UPS sux a lot
by drapedude ,Nov 21 '07
Pros: nice commercials. Cons: they lie, don't care about their customers customers. Oh, and they lie.
How can UPS put a "next day air" shipment on a truck half way across the country because there is no room on the plane? That is the latest (and not the first) of our fiascos in dealing with UPS (OOPS) with our manufacturer in Canada. Today I asked "the manager" (probably a co-worker) how that is possible and I was told that because of the holidays that shipping slows down and planes are decreased. HUH? What about American Airlines or somebody else going the way our package is going? Wait until the next plane? faster than a truck. All he could say is "I'm sorry" I have customers that I tell what I am told from UPS (It will be there before Thanksgiving) and now i look like the liar. Seperate issue: when they went on strike, they made their "valued" customers the victims. They suck, plain and simple. Even their tracking software is programed to lie and the humans back it up with more ignorance, practiced deciet and deception.
In my opinion, they can not be relied on to deliver anything but what suits them.

Camera worth $225 - UPS wants $77
by upsblows ,Mar 06 '08
Pros: Nothing! They are rip-off artists. Other couriers are cheaper in brokerage fees - much cheaper Cons: $52 in brokerage fees speaks for itself!
Of that $77 - about $52 goes to UPS. I had the UPS support people break the cost down for me. The rest was Duty and GST to total about $25 of what I would have to pay

Inflationary, Ridiculous
by mikster1 ,Sep 17 '07
Pros: None Cons: Everything
I concur with all the comments--UPS brokerage fees can cost upwards of 30, 40 or 50% or more of your package value!
It is flabbergasting...there are no words to describe my disgust.
I can tell you this..I will NEVER use UPS again. For what that's worth, they better pray I don't extend this influence to my corporation..that will cost them millions.

Crooks!
by ceadams ,Nov 20 '06
Pros: none. Cons: See above.
A package valued at $39.99 U.S. -- the brokerage fees? $37.21 !!!!!! UPS customer service tries to make it sound like a government requirement. Crooks AND liars. I will NEVER again purchase anything from the U.S. if they ship via UPS. As a matter of fact, I will never use UPS for anything ever again.

UPS - Scammer's Paradise
by jhazon ,Apr 19 '07
Pros: Scammers - great for sending packages for free! Cons: Senders are held liable even when the receiver accepts charges and received item.
In December, I shipped a package to Germany. The package was sent via the receivers account (COD). It was received and signed for by the receiver, but he decided to decline the charge a few weeks later. Now I am stuck with a UPS bill of $170. What a scam!? Even though I have proof the receiver asked me to send the package expensed to his account and even though he accepted for the package, I am faced with the bill. So if you ever what to send something for free, simply walk into a UPS store, send the package on the receivers account, use an anonymous name as the sender, then have the receiver refuse the charges. Now UPS will be left looking for someone to pay for the package! What a loop-hole!! I called the UPS Customer Service line and they continue to inform me that the 'contract' says the liability of charges is that of the shipper. The receiver in Germany has not returned any of my emails or phone calls.

UPS are ZEROES !!!
by marginal ,Jul 31 '07
Pros: The service in general is not bad. Cons: EXCESSIVE BROKERAGE FEES. You may end up paying $33 for an item that costs $0.
UPS is the most fraudulent courier service in North America.
Their brokerage fees are excessive and no one knows about them before receiving the parcel when it is too late to do anything in order to avoid these charges.
I wish UPS went bankrupt. That will make so many people happy ...

Brokerage fee is a KILLER (beware Canadian buyers)
by snontario ,Aug 25 '06
Pros: on time Cons: brokerage fee
I just received my item via UPS that I bought from a ebay seller resides in the U.S.
interestingly, I was asked for extra $22 COD to get the item. THIS WAS JUST A "brokerage fee" (not duty, custom or something like that) for an item that cost me $20 itself.
IF you check the UPS website, this fee is not what you can find that out easily there!

UPS fee is an outrageous rip off
by nite_xr ,Feb 21 '05
Pros: Easy for retailers to use Cons: Excessive fees that few US retailers actually even know about.
UPS has once again ripped me off. 27.99 USD item and a 17.00 CAD brokerage charge. I sent back a package that had a 130USD item because they wanted 40CAD for brokerage (over and above the GST and duty, it was 69CAD total owing to receive that package.) I will not purchase from companies using UPS as their shipping agent again.

yoU Poor Sucker-what a rip-off!
by hercfixr ,Feb 16 '05
Pros: None Cons: -super high hidden brokerage fees
Don't use UPS Standard to Canada-ever!
I recently bought some assorted small aircraft tools from a company in the US. Even with the extra costs of exchange and shipping I thought I got a good deal-Until the UPS guy showed up and handed me a bill that included $38.40 in brokerage fees-on a $120 Shipment!
None of this was mentioned in any of the billing process..
I needed the tools, so all I could do was pay up.Calling Customer Service didn't help either-they said it was a "normal" fee. I'd hate to see an abnormal one.
I can guarantee that is the last time I will EVER use UPS.

UPS Total Government Charges - Canada Customs Fees Collected not Remitted
by no_sucker ,Dec 12 '06
Pros: Punish corporate fraud, individual fraud criminal offence, Don't charge custom fees on duty-free items. Cons: Tell consumers up-front to expect a reasonable handling fee per item.
Phonograph records manufactured in USA are duty free under NAFTA but UPS issues a document claiming to collect custom brokerage fees on behalf of Canada Customs & Revenue Agency to clear shipment. These are duty-free items so therefore this is money UPS collects fraudulently - corporate fraud should have legal consequences just as individuals are charged.

UPS Brokerage - Con artists
by gelsoft ,Jan 11 '05
Pros: Good tracking system Cons: Outrageous brokerage fee
On a shipment from the US to Canada with a duty value of 56.20 CAN, I was charged 30.84 CAN for Brokerage. I had spoken with the shipper about the outrageous fees charged by UPS and he had assured me that I wouldn't be charged for brokerage fees as he was handling the paper work for UPS.
Charges would have been minimal with USPS. I hope that UPS will suffer one day for this practice.

UPS Brokerage Scam in Canada
by wmstrome ,Jun 17 '05
Pros: Tracking option (USPS tracking ends at the border. Cons: Long delay in border crossing at times. Completely unreasonable brokerage fee
I agree with all the other reviews condemning UPS. Purolator is half as bad -- I had to pay a total of $17 on delivery of a $29.00 item.
Warning about USPS: If you use any of the "Priority" mail options, the package will end up in the hands of UPS for transfer across the border and delivery in Canada, with those $30 brokerage fee charges! It ended up taking over two weeks to get my last shipment.
The best way I have found so far is USPS REGULAR MAIL -- letter rate is best if it is small enough, or regular surface parcel post.

UPS is BROWN CRAP
by lduguay ,Jul 01 '05
Pros: None, zero, niet, ziltch Cons: Cant deliver, insane fees. No service,
Got shafted both ways by UPS for brokerage fees on Refurbished/Used, US made empty hard disk carriers. Yes, USED, with dust and all. They charged me 76.92$ for shipping + duties and various fees. The HD carries price was 110$...The package weight was 2 pounds including the box.
Another time they dumped a 600$ APC UPS on my front porch, on a rainy day. Had to RMA the poor thing, it was dripping wet.
At least they chose the right color, brown, i can smell the miles ahead before they dump their package.
NEVER AGAIN!
