Pros: Well built, comfortable, dependable Cons: None The Bottom Line: A good, comfortable car. Very roomy, handles well, and is fun to drive. Safety features (ABS, airbags, seatbelts), worked EXTREMELY well.
Okay, I will start this review off my stating that while I don't own a Ford Contour, my father did. Well, until I totaled it in a hailstorm at 55 mph by running into a guardrail. I am happy to report that I walked away from the crash with a few...

Pros: Ample Power, Attractive Styling Cons: Small interior, annoying problems
We own a 1998 Contour SE equipped with the 24 valve V-6. The car was built in October 1997 and we have put 30,000 miles on it since we bought it new.
We compared the Contour to the Honda Accord and Nissan Maxima but found those models a...

Pros: Decent finish (in and out); handling; and surprisingly reliable Cons: Underpowered; a little too generic styling for some; too much road noise in cabin The Bottom Line: The secrets to being happy with a Contour: Get the 6-cylinder SE or SVT; check maintenance records before you buy; and commit to regular service. Overall, a good-to-great little car.
A little backstory:
In my family, we buy cars out of necessity. In this case, the 1989 Chevy Corsica had its last dance at the auto shop and was costing more than its utility (if on average I'm spending more on repairs every month for the...

NO ONE!
Introduction
What was Ford thinking when they designed a four door car that is capable of 143 mph?
Obviously, when their fastest Sedan is just as fast as their mid-sized engine sports car, they've done...

Pros: Handling, acceleration abilities, good mileage Cons: Recall after recall, further safety and quality problems, and an overall lack of confidence in this vehicle.
We purchased our 1998 Ford Contour Sport GL with a 16 valve, 4 cylinder engine in October of 1999. What attracted us to this vehicle? It was nearly new, it was in our price range....and it was a pretty blue color! In addition, all of the literature...

Pros: Good styling, powerful V6, nice features, comfortable, reasonable price. Cons: Difficult to "upgrade," some question its reliability. The Bottom Line: If you want the ultimate in reliability and resale value, look elsewhere. If you want a fast, comfortable, inexpensive mid-size car, then the Contour is just the ticket.
Despite the criticism the Contour has received, I've found the car to be fast, comfortable, and a joy to drive. It seems that they got just about everything right in the '98 model year, and it missed the major decontenting that occurred in the '99 and...

Pros: rides smooth, comfy Cons: had a few initial problems with locks
How does the expression go? Take two, they're small? After driving my Ford Contour for a couple of years, it came time to purchase a second family car. After doing a little research, checking out a few lots, and the usual rigamarole involved in...

Pros: speed, handling, braking, interior Cons: reliability
I purchased one of the first SVTs manufactured. This car is quick, handles great, and is always fun to drive. I can take this car on the interstate and push 100 MPH for as long as I like (although I don't really recommend this behavior to the general...

Pros: Speed, handling, reliability, tight as a drum Cons: Tough to shift smoothly. Leather? What leather?
I like my Contour SVT, but it's not perfect.
Pros: The car is fast and quiet on the freeway. Around town, the engine growls enough to let you know it's there. The sound of the engine is addictive-a multicam V-6 snarl that's much better than...

Pros: Classic Body Styling, Plenty of Power in a mid-sized Car, Quick Fix of Recalls Cons: Recalls
This was one of those 'accidental' purchases. In September of 1998, I had gone to the Ford dealership with the intention of purchasing an inexpensive car with just a few options. I figured it would probably be an escort.
I chose a loaded...

Pros: Great acceleration, excellent traction and driving, ABS is excellent. Cons: Factory radio could be better, Door Lock switches are too far back on the door.
What can I say about my Contour SE Sport ? It is a BALL to drive, I love it ! It is the love I have for this car that keeps me from getting rid of it, thought it has a tainted history.
I do a lot of driving. About 85% of my driving is MAJOR...

Pros: Looks, Performance, Price Cons: Poor Gas Mileage, Limited rear seat space
I bought this car used in July 2000. It had 47,500 miles on it. I purchased this car because of its reputation. This car is elusive with only 5,000 being made each year. The chances of getting this car are very difficult. If you manage to find...

Pros: Very fast and responsive, the Contour SVT is a little tigress in sheep's clothing. Cons: At several spots, the fit and finish were disappointing. The Bottom Line: From the perspective of fun and practicality, I recommend 1998.5 Contour SVT with enthusiasm. I own it with pride.
This ain't a rent-a-car. The $23,000 195hp Contour SVT screams on the road and leaves a whole lotta cars behind from the get go. Fun fun fun to drive. It handles like a dream. It's for a special class of drives only, for it only comes with a...

Pros: Best car in its price range Cons: minor recalls
The Contour is probably more car for the dollar than you are going to find anywhere else. I wouldn't call anything about the Contour "inspired" -- but given the fact that you can pick one up a 98 used for 10K or so, it's very hard to...
