Pros: At least it gets here! Cons: SCAM!!! Massive brokerage fees!
You pay more in brokerage fees than in shipping. The basically hold your merchandise for ransom. Steer clear of UPS!
The stuff does get to the destination. Brokerage fees have been more than the cost of shipping and merchandise combined at...

I WON'T TAKE A LOT OF YOUR PRECIOUS TIME, BUT i SHOULD SAY THAT UPS "SERVICE' IS A PIECE OF SH-T, BECAUSE OF THEIR EXORBITANT HIDDEN FEES (CUSTOM BROKERAGE FEES, Credit fees, paper fees etc.) My history. 1. They didn't call me in time of delivery (I ...

Pros: The people at the store and UPS International were courteous (but not helpful or knowledgeable) Cons: Consumer is charged hidden fees and package is held hostage until they are paid.
I sent several small birthday gifts to my daughter who lives in Canada through a local independently owned UPS Store, paying $22 shipping charges. The package was delivered with $27 in COD charges. After multiple phone calls and much misinformation ...

Pros: the dishonest theatre in which the company deflects the client from ever knowing about fees Cons: read the piece.
Beware UPS hidden fees. I used the UPS store on Cambie near 18th yesterday. I asked whether they did regular postage. The man said yes, put my large envelop on a non-metered scale and charged me $3.52. After paying, he then said, 'everything's ...

Pros: Online tracking Cons: Customer service Delivery date Customer service again Broken promises
I shipped a item to my girlfriend who lives in washington from the ups store. I was told that it was guarenteed delivery by a certain date or else a "full or partial refund". A day after the scheduled delivery date it was delivered but she was also ...

Pros: - None! Cons: - High/excessive Surcharge brokerage costs to end customer
Not that costly for the sender (which is why many senders from US use it), but high cost for receiver. Surcharge customs "brokerage" fee that really just seems like extortion from UPS billed to end receiver. Usually 2-3 times the original ...

Pros: It's convenient. Cons: Hopefully with fingers crossed and divine intervention, your package will actually reach its destination.
Sadly, we have found that UPS loses a good 10% of all packages shipped. If you think you are safe if you submit a claim if they lose your package, you would be sorrily mistaken. See, half of the time UPS will tell you that the box you ...

May 13 09 package sent from Philippines. Paid more than $200 for shipment. The agent who picked up the package from my sister's house told her not to write the exact amount or else she will pay $20 more for every $100 excess. The guy himself wrote the ...

Pros: There are none. Use USPS or a reputable courier firm. Cons: Are they vying for "worst customer service of the century" title? They have my vote.
Every once in a while I need something from the US from a firm that insists on using UPS. Perhaps shipments within the US are OK. I have three horror stories to tell, but will limit myself to one. The item arrived with a bill for approximately the value ...

Pros: can't think of any Cons: massive fees... will not deliver to my door.

Ridiculous brokerage fees
by danshea ,Jun 04 '06
Pros: Reasonable delivery time. Cons: Ridiculous brokerage fees.
I ordered a fifty dollar cell phone off eBay. When it arrived, I got dinged with $32 worth of import charges - of which 84 cents was GST, and $31 was the UPS' brokerage fee.
If they're trying to kill the cross-border eBay market, they're off to a good start.
The UPS website is also misleading/incorrect. It states their brokerage fee for an item of that value is $19. Be wary of trusting their website for reliable brokerage information.

Two words: DON'T USE
by hameedx1 ,Nov 05 '03
Pros: Online tracking Cons: Brokerage fee (Hidden charges)
A friend was sending me a parcel from Los Angeles (I'm in Toronto), and after using the "Estimate Cost" feature in the UPS site, we decided that it would be best to ship through UPS since the rates given were reasonable.
But when the parcel was delivered, I had to pay a brokerage fee of $29.96 (around three dollars less than what was charged for shipping). Apparently, this fee was for conducting the parcel through Canada Customs, a highly automated process that should cost UPS less than a dollar (UPS doesn't charge the brokerage fees for express shipping).
Needless to say, I am very disappointed and will never use UPS again.

UPS takes no responsibility, just like the rest of big corporate America
by jb49 ,Sep 16 '05
Pros: none Cons: do trust them
Lend me your $1,000 camera and then I lose it. Who's responsible? Obviously, I am. One way or another, I have to replace the camera. I shipped 4 boxes of books to Canada (to myself for my work during a sabbatical in Canada). Three arrived and one did not (just short of $1,000 worth of books). My employer paid for the shipping, so I had no say in the shipping. The boxes weren't insured. So, the big question is who is responsible. UPS will pay $100 (which won't even cover the shipping for replacements). I entrusted UPS with books critical to my work. They lost them. They should be responsible. I still can't quite gather how they managed to lose a box. Ineptness? The even bigger question is just how rampant among corporate America is the ability to avoid responsibility? It seems to be the rule rather than the exception from my experience. How do we fight this trend?
