Pros: Durable, dependable, lightweight, low maintenance, size and cost Cons: Weight, size and no reverse. Jumps a bit in harder soil.
The Troy Bilt 3HP Tuffy is one convenient tiller. Shortly after buying my house, almost two years ago now, I bought my tiller. How pleased I am with its performance. The Gardeners of Eden never had it as easy as this tiller makes mine. Lightweight this...
Pros: Light weight, tills OK in sandy soil, enough power for small gardens, and cheap. Cons: Forward drive only, difficult to service drive belt, must reverse tires to free-wheel, and cheap!
I purchased the tiller at Lowe's and on the third use the nuts to three of the four bolts holding the motor on the frame vibrated loose. The tiller motor literally spun off the frame and was held by one bolt when making a turn at the end of a row. ...
Pros: rugged, warranty, good mechanical design overall Cons: no reverse
I decided to purchase a tiller a couple of years ago after I discovered I had an interest in gardening and landscaping. Up until that point, the wife did all that type of work and I kept telling her that a tiller was not necessary and that everything...
Pros: Self-propelled, rear tines make it easy on the body and hands, and Troy-Bilt reliability. Cons: Forward rotating tines cause the tiller to run away in hard ground.
I live in Fayetteville, NC and I needed a small tiller for my small garden. Lowe's had a Tuffy rear-tine tiller on sale for $299.00. This particular tiller had a 4-hp Briggs and Stratton engine. It still carried the Troy-Bilt Tuffy nametag, that is ...
Pros: Durable, lightweight, hard working Cons: none
There's one thing about the South that most every potential gardener has discovered - red clay. The drought over the past two years has demonstrated how to make bricks out of clay - just look at the cracked earth.
Pros: maneuverability; starting; quality Cons: not a sod buster; small for big jobs
I bought this tiller (Troy Bilt Tuffy 3.5 hp) because I needed a tiller badly, didn't want to spend a lot, and have lots of small beds to work on besides a full garden. There weren't many competitors below the $499 price, and the Troy Bilt name is great,...
Pros: None - it never tilled for me Cons: Never started, need I say more?
I purchased this rototiller after several people raved about it's ease of use and tilling performance. Those may be true but I was never able to get it's Briggs and Stratton engine to run long enough to try it out. The first tiller had a faulty pull cord. After a couple of attempts at starting, the cord simply had no resistance. Returned and store located a new one. I refused repair..after all, why should I pay full price for used machine. Second machine did start briefly but then wouldn't stay running long enough to engage the tiller.
Returned to store and they couldn't start it either. I got my money back and still shopping.
Pros: Easy to start Cons: Dangerous piece of equipment
I bought this tiller because the advertising bragged about the ease of use. What a big mistake. This tiller is the most difficult to use piece of garden equipment I have ever owned. I is almost impossible to control its direction, it has a very strong tendency to run away, almost dragging me behind it. The owners manual states it is controllable with one hand. This is not so, as it almost takes two people to control it. Adjusting the depth control does not help for as soon as the tines make contact with the ground it takes off. In short, this tiller scares me more than a drunk with a shotgun. I can not and will not recommend this tiller to anyone.
