Pros: Comfortable driving, great pricing and warranty Cons: 4-cyl engine is terrible, lacks Honda or Toyota name brand recognition
The 2000 Mazda 626 is a great alternative to the pricier mid-size sedans such as the Altima, Camry LE or the Accord. The 2000 version has undergone some wholesale modifications which add up to a more polished sedan. I'd like to also point out...

Pros: Very sleek and stylish, comfortable, ES model features Cons: Unreliable, poor craftsmanship, underpowered The Bottom Line: The Mazda 626 will no doubt catch your eye as being super stylish, but sadly is lacking in the quality and reliability department.
My 2000 Mazda 626 featured a number of firsts for me. It was my first mid-sized sedan, after having experienced two compacts, the very likeable albiet somewhat flawed Dodge/Plymouth Neon and the most excellent Dodge Shadow (see my reviews on both those ...

Pros: Relative lower price than Honda or Toyota Cons: Weak engine performance on 4 cyl; crude auto transmission The Bottom Line: The Mazda 626 was on a par with the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry back in the old days - but no longer. It's now outdated by comparison.
I recently rented a new 2001 Mazda 626 LX 4-cyl. for two days at the SEA TAC airport Hertz location. It had 3,804 miles on the odometer. We previously owned an '84 Touring GT (5-door hatchback) Mazda 626 that we were pretty happy with for 10+ years and...

Pros: Good fuel efficiency Cons: Not enough power
Mazda 626
I picked up a 4 door Mazda 626 LX at Los Angeles international airport to drive up to San Bernardino CA. There was no particular reason why I picked up this vehicle. But a friendly clerk at Hertz suggested that I drive this car....

Pros: Roomy, reliable, comfortable, solid as a rock construction, love the nifty "swing" A/C thingy! Cons: underpowered, slightly lazy automatic transmission, so-so handling, and did I mention that it's UNDERPOWERED?! *L*
The best kept secret on the market? Or does Mazda's purportedly inferior product quality render this compact family sedan for the masses a distant loser in the race for your hard-earned bucks? Well, if my own experiences are to be any indication (and I...

Pros: Value for money; appearance; ride Cons: Some LX package interior details
SIX MONTH UPDATE on 11/13/00: Six months and 6,500 miles into this car, pretty much everything written below still stands. We're happy with the car and its performance and have had no mechanical problems whatsoever. A couple of observations -- styled as...

Pros: Great interior and exterior styling, fun to drive, a great overall car. Cons: Resale value is horrible, premium fuel required for V6, 4 speed automatic transmission The Bottom Line: The ES V6 version is great - just watch out for resale values. Also look at Accord, Camry, Jetta/Passat.
I just sold my black beauty - a 2000 626 ES V6 sedan (I bought a Honda minivan). I purchased the car with 12k miles on it from a local dealer - I paid $16,500 for the car in 2001. The car was heavily equipped with everything but fog-lights and a rear...

Pros: Styling, comfort, power Cons: Not real happy with the warranty.
I rented this car on a business trip and was surprised and pleased by how well built this car really is. It's a good solid car and well priced.
Power: This car is actually pretty peppy for a four-banger. The automatic tranny know...

Pros: Slick handling, sensible interior, solid build Cons: Needs a little more HP and a little more hype
When last you heard from Your Humble Narrator, he was giving four stars to the '93 626, a car which he found to be a worthy getter of groceries and a decent freeway flyer, two goals which are not always met in the same vehicle. And in the fall,...

Pros: Drive, acceleration, looks, inside, and A/C. Cons: Fuel usage. The Bottom Line: I have had the car for more than a year now. It is an excellent car! Everybody else likes it too and they let me know.
I have been looking for a new car for awhile now. I wanted to wait until September or later to take advantage of lower prices. But I couldn't resist when I saw the 2000 Mazda 626 LX V-6. Plus, I received a $2000 rebate. I heard so many good things...

Pros: Minimal up-keep Cons: I haven't noticed any.
I bought my Mazda626 about a 1 1/2 years ago. It's a 1986, but I love it. It has never let me down. It has minor upkeep since I bought it, and had the same before so. I have put very little into this car, and have received nothing but greatness. ...

Pros: Great Handling, Good Audio, Swinging Vents. Cons: Dealer service, & issue after issue. The Bottom Line: Even though it might be a fluke....Dealer Service is a fluke no matter where you take it, and that counts for a whole heck of a lot in my book
After going into an area Metro-Detroit Mazda/VW Dealer on the hunt for a VW Jetta, I was convinced to take a look at the Mazda 626. The car was reasonably affordable attractive as I received numerous discounts on the vehicle.
One thing 1 must...

Pros: GAS MILEAGE!!, reliability, reliability, reliability, reliability. Cons: Slight amounts of road noise, interior cloth is cheap. The Bottom Line: Buy it. Reliability and gas mileage alone make this an awesome starter car for anyone, and great for families on a budget.
For starters, this is my mother's car - but I drive it extensively, and have nearly 10,000 miles into it since I began driving shortly after the car was bought. It is a 2000 Mazda 626 LX 4-cyl, that now has approximately 135,000 miles on it, after buying ...

Pros: Roomy, gas mileage Cons: 4-cylinder not the fastest or smoothest. The Bottom Line: Good roomy, transporation. Originally listed for around $20,000 and sells for under $10,000 now - so you get a for the money.
My wife bought a 2000 4-cylinder LX before we got married. I was actually pretty impressed with this car - the 2.0 liter I-4 isn't the smoothest or quickest engine in the world, but it moves the car decently - and you can get 30-32 mpg on the highway...

Pros: Beautiful car, ac vent thing Cons: Transmission, acceleration, front leg room. Its a Ford!!!! The Bottom Line: Stay away from this driving disaster
I bought a 2000 Mazda 626 LX (4 cyl.) last month. The car was beautiful inside and out, and then it hit me. This is no Mazda, its a ford and the fact that you buy parts that come from Ford prove it. A mechanic said that except for the head (which says ...
