Pros: SE = more power and amenities Cons: SE = more money to insure/maintain
I had the misfortune and fortune of acquiring a base '97 900S first, and after an accident, a suped up '97 900SE. Simply put, an SE is an S on viagra! All the lack of power questions on the S (a 150 hp 2.3 liter) are answered by the 185hp 2.0 liter...

Pros: Tires Cons: Everything else
I purchased a SAAB 900s hatchback in 1997. After the 2nd month the vehicle made a "groaning" noise from the engine. The SAAB dealers were helpful with the service, however unable to diagnose or fix the problem. The vehicle was in for service...

Pros: Great looks, fun, quality, and quick Cons: hmmm... no turbo?
Hi,
and thanks for choosing to read my review.
I own a 1997 Saab 900 S, 3 door coupe, manual (no turbo).
I purchased this car used from a dealer (Shaw Saab, in Hingham, MA). It had about 48,000 miles, but it was still...

Pros: Stereo system sound. Cons: Everything else. The Bottom Line: Stay away from that junk .
If you have a friend or relative who owns a SAAB, never land him any money :) He/she has serious laps of judgment on how to spend his/her own. Why should you take the same risk? Well if you ask most SAAB owners if their cars were reliable they would ...

Pros: handling, style, comfort, safety, acceleration Cons: there is nothing I don't like about this car
The most solid, comfortable and sporty car I have ever owned. Mine is currently at the dealer for its 35k checkup and I miss it very much. (I have to drive a clumsy '88 Pathfinder until I get it back.) I bought it for the style and the safety, but I...

Pros: Turbo, Trip and fuel computer, turning capability Cons: EVERYTHING, except mentioned above The Bottom Line: The cars suspension absolutely sucks. You feel every bump really bad.
This car has quite honestly been nothing but a living nightmare. I have owned it for 10 years now, and since the day I bought the damn thing, it's drove me crazy. The exterior of the car has stayed in good condition, except for the roof (it's a ...

Pros: comfy, smooth, excellent power, good in winter, tons of room, sexy look Cons: high maintenance, expensive repairs&parts, hard to find repair shop, features can be a hassle The Bottom Line: I'd recommend this car to anyone who could afford the maintenance for it. It handles well, it dominated in Upstate NY winter and it has excellent gas mileage.
In 2004 I was in a car accident. My car was totaled so I went into the market for a vehicle. I found a 1997 SAAB 900S (four door w/hatchback, automatic) at a Chevy dealer in Vestal, NY. They told me it had been traded in by a man who was supposedly a ...

Pros: Wonderful handling, performance, functionality Cons: Excuse me??? The Bottom Line: The 1997 900 Turbo is entertaining, sporty, relaxed, and just plain FUN.
Yes, this is my second Saab 900. I started out with a 1994 five door 900S and moved up to a 1997 three door 900SET Coupe. Obviously I purchased a second Saab for more than the unique styling.
The Saab 900SE Turbo is both a performance...

900SE 2.0 turbo: such poor quality
by dan1967

Pros: turbo engine, handling, cargo capacity in the back Cons: Poor overall quality: minor annoying defects and major reliability limitation
I really I really liked the SAAB 900 design and engine, and after a test drive I was sold.
I purchased my 900 SE from the SAAB dealer in Walnut Creek California, used, with 40K miles on it.
At 48K miles I was stalled on the highway due to a burn clutch.
The clutch was replaced (~2K of parts and labor)
The instrument cluster started not working at 60K miles
The rear muffler gave in at 60K too.
At 70K miles again the clutch started slipping, and was replaced again (same amount)
Part of the light in the board computer stopped working at 75K.
The right window wiper water squirter has been replaced 3 times but still seems not to be working!
Last but not least:
while I was driving to lunch with a coworker, who was inquiring about purchasing a used SAAB, I was telling him that I think SAAB has very poor overall quality, WHEN THE FRONT LIGHT FELL OFF THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY!
I guess that episode convinced him of NOT purchasing a used SAAB.
