In Korean, GT means "standard leather"

by mkaresh mkaresh is a Lead on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10
Sep 24 '02 - Updated Jun 22 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Price, standard content, good power, cargo room
Cons: Economy look and feel, long shifter throws, loose suspension
The Bottom Line: I've driven GTs before, and this is no GT. It would make a fine GXE or Limited, though.

When I drove the 2003 Ti buronit totally changed my view of Hyundai. Maybe it is capable of producing a tastefully styled car for the enthusiast after all, and not just good values for the average undemanding ...

by madtheory Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100
Jun 12 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent price, excellent warranty, nimble sport suspension, a whole bunch of extras come standard.
Cons: The 5th and 6th speakers are teeny-tiny, engine needs more ‘oomph,’ serious depreciation.
The Bottom Line: A great car for those who want a sporty ride, but don’t want to shell out for the usual suspects.

I guess I just attract bad drivers. After all, it was about this same time two years ago that I w ...

by sssexy70
Nov 25 '07 - Updated Nov 26 '07

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Transmission, Engine, the doors are still attached
Cons: Ride quality, fuel consumption in its class, and styling(?)
The Bottom Line: Buy this car to support an improving car company as will be proven when you drive this. Just be prepared for ridicule.

So yes, I have purchased myself a 2003 Hyundai Elantra in replacement for my not so excellent 1997 Honda Accord. Shopping was difficult especially because my main objective was to buy a Mazda Protege 5 but price didn't allow, so this was the next best ...

May 02 '03 - Updated Aug 06 '09

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: features to cost ratio, buyer bargaining power, 4 wheel disc brakes, ABS, 6 speaker cd..
Cons: market perception = depreciation, weak rear speakers
The Bottom Line: Be apprehensive.. Do the research, and be surprised after the test drive !! LASTING PAST 200,000 KM !!

Being asian, my inclination is towards compacts. More with less. And that is what you get with the Elantra GT. I was down to 3 vehicles: 03 Civic 4D Sport, 03 Corolla S, and 03 Elantra GT. The Corolla S was dumped early, although the outside is a bit ...

Small car comparison- 3rd/6 place

by pmm2422
Jul 22 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Quietness, smooth ride, roomy interior, high-quality feel, and comfortable front seats, warranty.
Cons: Poor offset crash result, ABS hard to find, handling, rear speakers, depreciation.
The Bottom Line: Although it didn’t beat the VW Jetta or Honda Civic, the Elantra topped Mazda's Protégé, Nissan's Sentra and Toyota's Corolla. I don’t recommend it due to its poor offset crash.

DESCRIPTION The Hyundai Elantra GLS is a small car powered by a 2.0 liter 134 hp engine. It deliver ...

The Bottom Line: Own one and it'll be a reliable and good work horse for you!

Going on nearly 3-years and 60k miles I've been very pleased with my 2003 Hyundai Elantra GT. With regards to reliability, performance, and comfort it has performed at or beyond my expectation. The Elantra GT is rather roomy for its size, ...

Jan 16 '03 - Updated Mar 19 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Price, standard options, look
Cons: Look, quality of fit and finsih
The Bottom Line: If you can't afford something else, get it. If you can, do it.

The newest issue with the Elantra is a serious wiring problem on the front driver's side of the car. To date, the car has been in the shop for six weeks. Not only have parts been back ordered, but the kicker was the dealership placing the wrong wiring...

The 2003 Elantra GT sports sedan: "Well-balanced"

by ledfut
Jun 17 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: A complete list of standard features found on cars thousands more. Great fun to drive.
Cons: Trunk lid opens just far enough to smack my forehead!
The Bottom Line: No car, even at MSRP, comes fully-equipped like the Elantra GT. Mated to a 5-speed, it accelerates, corners, and stops like a true sports sedan. An exceptional value.

I was looking for a small sports sedan under $20,000 that would be fun to drive, well-equipped, economical and feature an ample backseat for grandchildren and others. Before buying my Elantra GT sedan, I test-drove at least a dozen other cars in that ...

Aug 07 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Dependable, comfortable, good mpg, low maintenance
Cons: Halogen bulbs hard to change, bolt-on air filter and battery cover
The Bottom Line: Honda and Toyota quality, with better features, at a lower price and better warranty(even if purchased used)

I drive for a courier service as an independent contractor and needed a dependable, economical, comfortable car that could last about 150-200,000 miles to replace my 1998 Sentra which was dying a slow death with only 120,000 on it. Consumer reports rated ...

Nov 20 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Nice small features, good gas mileage, very roomy, comfortable drive.
Cons: nothing.
The Bottom Line: Definitely a good car at a good price. Many added features that will make you love it.

My husband and I went out one day, just browsing, for a new car. We really didn't need one at the time, but we were bored so we thought we would just go look. Little did we know that we would be going home with a new car. We looked at several lots ...

Jun 16 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Thoughtful and durable interior
Cons: Handling Weak clutch Scary brakes Excessive tire wear Incompetent and Worthless Dealers
The Bottom Line: I don't know what's wrong with the other reviewers. This thing is a turd. I feel stupid for buying it. Expect to be laughed at.

I want to like the car. The engine makes adequate power. The interior has proven useful and durable. Great warranty (when you can get the dealer to honor it) which will come in very handy (not a good thing). The handling is quirky but barely ...

Best value I've seen so far...

by staplerman
Nov 02 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Styling, exclusivity (for now), and VALUE!!
Cons: None so far....
The Bottom Line: For the value, styling, content, and warranty, you would be very hard pressed to find a better bang for your buck than the 2003 Elantra GT

I had been shopping for a new car for about 6 months, and originally had been interested in a Carbon Blue 2002 Elantra GT, but I couldn't find one with the options I wanted (5 speed, no moonroof), so I started looking at other cars, including the Mazda...
