The progressive scan DVD players are getting cheaper and have more features. The Toshiba SD3750 is a progressive scan DVD player with DVD-R, CD-R and CD-RW playback that also plays MP3 files, VCD and CD-Audio.
Pros: low cost, Progressive Scan, CD-R/CD-RW compatible, playback, other features Cons: standard toshiba remote, somewhat difficult MP3 playback.
I bought this model from a local Best Buy around Father's Day 2001... yes, a present for my dad. It cost about $199 at the time and with my American Express Blue card, I pricematched it to $159. An excellent price for this feature rich player.

Pros: Feature-laden, with outstanding performance at a low price. Cons: Has a small-buttoned, cluttered, unlit, and cheapish remote.
This is the last review of my three piece, all-Toshiba HDTV system purchase. After living with the SD-3750 for about three weeks, I felt that I was familiar enough with the product to write a review.
Pros: everything is great Cons: nothing is bad, at least not yet
This is one of those DVD players that takes a while to discover, but once you find it, you will be extremely amazed. For the price, it doesn't look like it can do very much, but that's why its such a great deal. The Toshiba SD3750 is a DVD player that I...
Pros: progressive scan, mp3 play, optical and coaxial digital out. Dolby DTS/5.1 out Cons: mp3 GUI not so hot
I originally had a Daewoo 3000 DVD player that I bought on Amazon.com for $95. After seeing some negative reviews and noting that the A/V sync was messed up and the zoom function didn't work quite so well, i decided to return it.
Pros: Great Playback, Multiple Inputs, Great Picture Cons: Small button, cramped remote
I just recently purchased this DVD player from a local store. I was originally going to purchase a less expensive player, however when I saw this model with progressive scan, I jumped at it.
Set up was a snap, probably made much easier by the...
Pros: Good quality, works well, and affordable. Cons: Dull look, does not attract attention.
My wife bought this for me as a surprise, and it has been great so far. It has caused me no trouble. I enjoy it because it is easy to use, and has good quality picture, and sound. Although it does not scream "style", it is a nice addition to any...
Pros: The best picture quality for your home. Cons: You need to buy a new collection of movies on DVD.
This is the best DVD player that you can buy for the cheapest price. Most DVD players will cost you more than this one but the quality will not be much better. This DVD player will match almost every DVD player out there. It has a S Video input and a...
Pros: easy to read display panel. Cons:playback hang. Poor button layout on remote.
I own one of these (purchased in 2001) and unfortunately have recently had issues with the playback stopping and not proceeding. No combination of button presses can make it go forward. It seems to have a hard time with very lightly scratched or smudged DVDs, like those from the rental store. Some DVDs I own without scratches or finger smudges hang it up as well. I spent a day or so on the phone with Toshiba tech svc, discussing this issue. It was determined that a firmware upgrade was necessary. Glitches and playback hangs still occur after firmware upgrade to 2.4 so I'm looking for another DVD player, not Toshiba.... I did notice that the ghost images in the background of post box display black screen areas went away after the firmware upgrade.
Mixed messages about using a cleaning disk. Toshiba says use it, the local certified service tech says never use one...
I've seen good ratings for Toshiba in general in Consumer reports, this one must be an exception.

I'm very disappointed in the poor quality of MP3 playback. The best way to describe the sound is to imagine the sound of two havles of a coconut being hit together on every beat of the song you're listening to. It's just unbearable.
I have also discovered that the player can only play the first session of a CD-R disk, so make sure you put all of the songs on the disk at once otherwise you can't play them on this machine.
This is my second one. I took the first back to Future Shop (Canada) with only a day or two left before I couldn't return it any longer. I figured it had to be a bad machine. Nope! The 2nd one does the same thing. It's not my cd's because they don't pop on any other machine I've tried them in.
Video features are excellent so I'm keeping it (it's too late to take back - AGAIN). If you want a good MP3 player DO NOT CONSIDER THIS MODEL. Trust me!
