"Street style" headphones for those on a budget... like me

by gerper Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jul 09 '01
Pros: Great sound for the price, good fit.
Cons: Wearing these for an extended period of time can be a bit painful.
After picking up a Sony Walkman CD player a few weeks ago (http://gerper.epinions.com/content_29228240516/tk_~CB005.1.9), I decided it was time to upgrade the “el cheapo”, pre-packaged headphones that came with the unit. Keep in mind that in my review of...

I Like the Look, But There Are Better Headphones Out There...

by tkd_grant Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 25 '03
Pros: The look, lightweight, flexibility, sound is good, price is reasonable
Cons: They have a tendency to irritate my ears - uncomfortable.
These Sony MDR G52LP headphones really seem to be “in” when it comes to headphones these days. Walking around my high school, just about everyone I see using a CD player use these headphones, or the same style at least. I actually got my ...

Looks like Sony did it again....

by OhNubilousOne , Dec 11 '00
Pros: Excellent sound quality, low price, innovative design
Cons: Whether or not the headphones are comfortable depend on the size of your....head.
Sony products always have a strange way of captivating me. Whether it’s the electric blue casing of the MZR-90 minidisc player/recorder or the now-trademark black silhouette of the Playstation 2, Sony’s products have always been designed for both form...

$20 headphones a deal!

by deftdrummer , Nov 12 '04
Pros: sleek design, super cheap price, excellent sound
Cons: cord a little short, very painful at 1+ hours of listening
I constantly listen to music and it seems I am never able to find the one pair of headphones that are both A) durable and B) good sounding. After I broke my last pair of $40 koss isolation headphones i figured it was once again time to pick out a set ...

Sony's popular wraparound headphones- im sold!

by Wisky Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 14 '02
Pros: Comfortable, Decent Sound when on low volume,
Cons: could be uncomfortable for some people, bass on high volume is distorted- a lil pricey.
The Sony MDR-G52LP, more commonly known as the wrap around headphones. The price for these are actually rather steep- $25 - $30. What I will tell you is if it is worth that high price, and if they're for you.

The "sound quality"...

No pain, no gain

by Nutsycuckoo , Apr 03 '02
Pros: Bottom line - they look cool.
Cons: These babies HURT with cartilage piercings and glasses.
I'm a college student at a large, foresty university - so large, that it can take incredible amounts of time to walk to class. I decided to invest in these headphones after thinking that a little bit of comfort when power-walking across campus would be...

Stylin', no mess, earmuffs?

by kornell_911 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jan 01 '00
Pros: pretty good sound, decent bass, chic, sexy,
Cons: tight on the head, not good for long rides, high volume not good
No these things aren't earmuffs. The Sony MDR-G52LPs are the latest in the chic headphones that are hitting the US. I saw these headphones a couple years back in Japan and thought they were pretty phat, stylin', and chic.
I bought them and...

There's a reason no one's designed headphones like this before

by Andyman Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jan 31 '02
Pros: Light, sound good, durable construction
Cons: VERY uncomfortable on the ears
At first, I loved these headphones. They were slick and elegant, offered surprisingly full sound. They clung to my ears and closed out surrounding noise. And the rear-bar didn't muss up my winning hairdo.

The first day I wore them, I thought...

They don't really touch your head, so are they really headphones?

by edgeman , Nov 26 '01
Pros: Looks cool, cord's not too long, not too expensive
Cons: Sound could be better, can get uncomfortable after a while
These non-head headphones were purchased by me because I wore out my pair of Jenson's and was hoping that Sony could make a better product to replace them. I went straight for the Sony's because I new they made good stuff. I thought about getting a...

A great pair of headphones

by im_not_crazy , Feb 18 '00
Pros: Great sound and Comfort
Cons: None
These headphones are the best pair I have ever bought. I have a bad habit of breaking any pair of headphones I get with in two weeks of buying them. I have had these of almost a year and they are still in good working condition and sound great. They also...

Make a fashion statement....but not much else.

by hyprxtension , May 16 '00
Pros: Single entry cord, Looks fashionable
Cons: Behind the neck design uncomfortable, Horrible Sound and Comfort
I could tell Sony had their sights set on the "fashionable" crowd when they designed this product. Being a headphone aficionado, I also like to test new headphones and, if I don't like them, return them. To make a long story short, these...

Looks good, sounds eh...

by dmtalon , Feb 16 '01
Pros: stylish looks
Cons: non adjustable
Using this for my MP3 player.

I bought the above headphones, the Sony MDRW20G's (sport) headphones and ended up keeping the Koss "The Plug" model. See my reviews on the other two.

Since you can't really *try on* head phones I tried...

Sony MDR-G51: Not As Good As It Could Be!

by LetItRut Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Apr 21 '01
Pros: Single-sided cord, cool looks, won't fall off your head
Cons: Poor sound reproduction, interferes with eyeglass/sunglass wear and sleep
This is a review of the first-generation Sony MDR-G51 Street Style headphones, which is the direct ancestor of the virtually identical MDR-G52LP.

I had purchased this pair of headphones from Sears during a sale, and at first I was...

OUCH! Not comfy.

by mr_chupon99 , Dec 30 '00
Pros: Good portable headphone, soundwise.
Cons: Bad conflicting design.
Someone reviewed this product commenting on how his "irregularly sized ears" made it painful to wear. That's not the only problem.

I got a pair of these with the Sports Discman D-SJ01. This was why I returned it. Sony apparently...
