Pros: Light reading, entertaining story, likable characters. Cons: some of the situations are somewhat hard to believe.
This book was loaned to me by a friend of mine. I happened to pick it up and read it when she left it on her desk one day. I just picked it up and read about 3 pages beginning where she was at (around page 34) and found I was immediately caught up in it. ...

Pros: Fast read, likable main character Cons: Abrupt ending
I am a fan of Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic series, so when I picked up a book by her that didn't feature Becky Brandon, I was unsure of what to expect. It turns out I was pleasantly surprised with The Undomestic Goddess. Although I was ...

Pros: new character, completely different plot line Cons: obvious ending, unbelievable storyline
I have been a faithful reader of the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. I enjoyed them but the whole "ditzy irresponsible girl" routine wore thin over the course of 4 novels. After the last one, "Shopaholic & Sister" I vowed never to read another ...

Pros: Wonderful story, vivid descriptions, lively characters. Great read for an idyllic afternoon. Cons: None, really.
Although I am a fan of Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic series, I must admit from time to time her Shopaholic characters irritate and annoy me. I understand it is fiction, and I understand the characters' personalities are deliberately extreme to move along ...

Pros: Very light, cute story Cons: none really
I tend to find an author and read all of his/her books one after another. I had recently finished reading everything that one author had available, so I remembered someone talking about Sophie Kinsella. I went to the library and they had a couple of ...

A let down...
by macendan ,Sep 05 '05
Pros: Easy read. Cons: Unbelievable character.
I read this book with much anticipation (how many times have we all thought how nice it would be to walk away from our current stresses, whatever they are and start over). I happen to work in a law firm and also thought that I could relate to the book from that angle. However, it was hard for me to believe that anyone could be as inept as the main character was at basic living skills (i.e., cooking, cleaning, etc.) and have passed the bar exam to be a lawyer. If the writer had perhaps focused on how much more difficult it was balancing all the domestic demands and not made the character to be a complete idiot when it came to household basics it would have been a little more believable and easier to read. I did, however, enjoy the basic "plot" of the story. Nice little romance (which was to be expected and kept the book moving along). I didn't dislike this book, but it wasn't one that I found hard to put down either. Definitely not one that I wanted to pass on to someone else to read.
