Nissan's flopping flagship.

by shoplmart shoplmart is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10
Oct 26 '02 - Updated Sep 29 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Interior room/quality, Acceleration.
Cons: Price, Awkward styling.
The Bottom Line: While the 2003 Maxima SE is a well made family car, I recommend waiting for the 2004 models, or going with the 2003 Altima 3.5 SE.

The Nissan Maxima (since the 1980s) has always been the superstar of the Nissan family car line-up; until the past few years. When the Maxima's lesser model; the Nissan Altima, was reinvented in 2002, the famous Maxima quickly lost its appeal and claim to ...

It's been fun, but now it's time to go

Oct 02 '02 - Updated Jun 22 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Fast, roomy, can be fun
Cons: Lean in turns, chassis lacks composure, tire squeal, seats lack lateral support
The Bottom Line: This car has aged beyond its sell-by date. For either sport or luxury, there are now better choices.

Only a few sub-$30,000 sedans are available with a six-cylinder engine and manual transmission. GM, Ford, Honda, and Toyota do not offer such a car. (Okay, the Ca dillac CTS starts at $29,990, but if you want a ...

The Nissan Maxima 2003 from the Former Saleswoman’s Point of View

by kparsons13 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200
Jun 27 '03 - Updated Jul 12 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: no interior noise, has much pep, luxury is there but needs more
Cons: Controls are hard to find, styling outdated, doesn't handle great
The Bottom Line: I would recommend the Maxima to someone but not this year's model. I would tend to go towards the Altima for less money. The 2004 Model however is HUGE improvement!

I have to admit just right off the bat that I am not crazy about the Nissan Maxima and feel p ...

Maxima not dead

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: 3.5L V6, Interior room
Cons: Not much interior storage space
The Bottom Line: Lots of power and room. Subtle styling and a killer engine.

This is my first new car review, so I am sure that it will not be as polished as the other reviews in this category. I have had this car for one week at the time of this review and here are my impressions so far.

Decent car overall, but with some flaws

by jessefrank
Jan 06 '06 - Updated Jan 09 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: 3.5L V6 power and smoothness, list of standard features, gas mileage
Cons: harsh ride, interior cabin noise level, sometimes harsh shifts(auto), build materials(interior and paint), FWD
The Bottom Line: Good value for its class, but if you want a performance sedan, despite how Nissan markets this vehicle, look elsewhere. Quality and craftsmanship is poor.

I bought my 03 Maxima as a lease return vehicle with 18k miles and approx. 1 year old. Since that time my wife and I have put about 25k on it mostly city driving. I recently sold this vehicle for an Audi A4. I had all service performed as scheduled by ...

I love my 2003 Nissan Maxima

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Performance, Handling, Comfort, Styling, Value for Dollar Spent, good gas mileage
Cons: Little fishy on curves if you go too fast but other than that, perfect
The Bottom Line: Best performance of any car in it's class, sleek edgy styling, high quality and durability, good gas mileage, best value for dollar spent

I'm on my second Nissan Maxima SE. I bought a 2001, then traded it in for a 2003 (more horsepower!). I have owned over 9 cars in the last 14 years and I will never own anything but a Nissan for the rest of my life, specifically the Nissan Maxima SE. ...

Sportiest Luxury car for under $30k

by woodruffk
Jan 17 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent power, 6 speed, Overall sporty exterior appearance
Cons: Paint chips easily, Poor Handling
The Bottom Line: Sport and Luxury combined into a great car for under $30,000

I recently bought this car, September 02, and I have nothing but good things to say. The power is great thanks to its 3.5L V6, which produces an estimated 255hp. The horsepower is actually closer to 240, which is the same amount as the 3.5-liter Nissan...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Price, ENGINE, Looks, Options, Ergonomics (except for side mirror controls)
Cons: Local Service/Dealers, Resale Value, Sub-woofer Mounting
The Bottom Line: Definte Recommendation, specially now that this car is 1/2 the new price and gets VERY good marks on every category!

Used extensive computer/network research before buying this car. I shopped with four local dealers, got great prices but not the right color (sunlit sand) and I truly did not like dealing with them. Their professionalism was out of a used car movie. I ...

ZZZZOOOOOM!!

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fast, fast, fast, fast, did I mention its fast yet?
Cons: Clunky 6-speed manual gear shift.
The Bottom Line: Faster than any other "dad" car on the market. Best price in its class as well. Luxurious. Whats not to like??

Im a Nissan guy. I have owned 7 of them, I'm hooked, and I admit it, so I'm a bit biased. Fact is Nissan has been making more powerful, less expensive cars than their japanese competitors for, well, for forever.

My new maxima is the ultimate...

Great all around!

Feb 07 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: power, quality, handling/braking, ergonomics, comfort
Cons: turning radius, needs illuminated steering wheel controls
The Bottom Line: Recommended because it does everything well and looks good doing it and has Nissan quality to boot.

The Nissan Maxima (Max) is a great all around quality sports sedan. If you're looking for good looks, comfort, power, ergonomics and functionality (i'm probably forgetting one or two categories), then get a Maxima. I bought my '03 Maxima in December ...

"I've got the Power"

by MrsManners862
Nov 09 '02 - Updated Mar 22 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Premium Power and Performance.
Cons: My Maxi is white. She's very pretty keeping her clean is hard work.
The Bottom Line: This is a fierce ride. Inconspicuous, conservative and powerful. What more could a professional woman want in her car.

My latest birthday present to myself was a second car. I have friends who own and swear by their Maxima's so I decided to check out the 2003.

Maxi is one month old and ............

POWER is the only word I can use to describe this...

Style and Quality Champion

by talos45
Feb 02 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: acceleration, quality fit and finish, smooth ride.
Cons: Cornering is sluggish (so Ive heard)
The Bottom Line: Find a 2003 with low miles and you'll have excellant transportation for years to come.

I just bought my 2003 Nissan Maxima GLE a week ago but I have some comments about the Maxima in general and the 2003 in particular. Nothing beats Japenese quality, fit and finish on their automobiles and no where is this more evident than in the 2003 ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: SPEED ENGINE STYLING
Cons: HANDLING STYLING
The Bottom Line: Nice car, great engine, but suspension kills it for me.

I purchased this car in September of '03. I did get a decent deal (usual practice for Nissan's) from the dealer. However, he got me on my trade in (surprise?). In any case - I test drove the Altima and was altogether not impressed by any means. I was ...

Pros and Cons to this Model

by busybuyer123
Feb 21 '08

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Seamless shifting, responsiveness
Cons: Wide turning radius, gas mileage poor in the city, winter driving poor
The Bottom Line: If you can live with the bumpy suspension and wide turning radius, the engine is a gem!

We did an extensive amount of research on which car to purchase, even going to Consumer Reports to do comparisons and here at Epinions. The engine in the Maxima is fantastic! She is responsive and quick, with all most seamless shifting. Pretty to look ...
