Iowa State: College of Design

by soulgrind1 , Jun 13 '00
Pros: A respected graphic design program
Cons: Ames is boring
I am a Junior in the Graphic Design program at Iowa State University. Overall I enjoy the school and I rate my program of study as one of the best in the Midwest. Consistently I hear nothing but enthusiasm by companies when they speak of the graduates...

Dorm life in Helser

by soulgrind1 , Jul 09 '00
Pros: close to everything, not too many stairs to walk up
Cons: small rooms
Wow, am I a junior already? It seems like yesterday when I was a freshman living at Richey house in Helser hall. In that first year of college I had many memorable experiences at Helser.

Helser hall is located right next to Friley hall....

Towers Living

by amg7613 , May 30 '02
Pros: everything is there for you in one building, ample parking
Cons: they are old, have no air conditioning, far away from campus
I lived in Wilson, one of the four towers that makes up TRA (Towers Residence Association) at Iowa State. Towers, in general, has a reputation on campus for being "crappy," besides the fact that they are far away from campus. However, Wilson had...

by munchkin , Jul 28 '01
Pros: in-state tuition, walking campus, beautiful campus, Ames is wonderful....
Cons: advising is poor, classes are overcrowded, read for more.....
I recently graduated from Iowa State University, in Ames, IA, with a B.S. in Management Information Systems. I chose ISU because I originally wanted to be an engineer, and their engineering program is fantastic, and the tuition was very inexpensive....

All Around a Good Choice

by vhfan67 , Aug 24 '01
Pros: Excellent Engineering College Beautiful campus Nice location
Cons: winter weather greedy landlords
I graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in computer engineering in 1998. First, I will comment on the town and environment, secondly on the academic nature of Iowa State, and lastly on some drawbacks.

Ames, Iowa could be the...

Not vegetarian friendly

by digital_boy , Jul 05 '00
Pros: Usually something edible
Cons: A lot of times its all garbage.
ISU's food service is not a friendly place if you are a vegetarian. I've seen food service list things as vegetarian which I know for a fact aren't!!! I'm sure many of you don't care and think I should lighten up, but this is how I've chosen to live my...

A Place to learn and Feel comfortable

by Magick1 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jan 24 '00
Pros: Wonderful School, Great People, Terrific Community
Cons: Quiet, laid back, some people don't like that
This is one terrific university. A lot of people think twice about an Iowa school because it's in Iowa.

That is one of the most powerful aspects. Iowa is a wonderful place. You can be who you are without a lot of "judging" from...

Well, it's food isn't it?

by Magick1 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jan 24 '00
Pros: Choices, Variety, Theme Dinners
Cons: Some choices made you wonder what they were, some choices you wished you could take back
I have to say, food service is a wonderful feature. You can pick and choose, and you have many, many varieties.

Although, most items you can recognize, there are a few items that still make me wonder where they came up with that name?...

Go Cyclones!

by AbbyT , May 26 '00
Pros: campus, education, people
Cons: crows
Iowa State University is an excellent college. I am just getting done with one year from there and it has been a great time. Not only did I receive a good education, but there were plenty of other fun events going on too. Pre-college jitters lasted for a...

Quality Education in Small Town Atmosphere

by abbynormal10 , Feb 03 '00
Pros: Beautiful campus, excellent value, friendly atmosphere
Cons: small town living, lack of jobs
I'm a graduate of Iowa State University, so I speak with some authority on this university. ISU is nestled in the middle of Ames, Iowa, a small town in the middle of the state. Farm country. However, that is not a negative aspect. The crime rate is...

great opportunities

by sofarsogood , Oct 20 '00
Pros: great university in a small town
Cons: still has a lot of students on campus
I attended Iowa State University for the second half of my college education, majoring in Chemistry. The program that I was part of was small, but absolutely first rate. Iowa State University is a large on-campus style University. The buildings are...

Lyon is a great dorm

by digital_boy , Jul 05 '00
Pros: great people, nice building, convenient location
Cons: food service is in a different building
I've lived in Harwood house for a year and a half now. Harwood is in Lyon hall in old RCA. It is conveniently located next to campus, you do have to walk to another building for food service, but its not that far away. Harwood is an honors floor and it...

ISU - The All-Around Package

by ejpint , May 18 '02
Pros: GREAT school
Cons: None
I went to ISU from August of 1997-December of 2001.

Iowa State...ever been to prison?

by Eric_Fietz , Jul 05 '00
Pros: Education, you get to meet a lot of nerdy foreign people
Cons: Read Pros
Iowa State is a great school.....academically. For those of you who are incoming freshmen, I would really suggest that you look away from your parents pressure to 'find the smartest school for you.' Remember that you will be spending the next 4-5 years...
