Pros: Convenient, inexpensive, good quality Cons: Boots up slower than most, random play clumsy, large
Toshiba has been in the forefront of DVD technology since day one. My first DVD player 5 years ago was a Toshiba and it served well, in fact it's still working just fine at a friend's house ever since I purchased the newer (and a lot cheaper)...
Pros: Good sound and picture reproduction, good feature list Cons: Slower than your grandmother, no random playback for MP3s, no random playback of JPEG pictures
I used to be a Toshiba fanatic, but this is the third disappointing Toshiba product I've purchased over the past 3 years. I'm not buying any more.
Overall, this is a good DVD player. It plays DVDs, DVD-R, CD-R, CD-RW, JPEG (pictures), and MP3....
Pros: Great picture quality and sound Cons: slow, big, no random play for all disks
We don't watch tons of movies - or 4 year old watches more than we do. And we don't have a big screen TV, so I did not want to spend a lot on a DVD player. Got this one for $100 and it is worth what we paid.
Pros: Easy to use, performs as expected. Cons: No MP3 random play, slow disc mounting, below average documentation.
After two full years of moderately busy operation, I have found this product to be a good value for 2002. I wish it did more with MP3, but it was a VERY good deal at the time. I would probably look elsewhere in the future. SPEED OF OPERATION The only ...
Pros: Good DVD and VCD picture quality Cons: Very bulky, MP3 CDs are limited to 650MB
I bought this changer because it was on sale in Amazon.com for $99 only. As soon as I received it, I realized that it is so big that it would not fit on any shelf in my entertainment center. I still managed to connect it, to verify functionality. Picture...
The versatility of this DVD player makes it an attractive choice. The ability to play audio CDs as well as CD-Rs with MP3 music makes it very handy for parties. Tap it into random shuffle mode and off you go. Just be sure to press the Repeat button once...
Pros: Price, audio outputs for TV and amplifier, optical and coax digital, simultaneous video out Cons: slow to cue on CD's, Disc skip stops Play, scan on CD/DVD is choppy
I have an older rear projection TV with S video inputs. It will be a while before I upgrade to HDTV; so the lack of progressive scan doesn't bother me. The DVD functions are great. I bought this unit to upgrade my older Sony 5 disc CD changer, and after...
I just received my second defective SD-2805 with the exact same problem with the picture. the DVD menu is fine but as soon as I play any DVD the picture goes from clear and crisp to distorted and crappy and back to clear then back to crappy... the cycle...
Pros: Great CD sound
Reliable so far
Plays mp3 discs etc
Picture quality seems fine Cons: Lame remote
No inter-disc shuffle
Slow to load
... Or at least it was at the time ... like others bought this unit in the fall of 2002--paid $140 at Best Buy, which at the time was a good deal (6 mos before DVD player prices collapsed). Figure on keeping it for playing CDs as the audio fidelity is excellent. Haven't had any trouble with it. If you can get one of these for a song, you'll be doing ok imho.
Pros: It is cheap Cons: It is cheap - only lasted a bit over a year.
I purchased this DVD player in November 2002 for a good price - $99 on Amazon. At the time it had good reviews. In the last month - approximately 1 year after purchase - it no longer works. It will not play a DVD or CD, the door keeps opening and it just can not be used. After checking Amazon once more I see that this is a common problem after only 1 year. While I think the price is good, I would still expect the product to last more than 1 year. I would say the player was used maybe a couple of times a week, some weeks it was not used at all. I would not buy another Toshiba product because of this experience.
Good sound and video, I am less satisfied with the user contols and options. The default play mode of this changer plays only the currently selected disk. You must hit the repeat button three times to play all cds in the tray. For random play, the first touch of the random button plays only the current cd. You must hit the random play 3 times for the SD2805 to play all cds but no clues are provided that you have entered this mode. The MP3 capability is less than ideal. The default plays MP3s in alphabetical order, not the order recorded on the disk. Player only displays 8 characters of the file name, so to program the MP3 play order is nearly impossible. I also find that not all .MP3 files on a CD-R will play.
