Great Player for the First-Time Buyer

by kd34 , Feb 20 '02
Pros: It's Minidisc, Affordable, High Quality Sound In Your Palm
Cons: No Backlight, Noisy Operation, Lack of Accessories and Premastered MD's
If you've decided that you're interested in minidisc technology, and you've never owned a portable, this is the one you want. It will do everything you want your first player to do at almost half the cost of the newer models.

With this player,...

Excellent unit with a few glitches

by sonic2000gr , Apr 30 '01
Pros: Lightweight, stylish, excellent sound
Cons: A little low on volume
This my second portable minidisc. I also own a MZ-R35 that still works well - although it has played a lot of disks. Since MZ-R35 is not exactly portable (by todays portability standards) I decided to buy this unit. I also own a minidisc deck where I...

Pretty damn good MD player

by omega5556 , Jul 14 '01
Pros: Portability, sound quality, ease of recording, battery life
Cons: USB link not too great, can save some money with the R-70
I used to own the R-90 until I got mugged for it =T. So instead of going out and buying a new player, I decided to wait for the new generation of MD players. My friend had bought himself an R-70. It was pretty nice. Compact and solid. I thought I'd wait...

A MD Player for the Rest of us!

by killerinstinct , Jul 26 '00
Pros: Small, Easy to use, sturdy, relatively inexpensive
Cons: Only has one AA slot, remote leaves a lot to be desired
Well, Sony is still pumping out new MD products by the month, and the R70 has been around for almost a year now--more than enough time for any md product to establish itself in the community.

While MP3 players are the new music craze, it is...

Almost perfect...

by xii , Nov 12 '00
Pros: Loaded with features, light and compact, dual headphone jacks, long battery life, record from a microphone
Cons: Noisy motor, no LCD on remote, no backlit LCD screen, could be louder
I began my search for a new MD player with several thoughts in mind. First of all, I needed something that played AND recorded MDs. Secondly, I desired something light and compact that also had an exceptionally long battery life. Third, I've got...

Minidisc. Excelent Choice.

by RedLazarus , Dec 08 '00
Pros: Customizable Minidiscs, Small, Easy
Cons: Slow between tracks, records in real time
After trying MP3 players, CD players, and MP3CD players, I decided that perhaps my music answer lie with the quiet power of Minidisc. Minidisc offered the capacity of CD players, but the ability to erase and rewrite tracks, like a Minidisc. That plus...

Who needs an mp3 player?

by alfrankenstein , Aug 09 '00
Pros: Tiny, VERY portable, It's digital! Records a wide variety of media, each minidisc can be written/rewritten an infinite number of times, unbelievable battery life.
Cons: Takes a long time to record music to minidisc, not practical to title minidiscs, noticable operating noise, no analog cable included.
My folks flat out shocked me when they gave me the Sony MZ-R70 Minidisc player/recorder for my eighteenth birthday. I had no idea what a great device it was; a toy that I never knew I needed!

My parents later explained to me that they were...

Cheaper alternative to R90

by seffy , Dec 17 '00
Pros: Cheap but still extremely small, looks cool
Cons: Mechanical noise when using AC adapter
Since I got this lovely thing last friday, I've spent all my time using it. Being a music lover, it was a natural choice as my CD-player was getting old and wasn't very portable at all.

MP3 players was out of the question because of the small...

Cd's are for wimps.

by Reklats , Oct 19 '00
Pros: Better than mp3 or cd players!
Cons: Bigger than it looks in the picture.
I got the mz-r70 so that I could listen to some of my 1000+ mp3's away from home. I was not dissapointed. The mz-r70 is pretty small ***not really small, there is a bulge that you can't see in the deceptive picture probably included with this review....

Sony Minidisc MZ-R70 -- Its music to my ears!

by aussie-george , Aug 21 '01
Pros: Easy to use. Lightweight. 40 seconds antiskip. Digital USB Link.
Cons: Track and Disk naming painstakingly slow and tedious. Short headphone cable.
The Sony MZ-R70 is a good unit. I only bought it recently, and it only took one read of the instruction manual to learn how to drive the more complex functions, that I couldn't work out just by looking at it. The simple features (Play, Pause, Next,...

Sony MZ-R70PC...Awesome!!!

by muls , Feb 23 '01
Pros: Small size, great sound and portability, links to PC to record mp3's
Cons: supplied headphones are not good quality...no backlight on unit...labeling can be tedious
I had been looking to get an mp3 player for some time, when a friend pointed me in the direction of the minidisc. After comparing the two formats, I made the decision to go with the minidisc.

What a decision! It couldn't be better. The R70...

MZ-G750PC vs. MZ-R700 ...decisions...decisions...

by monky213 , Aug 11 '01
Pros: Price, uses a single "AA" battery, MDLP mode, and G-Shock protection
Cons: The headphones are really cheap!
This is for MZ-R700, identical to the MZ-G750PC except the G750 has an AM/FM tuner built into the remote and comes with the PC link kit. For the price the MZ-R700 is the way to go, you'll save at least $50, but if AM/FM is high on your list, get the...

Great sound but limited convenience

by cesareborgia , Oct 08 '01
Pros: Small size, cheap to add capacity, great megabass sound
Cons: Slow to transfer files, slow to scan forward & backward, low maximum volume
I bought the Sony MD MZ-700DPC because it was small, looked great, and seemed to offer some real advantages over my Rio 800 portable MP3 player: (1) the MD player could record 5 hrs on one minidisc, as opposed to 1 hr of decent quality sound on my 64mb...
