Pros: Cheap, adequate performance Cons: Mechanical Problems
I purchased a used 1996 Cavalier over a year ago for $9750 CDN or $6500 USD. It is a 2 door coupe with 5 speed. The car has had its share of mechanical problems in the form of check engine / ABS lights coming on. So far I have had to replace some kind...

Pros: none Cons: everything
This car is total junk. The saftey rating are hideous, the thing has constant problems, and if I could, I'd burn it to the ground. This car is a goner as soon as I'm able to get rid of it. With every passing mile, it makes more and more racket. The trunk...

Pros: Sound System Cons: Engine, Interior, Electrical
Two months ago I traded in my 1996 Chevy Cavalier. Thank God!
It cost us thousands to get out of that mess......let's see, where do I begin?
The car only had 37,000 miles on it. (note the warranty ran out at 36,000) From the start...

Pros: Pretty car and large enough for full sized man.Stayed at the junk yard. Cons: That I purchaced this car.Everything kept breaking down.Brakes, shocks, engine, rough ride. The Bottom Line: I would never recommend this car. It ran well for short time, but no one ever knew what was wrong.
Me and my wife actually purchased this car in Oct of 1995. From the very beginning we had problems. After two weeks of ownership, the rack and pinion had to be replaced. The dealership constantly stated there were not problems, but kept getting worse. ...

Pros: Fairly roomy Cons: Numerous mechanical problems
I drive a 1996 Cavalier. I basically chose this car because it was cheap and I heard that it was reliable. I was moving across the country at the time and was between jobs, so needed a car that wasn't going to cost a lot. While my Cavalier was not...

Pros: Excellent gas mileage, decent looks, cheap if you own a repair shop Cons: VERY unreliable, Cheaply designed, too many problems The Bottom Line: get your wallet out and leave it out because you'll need to cover a hole lotta repair costs!
What can i say, i needed a car. Something cheap reliable, and good on gas. After a couple weeks of searching, i ran across a really nice 1996 Chevy Cavalier 2 door and nice red paint. Kinda the car that most 16 year olds want right? Well anyway, it ...

Pros: Hot, sporty, fast Cons: Unreliable
My first mistake was taking a closer look at this affordable sports car.
Within 2 hours of owning the vehicle, all dashboard lights came on and did not go off. The car was taken in and the dealership gave me nothing but the run around for the next...

Pros: Cheap Cons: Everything
This was the worst car I have ever owned! When my Cavalier hit 39,000 my transmission died! Is this normal?? For a Cavalier yes! I put more money into this car that what I bought it for. The car shook, did not want to start in the winter, and took...

Pros: Good gas mileage, nice size. Cons: One of my Cavaliers totally died at 85,000 miles. Flemsy seats, cheap parts on interior. The Bottom Line: I wouldn't call one out of two a good success rate and therefore do not recommend the 96 Cavalier to anyone who is looking to buy a used car.
In 1996 my mother bought a new Cavalier. It was a great car and she seemed very happy with it, so the next year when I needed to buy a car, I bought the 96 Cavalier as well. Mine was a program car and had 15,000 miles on it at the time of purchase. It...

I bought a brand new 96 cavalier coupe back in 96 and I wouldn't recommend it. My sister has a 96 cavalier LS and my friend has a 95 z24 so I know a lot about these cars. They both had similar problems with their cavaliers. I feel bad because they...

Pros: Reliable, cheap to operate, cheap to maintain Cons: Slow, terrible handling, terrible for side impacts
I bought a '96 Cavalier (new). I have about 70,000 miles on it and it has never broken down. It has only required regular maintenance/oil changes. Sure, it's not very sporty. Sure, it handles like a pregnant cow. Sure, it moves as fast as a crippled...
