Udate after one year: 2007 editors choices include the larger model as one of the best deals available. For the price this may be right, but the 20" Vizio compares marginally with more expensive models I have seen. I think the operative term here is ...

The terms "widescreen" and "20-inch" tend to collide in the mind, but if you can accept the idea of a small-screen set that has a fair amount of big-screen performance, this may be your HD TV, at least as a secondary unit. As delivered, the picture was almost perfect; I spent very little time tweaking it. The local HD signals in 1080i (this set won't do 1080p) look just fine, and digital artifacts have been conspicuous by their absence. A lot of inputs are available, though you can't use both component and composite at the same time - they share the same audio inputs - and I haven't tried the HDMI connection since I don't have any other HDMI-compatible equipment. But my six-year-old DVD player through S-Video looks great. Sound, from a pair of 3-watt speakers, is just acceptable, though I suspect most people will feed it to external audio components. This is Vizio's smallest set: it's good enough to make me consider one of their larger ones for my living room.

Vizio's slogan is something like... "Where Vision meets value". That is a very good claim for them. I have 2 Vizios (a 20" and a 37") plus a Panasonic 32". Both Vizios have been good purchases for the money spent. The sound is a bit thin and fast moving images tend to "pixilated" a bit but I would recommend Vizio products for those who are buying on a budget.

After looking for a low cost HDTV I decided to buy the Vizio VX20L which not only looks great but also has a price of around $350 . The TV Has every connection you might want including HDMI, Component, S-Video, composite and a way to hook it to your pc and use it as a monitor. Image quality is what you would expect with a high quality HDTV With capabilty of PIP and controls for color control, brightness, contrast and sharpness. There is also a headphone jack on the side for those who don't want to bother others in the room.
Really a great choice for anyone looking for a small HDTV at a great price.

Cons: A main board failure is a huge problem. Vizio quality control must be substandard.

I bought the Vizio VX20L in approximately 4/07 at Costco with my Costco rebate check. There were no problems in that first year. By 7/08 the screen was going bad. The picture was obliterated by dark color patches around the moving images. The repairman said a main board was bad, and the cost of repair would exceed the purchase price. There was a one-year warranty, which doesn't cover the time frame that the TV failed. I wouldn't trust Vizio after this experience.
