Pros: Handling, utility, thorough tuning, reliability vastly improved Cons: Low-end torque, engine noise in regular driving, ride on imperfect roads The Bottom Line: For some people this will be the perfect car. For me I now realize it's not quite there.
The #1 thing I look for in a car, before horsepower, quality, or anything else, is a chassis that entertains in everyday driving. Over the last decade Fords European subsidiary has developed what are arguably the best-handling front-wheel-drive cars ...

Pros: Tight, quick steering, surprisingly neutral chassis balance, enthusiastic demeanor. Cons: high-chair driving position, too-low shifter, acceleration not as fast as some like-priced rivals. The Bottom Line: With an improved reliability record, the eager and entertaining SVT has become a good choice in the sport-hatchback crowd, especially for enthusiasts.
My Experience I test-drove a Ford SVT Focus 5-door at a local dealership. My test drive lasted about half an hour, and covered city streets, winding secondary roads, and the freeway. Performance If you're going by the numbers, the ...

Pros: Roomy interior, surefooted handling, firm steering, smooth and comfortable ride. Cons: Poor reliability, weak acceleration, mushy shifter, some low-quality plastics inside. The Bottom Line: Such a tough call--a great little car with a dismal repair record. The Focus gets three stars for driving so well, but it's probably best to stick to more-reliable rivals.
My Experience I test-drove a 2003 Focus LX sedan at a local dealership. My test drive lasted about half an hour, and consisted of winding secondary roads and the freeway. Performance The Focus has many strengths, but ...

Pros: Price is low; Trunk is roomy; Good steering and fuel economy Cons: Acceleration; Annoying seat belt beeper and turn signal The Bottom Line: This is a very practical vehicle that's lacking in excitement.
Ford Motor Company makes many vehicles in all sorts of sizes to accommodate the needs of its customers. Some are large and heavy and drain the gasoline faster than a reservoir following a dam burst. Others are more economical and can really help stretch y ...

Pros: Utility, fun to drive, features for the money Cons: No redline on tachometer, hard to find reverse on stick shift The Bottom Line: A really nice effort for a small car - lots of features for the money, plus fun to drive and versatile.
The lease on our Ford Explorer was due to end in 5 months – my wife and I were planning on letting it lapse and replace it with another, smaller SUV. The letter from Ford Motor Credit changed all that. Basically, their “Early Bird” program would allow ...

Pros: good gas milage, comfortable Cons: on the small side, a few things broke The Bottom Line: Not a bad car, but don't think I would buy it again for my family. Maybe if I was single.
This was the first car my wife and I bought together. We were both in college at the time, so needless to say money was tight. The tight budget is what put us onto the Focus. It was a new car, with 23 miles on it, that I expected to run for a long time ...

After driving a couple 4th generation Firebirds for 8 years as a daily driver, I welcomed the opportunity to buy an actual daily driver and leaving the Firebird as weekend car. This made for a "best of both worlds" situation. After some minor body work ...

Pros: It's better than riding a bike or walking when it's raining. Cons: radio, radio, radio, seats, refinement, radio, looks. Passing and merging takes major planning ahead. The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car to someone who has price as the only major concern. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
This review is for a car that I had as a rental car for about a month while my car was in the shop following accident damage. Unfortunately, this is the only class of car that the other driver's insurance company would pay for, so I suffered through it. ...

Pros: Good ride, good brakes, good turning. Roomy trunk. Cons: Only average gas mileage, crowded, badly designed controls. The Bottom Line: Not bad if you're under 5'9". Miserable for 6 footers, and the controls are just weird.
When Hubby's Neon started acting up and the repair bill was more than the value of the car, we traded it in for a 2003 metallic gold Ford Focus with a beige interior. Very nice looking, but a royal pain of a car. I have not been impressed with this ...
