Pros: Balance of supple ride and decent handling, Brakes, Safety Cons: Disappointing engine performance and oomph, Steering too light, Expensive The Bottom Line: If you're looking for performance in a luxury car, look elsewhere (Mercedes S-Class). The 740i a nice car, but not worth the $70K+ price tag.
Normally, I wouldn't be driving around in an $80,000 car like the BMW 740i, but today I had the chance to drive one as part of BMW's "Ultimate Drive for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation" program (also drove the Z3 Coupe 3.0i; see my other...

Pros: Absolutely beautiful, great interior and exterior, awesome power and world class handling Cons: none The Bottom Line: With BMW, you cannot go wrong, and with their flagship sedan, this car is unbelievable.
Recently my father traded in his Acura 3.5RL and purchased a 2001 BMW 740i. He went to the dealership to check out the 540 vehicles, but he always wanted a 740 but just felt they were out of his price range. Well, at the dealership was a 740i with...

Pros: Ride, handling, power, lights, comfort. Cons: Price, complex controls, so so navigation system The Bottom Line: After 30,000 miles , I am still in love with the car.Finest road car you could ask for. Quick, powerfull, great handling, super comfortable. Good as it gets.
All the writeups in Car & Driver and R & T over the years put the 740 in a mental class all its own, in my mind. Last spring I was thrilled to be able to drive a beautiful Biaritz Blue iL model out of Gault Auto Sport. The presentation was fitting for a...

Pros: Comfortable for tall people, powerful, lust provoking Cons: Wind noise from sunroof when closed and interior shield open The Bottom Line: Get one! You won't be sorry.
This is the 4th BMW I have owned. I started with a 320i, then a 325e, then upgraded to a 525i with 5speed, then a Mercedes c-class (major P.O.S.), then the 740il. Mine is dark blue with beige leather, tinted windows and the GPS. I am 6'4 and ...

Pros: Best mix of safety, luxury, and performance available to the public Cons: So-so sound system, confusing controls
I recently bought a 2001 740iL. I have one word to say. AMAZING! This car feels agile and sporty, just like every other BMW, while having the interior space of a yacht.
First, lets talk about the exterior. Most people are split on this. I...

Pros: Super interior luxury with BMW only fit and Finish Cons: It's Big and likes the premium fuel only. The Bottom Line: Bottom Line for this car is that it is everything that its name implies and it has the whole kitchen when you really want to drive it.
When making the decision to spend the money to have the luxury that you want it is important to look at the most minute of details. The fit and finish of a BMW 7 series is in my opinion the best example of luxury available for less than 100k. From the...

Pros: Warranty, classic exterior and interior, great fit and finish Cons: Durability and Reliability The Bottom Line: Some issues however it wont be my last bmw as the good far outweighed the bad.
This Bmw was my third bmw and will certainly not be my last. I purchased this 2001 Bmw 740il after driving the Mercedes benz s500 and being thouroughly disappointed. I got the sport package which comes with an awesome set of m parallel wheels as well as ...

Pros: A large luxiurious interior, an easy to use dashboard control system, great service from BMW Cons: The 6-disc Compact Disc player is akwardly located in the trunk. The Bottom Line: Once again BMW has meet and exceeded all expectations for a great luxury vehicle. The 7-Series is the ultimate driving machine.
Sleek, fast, comfortable, and reliable. These adjectives are all words that the describe the beautiful BMW 7-Series. The 7-Series is BMW's flagship automobile and has constantly been improving. The 2001 model will include a new bigger navigation system...

Pros: comfortable luxury car Cons: A little expensive
The BMW is probably one of the finest cars that I have ever seen. It is a wonderful car for single men and women but also a nice car for small families of three or for. It comes fully equipped with a.m. f.m. radio, a cd player a sun roof and...

Pros: Comfort, elegance, power Cons: Not for small or beginning drivers.
You turn the key and open the door. Sitting down on the plush leather seats, you make a call on your voice activated telephone, and set your one of two thermostats. You start playing one of six CDs, but decide to listen to your own robotic weather band...

Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing The Bottom Line: Try it because it has to be the finest car on the market.
There is just not much that can be said of the feeling of immense satisfaction that I experience when I'm able to drive the BMW 7 Series. But for starters, the sedan costs anywhere from 66,000 (base)to 110,000 (loaded)and even though it is hard to...

Pros: Fast, great looks, handling, comfort, and sporty Cons: repair costs, and use of high test gas.
The 2001 740il has superb handling and a refined interior with soft leathers and nice attention to detail. The seats are ergonomically designed and are among the most comfortable seats in the automotive industry. I bought this car with 112K on it and have had to put some money into repairs as it was somewhat neglected by the previous owner. Make sure you have the updated navigation computer. I added it later. The engine is smooth and powerful. The stereo features a six-disk changer in the trunk. It also has a great sound system that can be customized. The instrument panel glows at night in orange and the car is oh so quiet. Please remember that this is a BMW and therefore will cost more to maintain but it is the "Ultimate Driving Machine."

Pros: Powerful, Impressive, Loud, Eye Catching... Everything a Man could ask for Cons: No ejector seat to discard someone who might say there's a con to this car.
This car is a pure classic and deserves to be revered as such. The ride quality and the roar of the V8 engine are hard to come by in any automobile and I am lucky to own one. I also own a 645i an X5 and a 330i but the 740 is by far the most fun and classy car that I own. I can take it anywhere and be proud of it. Not too flashy but sporty enough to take your breath away, this ride will impress most crowds. I turn off the music and listen to the engine purr at idle and as I engage the roaring V8 engine with a quick flick of the ankle I am thrown back into the supple leather seats which hug every curve of my body and I drift off into a torque induced dream world. I highly encourage any potential buyer to look more deeply into their decision and purchase this beautiful automobile.
