Pros: Fuel efficient, lots of features for the price. Cons: Gutless, parts are cheaply made, noise rattles are awful The Bottom Line: If you want all of the "bells and whistles" for cheap then this is for you. If you want reliability go with one of the major imports.
I know that the car here is a bit dated but I think that this is important for those who are considering the longevity studies on this vehicle. It's all well and good to rate a car initially or up to 2-3 years afterwards but at that point you really ...

Pros: Great Handling, good gas mileage, inexpensive maintenance. Cons: Stick shift literally "sticks" if not in correct rpm. The Bottom Line: Still missing my Dodge Neon - the Saturn SL is a good commuter car, but if you can afford more than a 1997 Saturn, buy a different Make and Model!
First a little history Back in 1998 we bought a very basic Dodge Neon that worked quite well for us. When I was pregnant with my 1st child we traded it in for a new 2000 Plymouth Neon. The '98 Dodge Neon handled great and had no problems ...

Pros: Dependable, fuel efficient, 4 door model Cons: No power locks The Bottom Line: Extremely safe and comfortable family sedan that holds value.
The four door Saturn SL2 was redesigned for 1997 and has enough toys and dependability to keep parents happy while being roomy enough for a growing family.
Choosing The Car
Our family did an enormous amount of research before...

Pros: Roominess, smooth ride, safety Cons: steering wheel discomfort
I have owned two saturns. The first was an SL1 that I bought in California. I found the salesperson to be truely helpful and the car drove like a dream. I bought the car used so I wasn't able to add a whole lot of bells and wistles to it, but I had no...

Pros: No haggle shopping, Sporty looking, Plastic panels Cons: No room, window fogging problem, excessive road noise, poor vibration dampening The Bottom Line: Great car for lean single person. Horrible car for portly and/or family of four.
I had always been intrigued with the Saturn commercials. I hate car shopping or more directly, I hate negotiating. Overall, the car buying experience was positive, though don't look at it through rose-colored glasses. They are still car salesman and...

Pros: Price, handling, company Cons: Scary lack of trade in value at Saturn, some parts are cheap quality The Bottom Line: This is one of the best cars in it's price range.
Before I graduated high school, I started looking for a car to buy. I had little to spend and I didn't really know what was "out there". I went around to different used car dealers, trying out cars and testing the waters. I heard so many bad things...

Pros: Great price, no hassles, great continued service! Excellent resell value. Cons: The silly song they sing when you buy a car.
I bought a new Saturn SL2 in 1997. The only reason that I walked into the dealership was that approximately 4 months earlier, my girlfriend (at the time) wanted to buy a car - preferably a Saturn. I went with her to all of the local dealerships, and...

Pros: Fair Price, Dependable Performance, No Salesman Hassles Cons: Automatic Engine lurches a bit from 2nd to 3rd
I bought a 1997 Saturn SL2 and after three years have had no problems whatsoever. I really appreciated not having to haggle over the price, and I believe Saturns are priced fairly as compared to similar vehicles in the market.
My Saturn...

Pros: price Cons: quality, customer service
The Saturn Ads are all hype. The talk about customer service and dependability. this is all hype built up by a very smart marketing manager. My wife and I purchased our 1997 SL2 6 months ago used. the vehicle had 29000 miles and seemed to be in good...

Pros: Reliable. No sales pressure or haggling. Cons: May be a little tight for larger people. Not many options in standard package. The Bottom Line: Great car for little money. Excellent for someone who doesn't have a lot of money to spend but still wants a reliable car. No hassles.
Four years ago, when my old Camaro died, I needed to purchase a new car. I always liked the Saturn TV ads. They seemed very women-friendly. I did my homework and discovered that they are generally rated well. So, hating the car-buying experience, I set...

Pros: reliable car, reasonable price, low pressure car dealership Cons: Battery died when car was less than 3 years old.
It was early 1997, and my husband and I were looking for a second car. We were newlyweds and very inexperienced at car buying. Many of the dealers we visited sensed this, and tried to use it to their advantage. Then we went to Saturn.
The...

Pros: Quality car, good price Cons: Not enough leg room for tall people
After having a used car for three years, I decided that it was time to invest in a new car and stop paying for repairs on my old one. After looking at many different options, I decided that the best car for me was a 4 door Saturn SL.
I bought...

As a 21 year old college student I need a car that gets the job done. Looks, style and elagance mean nothing to me. I want to hop into my car , turn the key and get to where I need to be. My 1997 Saturn is defenetly up to the task and in the looks...

Pros: Reliable, Well-Built Cons: Needs Further Refinement
I gave up a 1990 Taurus SHO for a 1997 model year Saturn; traded it right in. Crazy? Hardly. It was probably the best automotive decision of my life so far.
I did the car research carefully; the Consumer Reports buying guide became a Bible...
