huge limitation... a real deal killer. Furthermore the GF-350 looks for the ytpe of CD disk you use and genric may not work. THis is intolerable. If you have to buy digital music CD's, that hve a royalty prepaid, then the cost becomes prohibitive and un-useable.
What seemed to be a good product for copying music you already bought to a different medium turns out to be a really expensive dissapointment. I wanted to buy it for my wife to get her old records on to her ipod (that she can't use without repurchasing the music or using her records) but this won't do it. Grrrrrrrr...... And you know they don't even tell you up front....

Transcribe LPs and tapes to CD discs with reliable easily operated equipment
by normanalton ,Jul 28 '07
Pros: Reliability, ease of use, and fidelity.
Cons: Automatic tracking is not effective. Audio is restricted to two built-in speakers.
This is a complete stereo designed to put LPs and tapes onto CD discs. The latter must be "Digital Audio". The fidelity is good, and the system is foolproof. The only weakness is in the automatic track numbering system. I found it necessary to do it manually if I wanted each track on an LP side to register. Otherwise the automatic system worked only when I changed record sides.

One volume control determines the intensity of recording onto the disc. The other volume control determines how much you hear as you do the transcription. Incidentally, the system can be used as a regular stereo.

I would suggest a more capable track numbering system, and, the ability to connect the audio stereo output to an external speaker system.

*NOT* worth the $ !
by varambler ,Aug 26 '06
Pros: ABSOLUTELY NONE! Nothing nada ziltch. no pas. zero. NO REDEEMING QUALITIES
Cons: SEE ABOVE, DOES NOT ALLOW RIPPING OF YOUR RECORDS TO DIGITAL FORMAT
any system that will not allow you to 'rip' *your* own records, after you've paid for them, is not worth the expense. Other systems, for MUCH cheaper $ will allow you to burn your records onto a Cd and then allow you to convert that into a digital music file.

*DO NOT BUY THIS SYSTEM*
