Pros: Reliability. Ruggedness Cons: Unsafe cornering, small interior
Hey Samurai critics..read on. Unsafe around corners..definitely. No pick up or top end speed..definitely.
Now let's look at the Samurai's strong points. I have a 1988 soft top with an odometer reading of 146,313. I bought it used in 1994 for...

Pros: Durable, safe, inexpensive Cons: none within it's control that I can think of
I have hesitated to do a review on the Suzuki Samurai, just because I wasn't happy with ours long term (I'll explain that in a moment). But I watched a news program the other night that discussed Consumer Reports extremely low rating of this vehicle and...

Pros: Affordable, & in our case, a very long life Cons: None
My wife and I bought our little red Suzuki Samurai new in the winter months of 1988. We wanted to buy a real JEEP, but the Samurai, then quite new on the market, was much more in our price range. We lived in rural PA at the time, with hills and winter...

Pros: FUN! Inexpensive to drive and maintain. Cons: Underpowered in certain highway situations
Two years ago, my wife and I were looking for an inexpensive work vehicle. I never would have considered purchasing a Samurai, but we came across a very well-maintained 1988 model. It had 75,000 miles on it and had obviously been garaged all of its 10...

Pros: Small, nimble, rugged, inexpensive Cons: Underpowered for interstate highway use
The Suzuki Samurai is a capable, highly modifiable little 4WD truck that can take you almost anywhere you can think of going and it can do it without making you poor.
While just about everyone has an SUV model on the market now, Suzuki's...

Pros: none Cons: none
In October of 1999 I was looking for my first car and had little cash and I came across a Samurai. It was in EXCELLENT shape with absolutely nothing wrong with it. Interior nice with a stereo but mine didn't have A/C. The price was only $1000 so I...

Pros: Durability, MPG and Reliability Cons: A bit of a rough ride - try and find air shocks for it.
Love this thing - Had it about 1 year - using Michelin 'X-ICE' tires for the winter. Last winter they worked very well.
22 to 27 MPG on a 1988 carburetter. I have approx. 148,000 miles on it - Expect at least 70K more.
I bought this right before the price of fuel hit $2.00/gal.
for $1,250. I have been asked if I would sell it for $3,000 - the answer is no. If you need to get there & back. This will do it (with the right maintenance - of course) Not as fast as everyone else - but that is ok.
I always get there. 65MPH is about the best cruising speed. I have had it up to 77 MPH but that is about terminal velocity for the sammy.
I plan to get a 1.6 liter engine from a newer (wrecked) swift and install it when this one dies.
It has a true frame and plenty of guts.
Good luck and have a great day!
