by klys ,Feb 27 '08
Pros: Hummm... they are very successful at making people angry Cons: All of the above with a hint of A lot more
Oh My god ... How can I begging.
Well first off, I didn't get the product I wanted due to lack of information, but that is another story...
I bought 4 little rubber seal that go around the piston of brake calipers...
the part # is very hard to find and I was certain I had found it state side.
I placed my order and got my tracking number from the merchant. Yeah...
once it got to my door I fell on my a$$. the cost per rubber ring is 12$ .. not too bad if you consider they are Brembo brake parts and come with a "premium" price.
I couldn't believe it. 40.08$ custom and tax fees: WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTT???
I buy for 52$ of parts + 16$ shipping ... which is somewhat expensive for about .2lbs of merchandise...
+40.08$ UPS Crooked Custom fees...
total: 109$ (let's not forget the 0.65 insurance charge)
OMG now that I have just calculated the total .. I'm even more P1SSED

Avoiding UPS brokerage.
by blg748 ,Feb 23 '05
Pros: Fast shipping to canada trackable. Cons: they are crooks, they need to burn in hell
Ok ive bought many things from the US and have had it shipped using UPS but have stopped using them cuz of their surcharge in brokerage as im in canada. You wanna avoid ups broker and duty i called them up and asked them how to do it and this is what the lady said on the phone to do. ONe ask shipper to mark a value of 15USD. You take the risk of it getting lost or damaged but tell them to pack it very well . UPs has never lost a package of mine. Secondly if its a gift you tell them to mark a value of no more than 40USD. you are allowed up to 60CDN value in a gift. example ur cuzin sends u a a dvdplayer tell them to mark it as a Gift in customs with a a value of 40USD or lower. this will get you accross items from us into canada duty free. MOst shippers on ebay will do this if you explain to them that ups charges insane broker fee's ups rarely looses item or even damages em it all on the packaging.

UPS nightmare
by chiuwong ,Apr 07 '07
Pros: nothing nice about UPS and their service Cons: Will not recommend even to my enemy
UPS are getting away with SCAM which they have created and we, the general public are paying the price because UPS are using the parcel and holding us for ransom.
I have order an item from the US, the cost of the item is $17.84 but UPS charges a broker fee of $21.02. Unfortunately I was not home and reject the packages. When call the Customer Rep and they are not there to help but to block any complaints.
I have also send a e-mail to UPS about my complaint but I am sure it will not be answered or resolved due to the Customer Rep's behaviour.
I have verify in the UPS website and found they themselves did not follow their Rates for Customs Clearance into Canada. In there it indicates for vale for duty $0.00 to $20.00 there should be no fee. Even if they convert my value greater than $20.00 the custom brokerage fee should only be $7.00.
I am fighting the principle and I do not like to be ripped off by big guys.

I sent it back
by pards ,Apr 10 '07
Pros: None Cons: Ridiculous fees. They charge MORE than the cost of the item.
I bought an item from a US company. The cost breakdown:
- $35.50 cost of the item (Vendor)
- $ 5.85 customs charge (Gov't Canada)
- $20.00 brokerage fee (UPS)
- $14.50 shipping (UPS)
- $ 4.25 COD fee. (UPS)
Total cost: More than $80
What kills me is that they tried to charge $4.25 for collecting the money from me!
I refused to accept delivery of the item and sent it back to the vendor for a refund.

UPS
by noahcd ,Jun 26 '06
Pros: None! Cons: Many..... would never ever ever use them
A gift for $21 was sent over a month ago to me from the US. I have been using there tracking system (which is pretty much useless) and have now contacted them on several ocassions. My $21 Canadian gift has been sent to the wrong address in BC. When they finally decided to deliver it... they wanted $25.06 in brokerage fees. Since when do we pay duty etc. on a gift???? Also on the several occasions that I have contacted me I have got lip service.... someone will contact you tommorow etc. Well I'm still waiting for my parcel and I don't anticipate receiving it anytime soon at this rate. I went to contact UPS again today and they are having technical difficulties (on the phone line) and I could not get through. Technial difficulties all right!... How do these people stay in business?

Crooks at UPS
by hifistyle ,Jul 02 '08
Pros: They have a phone number and regular business hours Cons: One of the most insensitive companies around.
I brought items to my local UPS store to get a shipping quote. Mind you, I've lots of experience shipping as an eBay seller and a former store owner, so I'm quite handy with packing and such.
The items were all bubble-wrapped and ready to put into a box with peanuts. I watched as the owner measured every item (what gives with that?)and then turn around and tell me it was going to be $58 for packing! Keep in mind everything is allready packed.
Then he wanted another $78 to ship.
He already knew the answer when I told him to forget it!
This is what happens when you don't have competition.
Use the US POST OFFICE!!! BEST DEAL AROUND!

Never Ever Use UPS
by thiazolium ,Jun 22 '06
Pros: None
There are other package handling companies to choose from Cons: Expensive
Late
Unaccountable
Poor customer service
I find it incredulous in this day and age that no one has legally gone after this obvious pilfering scamming institution. They spend millions of dollars promoting the brown machine as this wonderful caring service that will save you money. Nothing could be further from the truth. I purchased a $15 item in California, only to have the shipping and brokerage fees add up to a whopping $80! When I ask the company to ship via anything other than UPS, they said they had an account with only one courier and they wouldn't send it any other way! Lovely. Naturally I was screwed. Not only that, but earlier this year I received a free sample from a manufacturer that sent the item via UPS. They tried to pin on a $150 customs brokerage fee for this item that had a zero value declaration. Of course I refused the order, since I'm not in the habit of forking over money for items that I was supposed to sample. Bottom line - use anyone else.

misleading prices
by sicardsenior ,Apr 23 '08
Pros: They don't have a monopoly Cons: Worst service. Worst customer customer service. Thank god there are other companies to use.
Just had a pkg sent to Canada from the US. Next day air, 62 lbs. The website gave a price of $289.00 including fuel surcharge. I got billed $427.00, $66.00 of which was a fuel surcharge. Why? Freight collect is the answer. I paid a 50% surcharge because the shipment was freight collect, even though I do have an account. It was pointed out to me that buried in all the text at the bottom of the last page under the heading guarantees that the website prices are good only for prepaid shipments. Anybody want to join a class action. Should cost them millions.

Scam artists
by le_chiffre88 ,Jan 14 '09
Pros: None that I can think of. Cons: UPS's "brokerage fees" are a rip-off.
Just adding my voice to the chorus here to say that UPS shipping to Canada does indeed suck. Expect to pay more in additional hidden "brokerage fees" to UPS when your parcel arrives than you pay for shipping and duties combined. I no longer order anything from the States if the business I want to order from won't ship through USPS (United States Postal Service). Although parcels shipped through USPS do arrive with a brokerage fee (which wasn't the case a few years ago), it is only a flat $5 fee. If you're going to order something from the States and have it shipped through UPS, make sure you call UPS and ask them how much their brokerage fees are going to be before you place the order. At least that way you won't be caught unawares. Also be aware that other courrier services (e.g. FedEx) charge similar fees for crossing the U.S.-Canada border.

95% hidden fees
by nicanor ,Nov 09 '09
Pros: none Cons: hidden fees, scam artists in a corporate scale
Surprise hidden fees when U.P.S. showed up on my doorstep. My $40 package from US came with a $36.14 customs fee ($29.55 brokerage fee $5.11 tax). $29.55 fee for a couple minute's worth of work? Scam! UPS is making bank with this hidden fee.
Got my 2nd package this week too, $60 book with a $40 fee. I'm not against a brokerage fee if a) it's mentioned up front there is a fee and b) if it's fair, like the $5 fee USPS uses.

Brokerage fees: What a rip off
by zaferus ,Jan 15 '08
Pros: None Cons: UPS totally ripped me off
I got charged $20 in "brokerage fees" for an item that was WITH shipping $24. What a rip off, I'll make sure to specifically request for any vendor to NOT use UPS. How can this be legal?

UPS knowingly rips us off
by intellex ,Mar 06 '08
Pros: nothing Cons: Hidden fee ripoff
Had a guitar shipped to me from USA to Canada.
Paid $127 for the guitar, so the package value was $127
Shipping was $61 (steep but acceptable for a big item such as a guitar)
Upon delivery, they requested $91 for brokerage & hidden fees.
That's 72% of the item value!!! F-U UPS!
How the hell can they add on 72% of an items monetary value as a fee ???
I am creating a website to inform the world about

I don't get it...
by mcarl64 ,Dec 17 '07
Pros: None. Zero. "F" Cons: Paying a premium for mediocre service.
I don't understand all the complaints about using UPS for cross-border or international shipping! Any problems with UPS are easily solved with only a few dozen phone calls, weeks of hassles and hours of indifferent and arrogant lectures from UPS customer "service" representatives.
